SWMBO and I went to the movies recently. A promo for this came on. We nearly died laughing.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter
I swear, Lincoln’s zombie needs to rise, find an ax and start some serious head-chopping.

If the film isn’t your thing, perhaps you’d enjoy the book?
The Lincoln presidential museum even screened the trailer and some scenes for an audience. I think they offer the book for sale as well in the gift shop?
I’d heard of this film, but yeah, I was nevertheless pretty baffled by its trailer shown prior to Cabin in the Woods. (Not entirely sure that this is the trailer I saw, but close enough.) Looks like they’re playing it straight — or at least as “straight” as an action film in the Blade/Matrix/Underworld mold could be. I would’ve expected more outright camp.
Then again, I suppose the premise is such that the jokes write themselves; best not be too blatant about it. My hopes aren’t high but I’ll see it if the reviews aren’t abysmal.
The book, at least, is actually a halfway decent biography.
And you just wrote the sequel!
You think Lincoln as a vampire hunter is silly…
(I love that movie to (un)death. It is the yardstick all other ‘<Famous Person>, Vampire Hunter’ movies will always be measured.)
At the Anaheim Comic Con I saw the presentation on this. The author of the book did a lot of research so he’d have a good background on Lincoln’s history to draw from to create the fictional version for the story. It looks fun. It’s the same director as “Nightwatch” so if you like stylized action this should be up your alley.
…an axe… bodies spraying blood…
Axe body spray! Of course!
I participated in a survey in a theater lobby where I was shown the trailer. I was asked the following questions (and my answers)
What do you think this movie is about? (Abraham Lincoln fights vampires)
What would you tell friends about this movie? (It has Lincoln fighting vampires)
Who would this movie appeal to? (People who want to see Lincoln fight vampires)
What about this movie are you most looking forward to? (Seeing Lincoln fight vampires)
I liked the book, although it did bog down a bit in the middle for me. I probably won’t go see it in the theater, but I will try to catch it on my On Demand.
Great book! Thanks for reminding me that the movie is coming out soon.
I saw the trailer last week and I immediately thought, “Oh, so this is the Lincoln/Vampire movie…cool!” (I’m pretty sure I saw a thread here about the book) The audience reaction to the title reveal at the end of the trailer was remarkable–lots of people went “WTF!!!”, many laughed out loud, and it set the whole place abuzz.
Stylized action? More like incomprehensible action - this director is the Russian Michael Bay, only worse. Nightwatch was awful. Yech.
The book at least was fun, until the ending. Really?
I don’t plan on reading the book so would you, or anyone, please spoiler it for me.
This made me laugh more than it probably should have.
I’m especially looking forward to seeing Lincoln’s drum solo.
I disagree. I saw Night Watch in the theater and had a grand old good time. It was good, and fun, to me, and if nothing else, it had the very best subtitles I’ve ever seen in my life, extremely inventive and almost another character. I haven’t seen the DVD so I don’t know if they were kept the same or converted to normal-looking subtitles.
I haven’t read the book. I’m seeing this movie strictly for the director, because of Night Watch. I’ll probably read the book after seeing the movie.
And PLEASE, please don’t anyone who’s read the book spoil the movie. Go start a book thread.
Edit to add, sciurophobic, I laughed while reading your post too. Funny!
There’s been a meme going around lately about young people being shocked to discover that Titanic was based on a real ship that sunk, and wasn’t just made up for the film. I wonder if this movie will generate a similar reaction, where young people are shocked to discover that Abraham Lincoln was in fact a real person. Who may have fought vampires.
PERSON BEHIND ME IN THEATER: What the hell?
ME: This is going to be the greatest movie ever.
