You haven’t changed a bit – a post-reunion MMP

spats, I’m doing the MMP tomorrow night. Because if I waited until I got up on Monday, you’d start without me and be on page 2 already. I’ve taken lots of pictures, so it will be a very** colorful** MMP.

I’ve decided that donating blood is a Bad Idea. I now have a consistent pattern of donating blood and feeling like crap for several weeks afterwards. Combined with the reaction I have immediately after donating, and I think they’ll have to live without my bi-monthly pint of O+.

I’m almost done with the final strap for my bag. Hurray! It looks pretty good right now, I hope it felts ok.

Good afternoon everyone.

I’ve been up since around 8:00 am or so, but had to caffinate myself, read the paper, do the crosswords, do some mapquesting, take a shower and start some laundry. Not really strenous stuff, but it took time.

Hubby is out getting his overdue license tabs. They expired in December! Hah! He just called, he had to wait in line forever for emissions testing, got down to the licensure place, and discovered they closed at noon! So, he’s got to go on Monday after work now.

We both totally forgot about the tabs, and a friend pointed it out to us. I mean, really, do you spend tons of time starting at your back license plate? Me either.

Actually, we’re both usually pretty good about this, but this one got away from us. Oh well, he’ll just have to drive carefully is all.

Tonight is our wigs and wine party. We’re bringing two good bottles of Syrah along with us. It’ll be interesting to see what else is brought there. Good grief, I tried the wig on and it is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. I’ll have to try and remember to get a picture of Mr. Taters and I in these things. I looked ridiculous!

The drive is about 50 minutes one way, so one of us will have to be very careful about how much we imbibe. That’s a long drive and neither of us wants to get a DUI, or worse yet, hurt someone else or ourselves. I’m sure the hubby will end up being the designated driver because he’s not all that much into wine. He likes Syrah, which is why I’m bringing it. Still and all, he won’t drink much of it.

Off to cruise the Dope for a few.

Glad the cat scratch is getting better, kai. I haven’t been brave enough to look at pics yet.

Spats - your creativity is…ermmmmm…disturbing. Oh… and Jahdra is hosting the next MMP. Why? Were you volunteering for the first one in March? (On preview, I see Jahdra has stopped in with the answer also…)

We want wig pictures!!!

Love the job stories. I’ve been through several jobs with my employer, but how I started out there is the best story. I wasn’t eligible for any more support in grad school, so I finally faced up to the fact that I needed to get a real job. So I marched into Kelly Services on a Thursday, took a typing test, proved I could use MultiMate (Anyone out there remember MultiMate? Odd to consider that Microsoft Office used to have serious competition…), and was asked if I wanted a job the next day. The previous temp had stopped showing up and they desperately needed someone. The job description sounded REALLY REALLY REALLY boring, but I figured I had to start somewhere. Showed up early the next morning (a Friday the 13th, by the way), and have been there ever since. It’ll be 17 years in July, which really boggles the mind. And it’s never been boring.

Thanks for the kind thoughts about my friends. We’ve all been really stressed because of work the past year, so having health and family issues on top of that is…not good for any of us. (There’s a little group of us managers who are really close aned we tend to share a lot in both good and bad times…)

Heeee, heee, rosie. Great pics.

I had grits once a long time ago. They were meh, but who knows how well prepared they were. I suppose I should try them again sometime.

I was at Kinko’s till 12:20 a.m. or so, then got up early to do the agenda and meeting notes from last time. Stopped by at Kinko’s again around 8:30 this morning to make copies and then made it to our meeeting just in time. We had a lot of fun (it’s a very fun group) and the group gave me a beautiful terrarium as thanks for chairing (I’ll post a pic after a while; it’s very very nice).

Kinko’s is interesting late at night. There were a couple of guys talking to the employee at the desk, trying to get business cards for some sort of entertainment promotion business. I think they were having Kinko’s print them for them (rather than doing self-service copying, which is what I was doing). One of the guys wandered around a bit while he was waiting, kind of dancing to the music. At one point, one of John Mayer’s early hits came on (first sone on this album). He asked who it was and was surprised when I told him. I was inordinately proud of myself for knowing the artist. (Total fluke. My brother gave me the album well before it became popular.)

Guess I should go out and get some groceries. We’re supposed to get freezing rain tonight and I might not have an opportunity to go out for them tomorrow.

Back later…

I have a box full of clay stuff drying. I threw 4 mugs - I was trying to make a set, but none of them match, so they’ll just be random mugs. I also made 2 small closed forms that will become small lidded tea carafes. I’ll probably match each with a mug as a set, so a body could make 2 cups of tea at once, and the second would stay warm in the carafe. It’ll probably work with coffee, too.

I also cut the top off the big closed piece, and it’ll become a pitcher. I threw two spouts - not sure which one I’ll use. I also pulled a handle for the pitcher. Tomorrow, I should be able to assemble the spout and the handle as well as a knob on the pitcher lid.

Gotta build up inventory…

So, what should I have for supper??

FCM I say you should have bad Chinese for supper. Or pizza. Or trout almondine. See, now you have clear cut choices. I’m all helpful like that.

That was a good nap and etc. I just got myself all cleaned up for tonight cause in a little bit we’ll be headed over to hang for a while. What? We were told to come hang for a while before the others get there. We’re so wonderful the hosts wanted alone time with us. Well, who could blame 'em!

So, does anybody else think Spats is volunteering for the March 5th MMP? I say he did.

Supper was a mixed choice. **FCD ** had a couple of grilled hot dogs and I had a bowl of leftover veggie-beef soup.

Bad Chinese would have been a good choice except for having to get dressed and go there. Not that I’m nekkid - I’m just in grubby clay clothes. When I get out of these, I’ll be donning a fleece robe and slippers.

Sounded to me like **Spats ** volunteered. And I dare him to call me a liar!

Frozen fog pictures I forgot to post from the other day. .

Also, an obligatory picture of Marty and Cuervo keeping the Kid’s bed warm for her.

Shoot. I was going to volunteer for the March 5 MMP – I’ll be home with my new knee then and can properly horrify you all with everything that’s [del]been done to me[/del] happened. And I can provide gory pics and everything! Can I do it? Please, please, pretty please?

I’m on the very last row of the second chunk of my Garter Stitch Wrap. It’s just fabulous – I cannot wait to finish the whole thing. I can’t do that, however, until the last of my yarn arrives. I ordered it from The Knitter because of the free shipping – the place where I got my yarn originally was out of that dye lot, so I figured I’d save some $$ since I had to get a different dye lot anyway – but I ordered it on 2/14 and was told it would ship in 1 to 2 weeks, and it still hasn’t shipped. :frowning: And I just talked to them and they’re still waiting on the stupid manufacturer. :frowning: So here’s hoping I get the yarn in time – I’ll probably need it in another week, since I expect I’ll be doing a lot of knitting in my horspital down time!

Frozen fog is cool! And Cuervo is such a handsome boy!

Anything I would come up with for March 5 would be grossly[sub]pun intended[/sub] inferior to this. It’s all yours.

And I have to give props to rosie for reminding us that accessorizing is the key to fashion. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I’ve been productive. Surfed the Dope. Ate dinner. Napped. Watched Remington Steele (yes, I do tend to watch DVDs obsessively). Napped. Which is actually good. I was tired. Still tired, actually.

So, does this mean we have the March 12th MMP taken care of, Spats?

I guess I’ll try to get something done now.

Cool! Okay, I’ll take a notebook to the hospital with me so I can record the delightful time minute-by-minute. I can see it now:

10:31 p.m. - Fall asleep
10:33 p.m. - Vampires come to draw blood
11:15 p.m. - Fall asleep again
11:20 p.m. - Nurse comes to wake me up to take my sleeping pill (I swear on a stack of bibles, that happened to me once many years ago!)

Anyway, it should make the whole thing that much more of an adventure. Gory pictures and all! Oh boy!

I just scrubbed myself semi-raw with that nasty drying antimicrobial soap. Which I get to do again tomorrow. How do surgeons scrub their hands with that stuff for like half an hour and still have any skin left?

Have we been sharing “how I ended up in this job” stories? I’ve seen a few of them this week. Ok, my turn.
Right after graduation, I returned to my summer job with the Parks Department (I have stories about those years, maybe the next time I host) then in September, went to work for my dad at the Village Hall. I performed a number of different duties there, gaining office skills and enduing being treated porrly by dad lest the rest of the staff think he was giving me preferential treatment (it stopped when I called him on it, but  sheesh!)
Anyway, one day I had to run an errand for the village, take a package over to the cable company’s vp in charge of obtaining new territory, who happened to be a friend of dad’s. While I was there, he told me there was a new class of customer service reps starting up the following months, and would I like to meet with the HR person as long as I was in the building? Yeah, why not, thought I. That was September 1981. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Well, I survived another Saturday night. There is a special Hell for people who let their spawn run amok in a store 20 minutes before closing. I went on a beer run. I looked for real grits, but Kroger only has instant. Why can I get escargot, but not grits?

MBG, Cuervo sure has grown up. I remember his baby pics.

We played Jacksonville tonight and won 3-2. We’re still in first place. I was on the ice twice tonight - first to give a check to the Jacksonville Booster Club - one of their players was in a really bad car wreck a couple of weeks ago and we took up a collection to help with his medical bills. We raised $550 - not a whole lot, but every bit helps. Then I did the “Player of the Game” presentation after the game. Tonight was also my night to feed the visiting team - Mr. SCL made three pans of his wonderful lasagna and it is all gone. There was some left after J’ville got theirs - and who should appear but Connor and his roommates who took some home. I swear, those kids are always hungry. The visiting players are always so nice - they appreciate getting a hot meal after working their butts off. I even got a hug from Steve Zork. He gives nice hugs.

I am sick, and 4 of the cats are sick. This really bites - I have the cats on antibiotics but don’t have any for me. Not having insurance really bites.

Off to bath and bed.

Huh… job stories! I’m coming up on my 30th anniversary in June, and believe it or not, I’ve been with the same agency (though definitely not the same job!) all the time.

When I first came to the DC area in the summer of 1975, I was with a religious cult; in 1977, I left the cult–so the first thing I had to do was to find a “real” job. I went to DC employment services, where I was told to go take the govt. clerical test. I did, and was qualified as a GS-4 clerk-typist. Employment services sent me on a referral for a 6 month temp job, and the rest is history.

I created a profile on myspace.com the other day; my 19 yo son is on there, and I’m just keeping a bit of an eye on things going on with him (yes, he’s an adult, but there are some really crazy, nasty folks out there!). Anyway, I specified in my profile that I was in a “committed relationship” and was NOT looking for anything but friends. I’ve still gotten several messages from guys. I did get one today, though, from a musician, which is what myspace was originally created for - musicians to network on. LOL So I did appreciate that message!

One of the messages was from someone who has set up forums for the college I went to (Univ. of Delaware). Most of the folks posting on his forums are much younger than I, but just looking at and reading all the stuff about UDel brought back a flood of memories, some of which were long forgotten (or even buried … LOL). My sophmore year, I moved into the very first co-ed dorm - what a riot that was! I think I was on academic probation most of the year, unfortunately. Junior year, I moved to a newly built complex (Pencader, which I learned was recently demolished!); that year, they had -too- many rooms, and I ended up in a very large double (top floor, high ceilings) by myself. Senior year, first semester I moved back to main campus into an all-women dorm. LOL Yes, I ran the gamut during college!! I was also, by that time, working part-time in one of the dining halls and also selling concessions during home football games. Second semester Sr. year I moved off-campus … into the religious cult. Unfortunately, I did NOT get my degree (history) and instead moved to another city (Princeton NJ), still with the cult. I loved Princeton the town - it’s beautiful but the area is very expensive to live in. My friends from the womens dorm at UDel actually came to visit me there once!

Sorry to have rambled on … now you probably know more about me than I should have shared, but at least it’s somewhat interesting.

Gah, duplicate post! Sorry!

Sure, why not.

Up early agin on a Sunday, 'cept instead of church, it’s day 2 of fire school. I have a hell of a tale for later (gotta get moving) about a kid in the class. Bottom line: I Did A Good Deed.

So we have tales of surgery and good deeds comin’ up in the next few weeks. The most riveting MMPs ever, I bet.

I’m up and caffienating. Dinner was great last night. It was ham and all sorts of other nummy stuff instead of skettis. There was also some really good sangria. Really good. As in, after two glasses I hadda stay out of the room where it was good cause I coulda got dukrn easy off of it. I was good though. Anyways, it was a lot of food so we were stuffed! We left there about nineish, came home and crashed. Hence, I’m up now.

Happy Sunday Everybody!

Well, I was gonna try to do a flyer for my book talk project, but it may be a handout. The “brochure” instructions in my Word are not comprehensible to me, but then again, it’s early and I’m in nurse mode, not computer learning mode (I’m a limited model).

And I had strange dreams about the library (or A library) last night. I got all my books together for my presentation and put them on a cart–and someone stole my cart! I spent the rest of the dream looking for them. There were long lines in the library, which was also a travel center (?), with people lining up to check in for flights to UK. When they weren’t doing that, they were at the cappucino bar. Perhaps I had some mad flight of genius for the a Future Library…

Off to be a nurse. One family yesterday said I was terrific. Isn’t that nice? And then I heard them say that the food and the (crap reception despite cable) were aslo “terrific”, but what the hell, I’ll take it…
