You haven’t changed a bit – a post-reunion MMP

Ummmm… I was sorta one of the popular kids in high school. Well, I was! Course I was friends with all kinds of people but I was one of the popular kids. Just sayin’… [sub]don’t hurt me![/sub]

swampy, don’t worry - we’re not likely to hurt a delusional geezer such as you…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, that would just be really wrong. <snerk>

Just for FCM and Puggy:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll take things I have in common with rigs for $400 Alex.

"What are, Illinois, afternoon naps and making poultry for dinner?

'Cept mine’s duck. Which reminds me I better get to making that thing ready…

I laid down on the front room couch to read a book, and Cuervo came trotting down. He jumped on my chest to purr and drool on me for a minute, then we both settled down for an hour long nap.

And I think I’m going to rig my trash cans to explode. My garbage men come by every week, empty them and then engage in a Toss the Can contest. I went two doors down the block to get one of my cans, and it’s not even all that windy here today.

Grr.

And, in the truly sad news today, a 5th teenager died today from that car accident that we had here last weekend. Swell, all the funerals are done for the first four, we get a long weekend, ready to get on to things for the kids at the high school, and now this.

Yeah, yeah, I know it’s just the nicotine talking. However, I really think it has a lot to do with my plain ol’ bullheaded stubborness. Someone is MAKING do something, so now I just want to dig in my heels and show that I’M

What happened to Taters?? Did the Someone she was referring to come and get her??

Nothing happened. I accidently hit submit, was working on editing the post, then the husband called and then I couldn’t edit the post anymore.

So, anyway, to pick up where I left off. I’m trying to show I’m in charge by digging in my heels, not those who are making me quit. Totally stupid, I know.

So, the taxes are nearly done. I just need the info for my car to see if the standard state sales tax deduction is bigger than taxes and license I paid on the rig last spring. Also need to double check a couple of other things, then they’ll be complete.

So, have you noticed I start many of my sentences with “So,” a lot?! How annoying. I must stop that. Somebody whap me if they see me doing that too much again.

Yawn. I need a nap, too. It must be contagious. I had lunch with a friend today, and stopped by The Firm on the way back to the car to say hi. Somebody said, “I hear you’re happy now.” Oh, yeah, much happier now. Then I came home and did my final exit interview, so I’m all done with them now. I only have to deal with The Firm on a 3rd party basis now, as it should be.

I’m almost finished with my final swatch for Sunday, and then I have an inch or so to go on my sock before I start the toe shaping. But I think I’ll take a nap first.

Taters, looks like someone pricked you with the So-ing needle.

May I ask why this is, strictly out of curiosity? I’ve noticed there seems to be a trend of referring to adult females as “girls.” Is it simply that “guys” and “girls” are taking over for “men” and “women,” respectively?

I was going to ask how the socks are coming, Jahdra. I tried a sock one but failed miserably at it. I keep thinking I should try again; I found a great old sock pattern that I’ve had for donkey’s years that looks like it would knit up really attractively. I’m just not sure I want to sit there going around and around with size 1 DP needles. But they do look attractive…I may have to give them a shot one of these days. This pattern looks a lot easier than the one I tried before (toe-up), and other than requiring me to finally learn Kitchener stitch (which I really do need to learn), doesn’t call for anything exotic. And then if I fail again, it’s sock class time for me.

Or maybe I just won’t worry about it at all.

I’ve actually been a good girl since coming home from the vampires, have gotten a nice chunk of work done. So it’s nearly time for supper (marinated pork roast, rice, some veggie – I dunno, Papa Tigs fixes it, I just show up and eat it) and then Antiques Road Show. Another exciting evening at the Tiger Den.

I’m in class right now and it is very boring! My attention is wandering. The chicken was really good, btw.
sorry to hear about the 5th child dying, MBG. :frowning:
Back to class…shhhh!

So, it looks like everyone has decided to take naps and, on preview is waking up again. (And it looks like we have yet another item in common Taters; pricked with the same needle, so to speak…heeee…I crack me up).

My theory is that most people feel unpopular in high school, but also that geeky types are geeky because they’re more comfortable communicating in written words. And, as we grow up, we think that people who communicate well in writing are cool. Which is how we land here, of course.

I’m stubborn too, Taters (just ask my mother). Fortunately, I never took up smoking. My grandmother quit in her 60s when she realized how much money she would save if she didn’t buy cigarettes. She quit cold turkey and never (as far as I know) took it up again.

As for the girls vs. women thing. Two comments: 1) it feels funny to call women your age women for a while. It’s the inverse of being called ma’am. Both threw me off for a while, but now it seems normal. 2) it depends on where you are, I think. When I was growing up in academia (more than 15 years ago), it was very much frowned upon to call adult females anything but “women.” When I left academia, I found that there were a whole lot of women out there who never got comfortable with that word. I use woman, girl and sometimes gal interchangeably, depending on who I’m with.

Forgot to mention: sorry to hear about the 5th death, MBG. What a sad time for your community.

I’m on about laundry load 4. And I’ve been putting it away conscientiously as it’s been coming out of the dryer. Go me!

laughs Late again to the MMP, and I don’t even have the “I was at work and couldn’t post from there” excuse today.

Wonderful OP, FCM; so nice to be able to re-connect with friends, and glad that it went so well. Sounds like hopefully you can keep up with them now, especially since you’re in close proximity. I went to my 30th HS reunion in 2000; unfortunately, most of the friends I was close to then didn’t make that reunion, but hopefully I’ll see some of them at the 40th. Hopefully. Several have passed away (cancer, heart attack), unfortunately. :frowning: The Internet has opened many doors, that’s for sure. laughs I reconnected with a friend from grade school (best friend, lived next door, seemed to spend more time at her house than at mine sometimes) about 10 years ago, and we’ve been emailing ever since. I’d love to meet her again, but she’s in the Chicago area and I’m outside of DC; maybe after I retire.

Very interesting stories from the rest of ya’ll too! I was always on the fringe of the “cool” crowd, definitely not “in” but at least not completely “out.” LOL We also moved quite frequently (Dad’s a minister), but I did spend 9-12th at the same school. I’ve also been in email contact with HS friends, but haven’t seen most of them. Have been looking for some of the folks I went to college with, but haven’t had much luck there–I’m not an alumni, and the alumni lists are open only to alumni. :frowning: Plus many of the women are probably married and have different names, making it difficult to locate them! I have found one old friend, but have been afraid to email her, because I’d have to tell her that I was able to find her through the Internet and she might think that was stalking! College was Univ. of Delaware, Fall of 70 til Spring of 74, if anyone here went there. you never can tell!

Enjoyed my weekend of relaxing, back to work tomorrow.

Laundry load #5 is in the washer.

I have too much underwear with a surprising variety of sizes (even though they’re theoretically all the same).

That is all.

Not much to report here - sold a couple of bracelets and a necklace at the Coach’s Show tonight - I had taken some stuff in to show one lady who had asked, and then others wanted to see it, and I made a few sales. Enough to pay for my dinner! With some left over that will go to pay for the doctor’s visit tomorrow. I have a little list of things I need to bring up…

Connor was the player-guest on the Coach’s Show, and Coach brought up how he parks his Harley in his bedroom. I had to remind Coach after the show that Harley’s don’t leak oil - they mark their territory.

I’m going to finish a last load of laundry, then head off for a warm bath and bed.

I’m not sure that was a nap, so much as an extra night’s sleep. Anyway, I had the most bizarre dream: I was knitting something called a “Bearalect,” which enabled bears to speak English! Not any other language, just English, the dream was quite specific. I made “Catalects,” too. But there’s no such thing as a “Dogalect.” Then I dreamed that one of my favorite lesbian author switched genres and was writing gay male romances now, and they were her typical fare, wrought with outrageous misunderstandings, distraught spouses and general silliness. Finally, I was stranded in a parking lot, and was picked up by an Airplane-era Peter Graves, calling himself Leslie (as in Nielsen), and he was now a partner in The Firm. I’ve decided that I shouldn’t take a nap after eating Mexican food anymore. Obviously, it goes right to my head!

About that sock. It appears to be My First Project, by a 5 year old. Who learned to knit last week. When I am finished with it tomorrow night, it will go into the recesses of the closet to join My First Scarf and My First Sweater, never to be seen again by another soul if I can help it. I might try socks again, in a couple of years.

My Best Friend has met only two girls that she really likes. I’m one of them. I prefer my friends to be balanced, male and female. I get claustro with either too much guy-time or girl-time.

Home from work and thinking about bed. I’m sleepy. I didn’t get a nap.

Your My First Sock and my My First Sock can keep each other company, then, Jahdra. Although they both can feel very proud of not looking quite as bad as Palebunny’s 9-year-old first knitting attempt, which looks like My First…uh…Whatever. Actually, I could probably frame it and sell it as modern art for large sums of money; nobody could believe someone could knit a 9x12 chunk of…whatever that ineptly without working at it.

(I’ll know when she reads this by when she comes in and yells at me. Care to take wagers on whether that’ll be tonight or tomorrow morning? )

Time to finish my work and go to sleep. Since I didn’t take that nap and right now I can barely stay awake. But I can’t go to sleep till I finish this stupid job. Work. Sometimes I hate it.

Well, I was at work, so I did not get a nap today. One of my cashiers was an hour late, <insert 50,000 character Unabomber-like rant against youth>. At least there is hockey tomorrow. We play Etlanter.

gt, you shoud donate some of that underwear to QD. OK?

swampy, it’s easy to make a chicken. You lock a rooster and a hen in a bedroom with some Barry White tapes, and a copy of Playbird.

Jahdra, no Dogalect? :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:
