Your Desktop Background

I’ve got a Pokemon theme, right now it’s Team Rocket but TinyTot changes it every hour or so. I’d create my own profile, but last time I did that, he figured out the password and changed my theme to something of his own liking.

I’m currently sportin’ a nice sunset behind the mountains on a perfectly clear summer day, that I took myself a few months ago, to help get me through the rainy season here in Seattle…

A pal of mine has some sort of routine that grabs the APOD each morning and uses it as his background. I wish I could tell you how to do it, but his kung fu greatly exceeds mine.

Mine is this:

One of my profs said that he bought his kid those educational placemats, because kids will read ANYTHING while eating breakfast cereal, and SOME of it has to stick. I’m hoping backgrounds work on the same principle.

At work I have my astrology chart. Complete with all the aspects and houses.

At home I have a beautiful picture of Stonehenge at sunset.

I have a picture of the Simpsons. It looks like they’re busting through my screen. It goes well with my Simpsons sounds that I use.

I’ll have to second that one. My desktop is currently “Oasis” from digitalblasphemy. I love CG stuff and the guy who created that site is a real artist with it.

Mine’s currently a picture of the water spray/mushroom cloud stem of shot Baker at Bikini. Before that it was an AC-130 Spectre gunship squeezing off a 105mm howitzer round.

Default Blue.

I had Dali’s ‘The Hallucinogenic Toreador’ up for quite some time, then the Lord of the Rings trailor came out and I found this site–

I have a photo of an SR-71 Blackbird in flight. Cool. I got it from Webshots. They have all sorts of photos of everything from kittens to landscapes to extreme sports to outer space, specifically set up for the desktop. Check it out if you get a chance.

For the last few weeks I have had a picture of Sesame Street characters being bad. I can’t remember who’s doing what, but one has a knife, one a gun, one a beer, one’s smoking, etc… I laugh my ass off every time I see it.

Euty, I’ve found plenty of Van Gogh, but unfortunately not “Starry Night” (my favorite). Where did you find it?

xizor, where did you get MC Escher’s “Relativity”. I’d love to have it!

Myself, plain gray background.

I made a collage of pictures I have on my PC. I want to update it, but I can’t find the pictures I want to add. Oh well.

A perspective map, drawn in 1886, of the town of Haydenville, Massachusetts. I got it from the Library of Congress’ American Memory site, which is chock full of cool stuff, like the early Edison movies Eve mentioned in another thread.

Right now I have a picture of Machu Picchu that I took whilst on vaction to Peru. I also use pictures from Hubble Heritage site. http://heritage.stsci.edu/public/commonpages/galaxies.html

I’ve never ridden there but I will.

I have a friend that does CG, akin to digitalblasphemy, he saw my background from that esteemed site and asked what I liked about it. He made me my very own background. Just for me!

It is a very vivid night over water scene with a bright white marbled moon and a dim red moon hiding behind thin mist. It makes me happy!

Not to make this complicated, but I have three desktops.

The main computer is the one i use to go online with, and it has two usernames for it. The regular one is my mom’s: she’s got a picture of a fawn pug wearing a princess crown that she scanned off a greeting card. (She’s a big pug fanatic.)

The other one is mine: I’ve got one my best friend and I made, a montage of racing pictures. Mostly from CART, but I have an alternate theme that I put up every other month where the background is NASCAR. Right now it’s CART, with pictures of the indy cars and of Alex Tagliani, Dario Franchitti and Greg Moore. When it’s NASCAR, it’s more cars and a bunch of drivers. The icons I made are all the same for each – racing flags and stuff like that.

In my bedroom I have another computer that isn’t hooked up to the internet, and that one’s desktop is a random cowboy picture I found somewhere.

Depending on my mood my desktop background is either a picture of the 4th hole of the Augusta National golf course or a home made bitmap of the kind of spots on a Hereford Cow. It took me a good 3-4 hours to get the spots to look right.
