You stupid fucking assholes <Brexit>

I can’t believe it, but it looks like the UK is leaving. You short-sighted, reactionary dickheads (pro-Brexit voters). Fuck. Too drunk and depressed at present to be more cogent. My apologies.

You think these voters were short-sighted, reactionary dickheads? I can’t wait to read what you write in November after Mr. Trump wins the election.

Looks again at the polls…

Yep, still not likely for the orangegutan.

As for Britain, I do not think it will be a big disaster, but I also do think that a lot of economical opportunities will be lost.

Eh.

So what are the actual implications of this? The UK isn’t in the Euro. They’re also not in the Schengen Zone. The probability of them joining either had always been nil. So what does EU membership actually get them - a free trade zone? Exiting the EU doesn’t preclude them from entering free trade agreements of their own, likely without all the onerous interference from Brussels.

Not that I think exiting is necessarily a good idea. I just don’t see it as the apocalyptic scenario some are making it out to be.

How? The main entity they’ll need to negotiate a free trade arrangement with is Brussels.

Right. A “Brussels” that they will no longer have seats in. And that’s annoyed with them.

EU members are still sovereign states. IIRC they still have the right to negotiate their own trade deals outside the EU’s influence. Switzerland is not an EU member but has free trade rules with many EU countries.

50% of Britian’s exports go the EU, every product will have to abide by the EU’s standards of which they will have no voice in forming.

This crap is the British Trump phenomenon become reality.

I agree.

Time to buy some GB pounds.

I was thinking it really looks like an excellent time to plan a vacation to the UK.

I’m just happy that Lindsay Lohan has weighed in with her analysis:

So a very close vote, on an issue where there are two diametrically-opposed options, also shows a difference of opinion! Who would have guessed?

Your own (reactionary) opinion is exactly the reason why the polls do not represent reality in the last two major elections. If a pro-exit voter were in a conversation with you then I’d expect them not offer a definite opinion, avoid the subject or flat-out lie.

Your seem to have an absolute certainty in the rightness of your position and an inability to consider that sober-minded, careful consideration from non-reactionary voters might lead to a “leave” vote.

My wife and I voted for opposite camps. I remember us both considering many pros and cons for leaving and staying but at no point did it stray into reactionary politics and I’m sure we weren’t alone in that.

+1, hell make that +2

And the longer he remains outrageously popular with those outraged at the Washington establishment while he’s being dismissed as a possibility by the Washington establishment and kindred likely voters outraged at his popularity, then the more nervous the rest of us get.

If this referendum proves anything at all, it’s that calling people xenophobes, reactionaries, and bigots doesn’t fucking work!

The point he’s making is that he disagrees with the idea that those outraged number nearly as much as some might think. Maybe he’s wrong, but what other evidence is there besides polls? The eye test? “Feelings”?

Also, I think the establishment has stopped dismissing him. That’s WHY they’re in such a panic right now.

The Brexit campaign had somehow managed the trick of legitemizing small-minded xenophobia by shouting down anybody who points out that their small-minded xenophobia was in fact small-minded xenophobia.

Nah. It’s simpler than that. The left commentariat has spent so many years matching every anti-immigration argument with shrieking accusations of racism that they’ve become utterly insufferable, and it’s simple human nature to disagree with disagreeable people.

You are trying to reach people who are incapable of enough self reflection to take that to heart. Some of my very first posts on this site were recommendations to not make enemies out of people by assuming what they thought. Of course the reflexive response was “OmO! A racist asshole111!!” Which of course led to the desired effect of convincing me of their good intentions and noble purpose.

I can’t do anything more than rant at this stage, but I guess the Pit’s the place for it…

Given the arguments for Brexit, the misinformation and the xenophobia, I think even a narrow win for Remain would have disappointed me about the state of the UK. But those racist fucks actually representing majority opinion is beyond the pale.

Already torn up any plans I had to return. Go to hell UK.
