The Germans have a festival on December 5th where they tell kids that if they are bad a demon comes, puts them in a sack and beats them with reeds if they are naughty. Good for keeping the rugrats in line. Unless your kid has a BDSM kink.
Anyways, up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Talk amongst your selves.
Buddy needs to get his fuzzy rump inside and quit worrying Mom.
Weather guessers say Wednesday is the only day in the next 10 with only a single-digit chance of rain. We can use it, but I dunno, couldn’t we spread it out a bit more?
Update: little jerk was inside the whole time, apparently under the bed or somewhere else I had been unable to find him without too much risk of disturbing DH.
its not just the germans that have the Krampus …
Switzerland and Austria, have it too - makes me think if this is more of an alpine type of thing than a german type of thing ???
any northern-germans care to comment if the Krampus is a thing up there as well?
ohh … btw … you cannot talk about the Krampus without talking about the Nikolaus … they are the good-and-bad, the ying-and-yang, the stick-and-carrot of the same thing
Well, gee, 'tis the season…
This is going to be an interesting week - I plan to spend Mon-Thurs at Daughter’s, watching the grandspawns to keep them away from their plague-ridden father. Which means I need to leave here about 6:30 and with luck, I’ll be home by 5. Good times… Stoopit plague. And I need to remind Daughter that she needs to make other arrangements for Firday, since we’ll be headed to the ocean for a couple of days.
Took a snort of Nyquil last night and slept pretty much thru. The sore throat is mostly gone (mostly) and the worst I’m dealing with now is a drippy nose and occasional cough. Temps in the 20s right now - but I’ve got a good heater in the car and it should get the vehicle toasty before I go a mile or so.
That’ll be my day. Being beaten in a sack almost sounds like a better alternative.
Onward! Happy Moanday!!
Good morning everyone! 55F here and s’posed to be near 80 this afternoon.
My sick dog is getting much better. A visit to the vet and some meds and he’s on the mend. Last night he brought me his ball, wanting to play. Caused a bit 'o dust in the air (if you get my drift) but I played fetch with him until he tired of it.
Continuing the wrecked truck saga from last week. Real progress is being made, as one of the insurance people sent me a text saying that there’s been no progress but maybe someone else at her company will contact me next week. And that’s all that anyone’s done in several days. I guess they’re having the pre-meeting planning meeting to determine the seating for the meeting to pick a date on the schedule for a possible meeting in the future. The actual meeting to make an actual decision (totalled or not) is far too weighty to just rush into, as we all know. Just sitting down with the principals and making a decision is not done in the corporate world of today. There’s a process, donch’a know?
I’m slowly moving from nice and cooperative to nasty and mean. I’m going today for the MRI to determine how much spine/cervical damage was done (recommended by my family doc), and then to the ophthalmologist to recheck the retina problems in my eye (increase in floaters, etc.). After a few more days of zero progress I will sit across the desk from someone with a lot of equal height books on his shelves, and make these delays phenomenally expensive for all involved. I’m tired, retired, have lots of time, getting pissed, and need a new hobby anyway. The clock’s ticking, they just don’t know it yet.
Daughter made an ill-advised decision (we objected due to school issues) to attend an expensive destination wedding with BF. During the weekend had nasty breakup with said BF, and is requesting $$ help to return on different plane, uber etc. so they don’t have contact. My answer was to send a link to Three Dog Night’s Momma Told me Not to Come, and that adults deal with their own decisions – good or bad. Use your own money to find your own way back, I ain’t helping. My answer was overridden and mizPullin dealt with it a little more gently. But held the “we ain’t paying” line.
Wow, I’m getting seriously grumpy. I’m gonna go play with my dog some more.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 34 degrees and very white and icy outside. It snowed for most of the day yesterday, with a brief interlude of sleet which turned back into snowfall. It’s supposed to warm up to about 39 degrees, and we might see a small rain shower much later in the day.
There isn’t any snow in the forecast, but then again, we weren’t supposed to see as much as we saw yesterday. I am so, so grateful I didn’t have to travel to Wenatchee yesterday. As it turns out, there was a 15-car pile-up on the route I most likely would have taken. Interstate 90 was closed from North Bend through Easton. That’s 35 miles.
Today should have been an in-office day, but I’m not going to travel on these icy roads. I’ll go tomorrow or the next day.
FCM, I hope you and FCD have a “normal” day. I know you’re traveling to the daughter’s place to babysit, but I hope there are no in-law problems.
My mother is from Bavaria, but I don’t remember her using Krampus to beat us into submission. We did Saint Nicklaus day, though. We had little red boots we put out for Niklaus to put treats inside, and we must have been good because we always got treats. St. Nicholas Day is tomorrow. I lived in Germany around Nuremberg for about three years, and I have a vague memory of seeing something like Krampus when I visited my Oma in Dollnstein around Christmas time. Both Krampus and St Niklaus were making the rounds to all the houses and if you were good, you got a treat. I got a treat!
Today will be filled with lots of hassles and probably some frustration. I’m trying to have a more positive outlook, but I saw my email…
Well on with the day and more coffee. I hope you all have a terrific day!
Edited: pullin, looks like we cross-posted. I find the words “state attorney general” help a lot. I had dealings with an insurance company (not mine, the dummy who hit me) that was pulling the same crap. They changed their tune THAT DAY. I hope daughter finds/found her way home. There’s always Greyhound.
Mornin’, all, and a good week of doing whatever it is you do. We’ll start the week with bagels for breakfast (salmon cream cheese, bacon, tomato), then exercise at 9:30 with other geezers.
I made Linzer cookies for the first time yesterday. I used Trappist seedless raspberry jam for the filling. For my money, it’s the best jam on the market. Give it a try.
Mornin’ errybody! I’m about to head out the door to work at my buddy’s shop. He’s making an exhibit that includes a fake rock and roll stage, so wants to do the testing of electrics at his place. It’ll be weird working in someone else’s place, but ya gotta what ya gotta do.
Stay safe, y’all!
Yay for LittleDog’s bouncing back yank. Sorry for the accident woes. The state AG’s office may well be a good option. I hope that your daughter figures out her exit strategy soon.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to get purtified for my 0930 dermatologist appointment. The only other thing on the agenda today is to pick up prescriptions on the way home.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until seven-thirty this mornin’. 'Tis 56 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 71 and cloudy for the day. No big plans for the day, so the usual sloth and general overall uselessness are in store. Sup shall be chikin 'n dumplin’s and some sort of vegetative matter, possibly peas 'n carrots.
Krampus? I ain’t afraid of no stinkin’ Krampus! What’s up with the apples? Does an apple a day keep the Krampus away?
Yanker some folks just do not seem to understand it is not a good idea to piss off old people. We are retired, we have the time, and are generally in a bad mood most of the time. I say sic ‘em. Also, like Taters said, toss around State Attorney General a few times. Hope daughter got back safe and sound and good on y’all for not forkin’ over the cash. She got there, so she can get back from there.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 6c/43f with no predicted change all day, and it’s cloudy. That looks pretty accurate from where I’m sitting! Weather app says “It’s the perfect weather to clean your house. If you have a llama, it’s also a good day to brush your fucking llama”. Weather app does not know me very well, there’s never a perfect day for domestic drudgery
We don’t celebrate Krampus in the UK, but I think it’s an excellent idea! I have seen a few very good Krampus films over the years though, I would totally threaten kids with it if I had any.
Pulley yay for doggy getting better! It’s so good when you have been so worried about them, and you can see the improvement. Also, have fun with the insurance people, they do like to mess around doing very little for the longest time.
Taters very wise decision not to travel in the snow and ice, there are too many idiots out there who think it’s fine to speed along without thinking of the consequences should they misjudge the conditions. Besides, I suspect a day at home will be good for your head at the moment.
VanGo sounds like a fun job to be doing!
I had a busy weekend so didn’t really catch up with the end of last week’s MMP. Today I’m in the campus office (Krampus office, anyone?) after an irksome journey here. There are three trains I could have caught from my home station to Big City, they were all cancelled due to shortages of train crews, and of course the only train running was a short one, and packed. Luckily it was on time so I still made the connection at Big City station to get to campus.
First job of the day was booking my last two days of leave for this year. We are allowed to carry over 5 days to next year and I have 7 days owing so I need to take two days before the end of next week when the uni closes for the hexmas break. Trouble is, we are short-staffed and other people already have holiday booked…so we did a bit of shuffling on the rota and I get Tuesday/Wednesday off next week, and will work at home on Thursday/Friday due to train strikes and suchlike. So I only have three more days on campus this year. Hurrah!
Mornin’ everyone. Apologies for my absence over the weekend, I had other things to take care of.
It’s been exactly 2 months since one of my online friends cut herself (5 October 2022). I miss her dearly…
On the bright side, I got to go to my sister’s choir concert on Saturday. She’s really talented.
Morning all. Woke up to rain, it is still raining, and the forecast is more rain with some thundershowers, so a good day to stay in…but this is also shoppin-n=sammich day and you know, tradition! Swim and Sauna are still up in the air, however.
Been putting off some e-mails out of sheer laziness, need to send them out today.
Well, OK, but don’t let it happen again…
Forgive me for being dense; do you mean she cut off her online contacts or has passed on? Sorry either way.
Boo fae, sounds like travel in Merry Olde England isn’t quite as merry as before. Glad you only have to bear it a few more days this year.
pulley, glad little dog is doing better; now sic’em on that insurance company! And I guess I am a bad person, your response to Daughter made me laugh.
FCM, hang in there and don’t forget your tablet.
Seanette, sounds like Buddy has you almost fully trained…
OK, onward with the week. All y’all take care.
Cut as in self-harm. A cut to the wrist. She presumably cut a vein. She hasn’t passed on though; she’s most likely in rehabilitation. Still, I miss her dearly…
Been at Daughter’s place about 3 hours. I folded the laundry she’d left in the dryer, and the second wash load is sloshing. Tobias is napping. The cats are driving me crazy. So, pretty typical Moanday.
Hope she gets the help she requires.
As do I.
How charming.
Yeesh. Been irking for over an hour, and all I’ve done is reply ‘Thank you’ to a bunch of emails. (OK, I did investigate two things for Big Credit Reporting Agency.) I mean, you take two weeks off during the ostensibly slow(er) time of the month, and you come back to an exploding inbox! I have to go south tomorrow (road conditions permitting), so that will cut into my irk time. And our Christmas party is Friday, so I’ll ony have a half day at best.
