I’m searching for a new desktop background. So far, I haven’t had too much luck. So I thought I’d poll my fellow Dopers to see what they’ve got.
Serenity.
September 30, baby!
This, except I’ve changed the color and made it redder.
I change mine about once a week, and it’s pretty much always one of my own photos.
Currently it’s a picture from yesterday of a building on my college campus (Ohio Wesleyan Unviersity). Here’s a small version.
Last week it was a close-up of the top of Key Tower in Cleveland (mini link).
I’m afraid I can’t help you much in finding a good new background.
Usually photos I’ve taken, mostly either aviation or shipping. Currently, a ground-to-air shot of the Commemorative Air Force’s Curtiss Helldiver, displayed at last year’s Wings Over Houston air show.
I made my wallpaper myself, since I couldn’t find anything premade based on the Courtney Crumrin comics (I also make my own icons, now).
This is what it looks like. (I also have a 1024X768 version, which I made more or less for the heck of it.) From the cover of CC & the Coven of Mystics #1 - cropped it, moved her name down, removed the numbering and ‘fifth anniversary’ blurb from the Oni logo.
The middle one on the left from here. At work I have a scene from Fantasia (alligagors in capes and a hippo in a tutu), but I don’t remember when I got it.
This, centered and with the background done to match the color of the sky. I love explodingdog.
Mine’s bizarre. It’s done in different shades of purple. It’s a six pointed star, like a star of Davis, with a 4 toed foot in the middle. There are swirls throughout, as well. I find mine by doing a google picture search for something random, like purple or flower. It’s fun. Maybe I’ll change mine, it’s been like this for a while
I can’t help much with finding a good new desktop, since mine’s personal, but this is mine. I made it using Picasa.
Mine is this, centered and with a black background. I’ve just saved a bunch of backgrounds from the site that twickster linked to, so it may soon be two guys in their skivvies holding fig leaves. Because that’s hot.
Me driving my sports car on a race track, taken by a professional photographer. It’s one of these (I change them around every so often).
It an astronomical one featureing two spiral galaxies. I don’t know whether or not they’re colliding. NASA just has so many cool pics though.
I have a pic of the Villa of the Mysteries on mine.
I have a great shot of Mount St Helens as my background.
A desktop-sized version of this. I change it once a week or so; it’s nearly always something I shot myself.
No no no, Casey, it’s better Nate than lever.
As for me: I have these three, and a picture of my girlfriend.
If none of the ones here do it for you, head over to DeviantArt (possibly not worksafe), there are many, many visually stunning wallpapers there.
It’s a painting of one of the glorious sensets that inspired so many artists after Krakatoa exploded in the Nineteenth Century.
I searched and searched until I could find the most beautiful, refined, uplifting and just plain edifying work of art in existence for my desktop.
(Who couldn’t love Stevie Smith).
