Your Fantasy Football Draft

What happened in your draft?

Some categories, I suppose:

Your First Pick : LaDainian Tomlinson, with the third pick

Your best/worst pick: Well I didn’t have a “best” pick…but as for my worst one I got James Stewart in the 6th round, then i found out he WAS ON INJURED RESERVE the whole year. Bah.

First player selected overall in the draft: Priest Holmes

Primo player that was a steal for someone: Brett Favre went in our 7th round…boy, are there a lot of good QBs

Worst pick by someone in your league: Someone drafted Curtis Martin with their fifth pick. Those -7 receiving yards, woo.

What positions did you draft for your first 5?: RB RB WR WR QB

Feel free to make up your own categories or share any stories. Thanks!

I think you should be thrilled getting LD with the third pick. LD and Ricky Williams went 1-2 in my (and most) drafts…

I picked third and landed Marshall Faulk.

Went RB RB QB WR TE

So my team looks like this:

QB Drew Bledsoe

RB Marshall Faulk
RB Ahman Green

WR Lavernius Coles
WR Jerry Rice

TE Tony Gonzalez

K David Akers

D Baltimore Ravens

A little early to call worst pick, but we did have one person reach for Drew Brees in the third round. Also, he picked LD and David Boston, so whoever catches him on the Chargers bye week has got a freebie.

Here we go:

  1. Vick, Michael (QB-Atl) – yeah, ouch…two hours later, I hear on the radio he breaks his leg…also on the no-drop list

profanities spewed forth

  1. George, Eddie (RB-Ten)
  2. Price, Peerless (WR-Atl)
  3. Barlow, Kevan (RB-SF)
  4. Gardner, Rod (WR-Was)
  5. Jolley, Doug (TE-Oak)
  6. DEF - Miami (DEF-Mia)
  7. Chrebet, Wayne (WR-NYJ)
  8. Williams, Jimmy (DB-SF)
  9. Alstott, Mike (RB-TB)
  10. Edinger, Paul (K-Chi)
  11. Fauria, Christian (TE-NE)
  12. Collins, Kerry (QB-NYG)
  13. Brooking, Keith (DL-Atl)
  14. Patten, David (WR-NE)
  15. DEF - Chicago (DEF-Chi)
  16. Alexander, Stephen (TE-SD)
  17. Schroeder, Bill (WR-Det)

It looks alright. I’ve since dropped Collins for Hasselbeck, hopefully he’ll burst out this year.

Here’s my team for Osip’s SDMB league:

QB: Aaron Brooks, Rich Gannon, Tommy Maddox
RB: Ricky Williams, Eddie George, Warrick Dunn, Jerome Bettis
WR: David Boston, Amani Toomer, Rod Smith, Michael Lewis, Tim Brown
TE: Anthony Becht, Kyle Brady
K: Jason Elam, Ryan Longwell
DEF: Miami, Baltimore

Your First Pick : Clinton Portis, fifth pick. Lucky for me the guy before was on autopick and took Shaun Alexander.

Your best/worst pick: Best pick, maybe David Boston in the fourth. Worst, I don’t really have one. Maybe taking Curtis Martin in the seventh instead of Lav Coles (I thought Coles would still be there when it came back) but either one would be a backup, so its no big deal.

First player selected overall in the draft: Tomlinson

Primo player that was a steal for someone: I have no idea. I still like getting Portis with the fifth pick. No question he’s a top four player.

Worst pick by someone in your league: James Stewart in the 10th, I guess.

What positions did you draft for your first 5?: RB RB WR WR WR

Hrm, what draft to use? I’ll use the first draft I did this season, which I think turned out the best. Draft was August 14 (post-Vick, pre-Pennington, pre-Stewart ;)), a Yahoo! public league, 10 teams, 15 players per team, fairly standard rosters and scoring.

Your First Pick : I had the first pick and I wasted no time in making my first and only homer pick of the draft: Ricky Williams.

Your best/worst pick: My best pick(s) might have been Driver and Green with the last pick in 5 and first in 6, after guys like O.Smith, Canidate, Conway, and J.Smith had already been drafted. Best pick overall was probably A.Green in late 3 (27th overall). I also really like W.Dunn in late 12 (119th overall). If he starts, Hambrick leading off the 13th was probably my best pick. Alternatively, picking up Q.Morgan off waivers after he went undrafted might have been my best pick. Zeroue in the last round (141st overall) was also nice. We’ll see what he does.

My worst pick I would say was Buckhalter at 120th (last in 12th). But at the time Staley was still holding out and I overestimated Reid’s stones. Kevin Faulk finishing off the 10th was also a bad pick, I don’t know what had me so high on him. Pennington to close the 8th seemed like a great pick at the time – fortunately I traded him just days before he went down.

First player selected overall in the draft: Ricky, as mentioned above. The rest of the first round was McNabb, Tomlinson, Holmes, Portis, Faulk, Alexander, Harrison, Deuce, and Edge.

Primo player that was a steal for someone: Oops, answered this one above. I also got Favre in the 7th. Green, McNair, and Hasselbeck all going in the 10th are actually even better.

Worst pick by someone in your league: Where to start? (Although I could never top taking C.Martin at 5th overall. WOW.) Fred Taylor in early 2 (14th overall) with S.Davis, Henry, Barber, J.Lewis, A.Green, and George all still on the board is pretty atrocious, but you gotta blame Yahoo’s ranks for that one. Garcia in mid 3 (26th overall) is the same story… TB DEF at 42nd is bad, and Vanderjagt at 51 is too; but the first DEF and K taken always are. Jerramy Stevens at 71 stands out. Jimmy Smith at 44 is a huge reach.

What positions did you draft for your first 5?: RB RB WR WR WR (RB QB QB DEF RB WR RB RB TE RB, I like to be pretty straightforward, and no, I didn’t draft a kicker).

QB Favre, Pennington
RB R.Williams, W.Green
RB T.Barber, T.Hambrick, K.Faulk, A. Zeroue, C.Buckhalter
WR E.Moulds, D.Jackson
WR P.Price
WR D.Driver
TE C.Fauria
D Balt
K -

Not too bad. Through trading and free agent acquisitions I arrived at my opening day roster:
QB Favre, Mcnair
RB R.Williams, W.Green
RB M.Faulk, T.Hambrick, A.Zeroue
WR E.Moulds, Q.Morgan
WR D.Driver, D.Jackson
WR D.Boston
TE Fauria
DEF Balt
K Stover

Quite a bit better. I’d like to get Betts but can’t really spare the roster room, and I’d also like to improve at TE (Fauria’s a throwaway (actually I’m thinking of replacing him with Walls (actually I just did, but I’m sure I’ll be picking up someone else next week too))). But I’m certain I’ll reach the playoffs with this squad.

I was in a 12-team league with people who pretty much knew what they were doing. I was the only first timer. Most of them have won other leagues in the past. In the first two rounds of our draft, only two non-RB’s were selected. (Harrison and Owens) We have 2 RB spots and a flex WR/RB spot in our league so I guess everyone knew the talent was going to be thin there since some people would run with 3 RB’s. I picked first overall and by the time it got back to me at the end of the 2nd round, the best RB available was Curtis Martin. I was happy to get him, considering the RB carnage. Of course he bombed the first week.

Your First Pick: I took Ricky Williams first overall.

My best/worst pick: My worst pick may be Kurt Warner in the 5th round. Luckily I grabbed Bulger in the 10th, so that might still work out OK. My best pick was definitely Randy Moss in the 3rd round. I was thrilled he was still available. Another good pick was Dunn in the 4th round, considering how fast all the best RB’s went. Having Martin and Dunn allows me to run 3 RB’s instead of 3 WR’s which will probably help with consistency.

Primo player that was a steal for someone: Everyone seemed to forget about Mike Vick completely, or they just didn’t want to work him into their draft strategy. My buddy was able to pick him up in the 8th round, with Brooks as his other QB. Another good one was Priest Holmes, who went 7th overall. I was surprised he dropped that low.

Worst pick by someone in your league: There were a few doosies. James Stewart was picked in the 2nd round. Ouch!! Manning was picked early in the 3rd as the 2nd QB overall. Somebody took Quincy Morgan incredibly high, 4th round I think, 5th or 6th WR overall.

What positions did you draft for your first 5? I went RB RB WR RB QB WR TE D D QB D WR… we picked 3 defensive players rather than a team defense.

My team looks like this:

QB: Warner/Bulger
RB: Ricky Williams
RB: Curtis Martin
WR: Randy Moss
WR: Troy Brown/James Thrash/Anquan Boldin (depends on matchup)
WR/RB: Warrick Dunn
TE: Bubba Franks
K: Ryan Longwell
D: London Fletcher
D: Donnie Edwards
D: Chris Claiborne/Eric Barton
