Given the mood around here recently, I’d like to give a few reasons why “I Like This Message Board”. I’m not that good at writing ode to’s or epic poems so I’ll just make a list.
This is a place where I can not just while away idle moments, but can fight my own ignorance at the same time.
You can learn something new here every day.
It allows me to practice and refine my somewhat meager writing skills and my rusty unused vocabulary.
There are some really intelligent people here to learn from. There are some very witty and humorous to be found here too. (the trolls come and go)
The bullshit tolerance is low here.
I have found a few hitherto unknown UBB skills! (but I’m still learning, so no cute bullets for my list)
To the Teeming Millions and the board we post on: Thank You!
I agree with you 100%. This does take some of the stress off during the day. The good thing about it is that you can answer what you want to and leave alone what you don’t want to answer. Most of the people here are pretty honest and straightforward, which doesn’t bother me. A few like to take your opinions and strip them line by line dissecting every word and twisting and turning them. But that’s ok too, you simply look at the source and let it be.
But all in all I’ll have to say you guys really brighten up my day. Laughter is the best form of medicine and you guys never fail to do that.
I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
That goes the same for me. I could care less where the addy is, it is the people on this board that I enjoy. Most of them are wise and witty and are an enjoyable addition to my day.
I really try to be good but it just isn’t in my nature!
I used to think this place was just a message board. A damn fine one, but still, just a message board.
Then we had the Michigan get-together. I had seen pictures of Dopers on Opal’s page, but they were just pictures, two-dimensional images no more alive than the posts here. In Ann Arbor, it all came alive, so to speak. Real people, and damn nice ones to boot.
Of course, I knew that the posters here were human before I actually met any of them. But now I can’t read a post from anyone I met in Ann Arbor without seeing a face.
That’s why I stay here.
This space blank, until Wally thinks up something cool to put here.
I agree with Nothingman. Without this board I would be efficent and productive at work, which would cause them to have higher expectations of me, which I would inevitably fail. So the SDMB keeps my level of production at a minimum. Thanks, guys! Oy, now I’m getting verklempt.
