Well I didn’t think it would be McCain who would make me cry.
Oh Happy Day!
I’m so happy that I have tears of happiness.
The next sppech may have ya going
He did good, maybe even brought a little of the base to the blue side.
An historic moment. Congrats.
Yes it is.
I can’t be the only one who’s thinking that Americans realized that the Bush administration has thoroughly trashed America, and just reflexively hired a black guy to clean up the mess.
I said this, and cried, too.

I can’t imagine what this must mean for the black community. What a wonderful result.
I am so proud of us-- US
I told my son- remember tonight. This is history. This is when everything changed.
Am I going to hell for laughing at this?
Please pardon my re-post from the other thread, it is perhaps more suitable here:
“The USA can always be counted upon to do the right thing … after exhausting all other alternatives” - Winston Churchill
I have hope in my heart for the world and for the USA for the first time in 5 years. I feel like I did late last year when my own people finally saw sense and terminated John Howard’s toxic administration.
I am so glad. Well done America; you have every right to feel nervous about what you’ve just done, but also every right to feel hopeful and uplifted. This is a brave step out of the shadows and the first stride on a journey back to moral leadership of the free world. Americans have been famous for their can-do attitude for a long time, but now you must and will turn from each person striving to enrich themselves alone, to each person striving to enrich their nation and their world. You can tackle your public health, public education, climate change, defense, and other serious issues, in just the way you tackled issues such as nazism, fascist communism, and now racism.
I unreservedly congratulate you on the path you have chosen. No matter how things turn out over the next 8 years, you have done a courageous, forward-looking, outward-looking, and above all right thing. Long live America.
My 83-yr-old mom, who has a t-shirt that says “I’m an Obama Grandmama”, just called me and said, “We won!”. She voted republican every year 'til 1992, then she started voting democrat.
Thank you, Askance, that was really beautiful.
This registered Republican just popped a cork and poured for 10 or so Democrat friends sitting in my house.
Well done Dems, and good luck President Elect Obama.
Thanks.
We’re both people of faith. We disagree about a lot of things. You’ll be one who will criticize Obama when he makes a mistake, which is fine.
Still, electing a Black president is a great thing for the United States. This country has had ugly battles over race.
I voted for Obama because in January, I read his books. Obama seemed to be one of the most intelligent men I’ve ever seen running for president. Bill Clinton is a very intelligent man, but he doesn’t seem to have the morals of Obama.
Obama might make some policy decisions which are wrong, but he won’t be caught with his zipper down.
People are in the streets in Detroit like a World Series game. Screaming and hollering and no trouble.
Wow, McCain’s concession speech was very, very, moving. If he could have spoken like that during the campagin, it would have been much closer!
But i’m an Obama guy, so ya-hoo! It’s a very good night. Almost midnite here on the east coast, but i’m not sleeping until I hear him speak.
Who would have thought our first black president would have a name like Obama?? gotta love this country. Were not perfect, but we do continue to amaze!
What about us not-so-moderate conservatives?
Actually, I’ll answer that - there will be many times an Obama initiative will need to be opposed - and I’ll have no problem doing that. I fully expect to agree with him on a few issues as well.
I will attempt at all times to remember that he is President Obama, and state whatever opposition I have keeping that in mind.
I really can’t believe it, have to keep asking if it is real. Seems to be. I am crying,: really never thought I would see this day. Gotta go see Barack up in Chicago on the TV…
I cannot believe this good blessed day !!!
FriarTed, though I disagree with him often, is certainly a class act and IMHO an addition to the board.
Thanks FT!
