Your Desktop Background

I change the background just about every time I’m on the web. It’s so easy to right-click on any picture.

Last week it was an Edward Hopper picture of a 30’s gas station.

Then a drooling teething baby.

Then a 3-d computer graphics rendering of a japanese flower arrangement.

Right now it’s Nikki Cox and Bobcat Goldthwait, I found when getting a review on her new show.

I use this website too. I love that I can change my desktop every day if I want to. They have a really wide selection. Right now I have one called “Pending Precipitation”. It’s a picture of a storm over the ocean, but taken from maybe 50 miles away. The cloud formation is pretty cool.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the venerable PROPAGANDA yet (dear god, will their website ever stop getting weirder?). I’m currently using the-bot-is-dead-7.jpg (tiled, of course).

My desktop, up until a month ago or so, was this from brycetopia.com. Now, it’s the tower .jpg from theMyst 3 site.

Right at this moment, it is my grandaughter. I have a whole directory of wallpaper, though. I even have phony versions of the MS default ones.

My versions of “clouds” has a little bird flying in it.

I have “bricks” and “grass” and “leaves” and “rocks” and “ducks” and half a dozen nebulae.

I also have an icon editor, which is great fun. Instead of “My Computer” I have an apple with a bite out of it, named “Byte Me” My network neighborhood icon (I have no network) is entirely transparent. It is named “quack” but is lined up so that the name doesn’t show.

Work systems have circuit diagrams on them, jpgs of a couple of my co.s chips.

My home systems have original art done by friends or commisioned by me. Generally fantasy characters or scenes.

I have a spy photo from Star Wars Episode II as my backdrop. That Hayden Christensen is downright stalkable.

Home computer #1: A shot of lower Manhattan that I took from the Forbes yacht, Highlander

Home computer #2: A shot of Derek Jeter, Tino Martinez and Jeff Nelson that I took at a Yankee game earlier this year

Home computer #3: A picture of the house in which I grew up

Work computer: A really cool drawing of the Enterprise-E jumping into warp

Maybe not as interesting to the world but I have a picture of the Chancling on my machine at work. She’s about 4 months old and we caught her giving the ‘thumbs up’ sign.

Beaker from the Muppets.

posted by Yojimbo in the muppets thread a while ago.

I have the painting Gargoyles by Michael Parkes.

If you wanna take a look at some of his other stuff (Gargoyles) isn’t there, but…), check out

I make my own to use and alternate (and share) them: Buffy-oriented and more ethically related.

From this site, the same one mentioned by Uncle Beer earlier in this column.

Hey U.I., thanks for the URL!!! I now have Warhol’s “The Gun” gracing my desktop…awesome!

Ditto on the thanks to Uke. Fabulous. I’m still looking for one - it’s hard to choose with all of that mastery before me.

A picture of the building I lived in in college. It’s been a long time, but seeing that building still makes me happy

My wallpaper is an image of the second-most beautiful woman in the world, Jennifer Connelly. In the past I have had images of Maggie Cheung or Jessic Alba as the screen candy.

I hope that doesn’t make me a bad person.

Two words. Andrea Corr.

That was my hetro-life partner micilin
