Since the likelyhood that either one of them would agree, even under pressure, to be a designated driver = 0, I would make a few suggestions:

1. Pay for a taxi yourself and write it off to the cost of the party.
2. Have El Hubbo arrange for someone else, a saint if he knows one, to provide transportation for them.
3. Call the police the moment they head for the car. Give the dispatcher vehicle type, color, plate number and direction of travel. Let the rest take care of itself.

Note that if they have been drinking at your house, you can be liable for damage they do when driving. I’m with you on the “I won’t be able to forgive myself” part, but this is a legal question as well. If they drink at your party and drive, and kill someone, you can be held legally responsible.

Sounds good to me. Totally agree about the designated driver stuff. You cannot make them do anything, protect you and yours.

Oh yeah, I’d probably keep it to myself about calling the police. If the police get them and they find out you called…well when they sober up they will be upset.
