You go, Joy!: Jaime Pressley gets her Emmy

And very well-deserved, too. She’s one of the best of the cast of My Name is Earl, which is saying a lot, because they’re all terrific. I wonder if they’ll work in a reference to her win sometime on the show… maybe show the trophy on a shelf in her and Darnell’s trailer?

I don’t see another Emmys result thread, so I might as well pipe in that not only was I thrilled for Pressley (though MNiE deserved more nods overall), but I’m also glad for Terry O’Quinn, 30 Rock, and Ricky Gervais (though it would’ve been nice to see Alec Baldwin win). I can’t even begrudge Tony Bennett for winning for simply being a Legend (Stewart/Colbert will probably consistently split that vote) because he seems like a genuine guy. Probably the biggest surprise was Spader–he certainly deserved it the first year he won for playing Alan Shore, but the show has gone downhill and there were other more deserving candidates. Still, overall, a pretty good round-up (allowing for the fact there were already serious omissions amongst the nominees).

I haven’t seen MNIE at all, but I just had to ask…before this show came on, did anyone ever suspect that she’d even be nominated for an Emmy? I mean, just based on her resume? I’m not being snotty, it just seems like an alternate-universe thingy upon first read, like Uwe Boll having directed Schindler’s List. Or am I misjudging her?

“I will not jump for Joy”.

I don’t think I know of anything else she’s done, but she cracks me up on Earl. Good for her!

Did The Office win anything? I think it’s a way funnier show.

Ricky Gervais deserves an award of some kind–which season of Extras did he win for? The first season was great, the second…meh. To me, it was his attempt to do “Ricky does Curb Your Enthusiasm”.

Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series: Greg Daniels, “Gay Witch Hunt” episode
Outstanding Single-Camera Editing For A Comedy Series: David Rogers and Dean Holland, “The Job” episode (awarded at Creative Arts Ceremony, September 8)

The 2007 Emmy Awards are for achievements in the 2006-2007 TV season. Therefore, Mr. Gervais’s Emmy was for the second season of Extras.

Also, since Gervais was not there to get his Emmy, the presenters Stephen Cobert and Jon Stewart “gave” it to Steve Carrell.

Here’s the clip. They were lucky this happened, because the “bit” that Stewart & Colbert did leading up to the award really stunk.
