Your Favorite "Angry Humor"

Do you have any good examples? Stand-up, movies, shows, interviews, etc… ?

As much as I love to laugh, I usually need it mainlined via stand-up comedy, Bill Hicks, George Carlin… Mort Sahl might be my funniest, but he doesn’t show his anger much during stand-up, although he does in interviews, many which are very funny.

The only show I can think of that has some funny writing is “The Larry Sanders Show” and although Garry Shandling is the star, creator, and sometimes writer of the show, to me it’s Rip Torn’s anger that makes me laugh. Even in the first one, “I killed a man like you in Korea!” over and over.

Joe Pesci is a guy who is usually funny, again, when he’s angry… I’m thinking specifically of the scene in Casino, the “Charley M” scene.

Some examples of movies.
La Strada - When Zampano is trying to teach Gelsomina how to introduce him, he tells her to say, “Here he is…… ZAMPANO!” and she’s not in the mood, bring thrusted into this life only because her sister died, and because her family needs the money, she barely musters enough energy and says without any energy.
“Zampano is here” — very funny, great turn of a phrase.

-One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – Lots of little interesting things, mostly Jack Nicholson, even though Danny Devitto is usually funny (in the show, “It’s Always Sunny…” and also in “Twins”)…. My favorite humor scene is when Jack is being analyzed by a handful of psychiatrists, and is asked by the man with the glasses and red-brown mustache "What do you think the phrase ‘A rolling stone gathers no moss’’ he answers it, and then throws the analogy, "Well, its kinda like the phrase “Don’t do your dirty laundry in public”, and then the analyst looks confused and says, “I don’t think I understand”… Then Jack looks at the Indian doctor and says, “See, I’m smarter than he is!” (funny how he deduces that)

-Buffalo '66 – The time with his parents is funny… After they leave, he (Vincent Gallo) tells Christina Ricci (mocking her voice) “He works at the CIA. Everyone loves him. The president loves him”….
“Do you think my father believed that for one minute?” he tells her angrily.

-A Woman Under the Influence – to me, the funniest woman I’ve ever seen on the big screen wasn’t even an actress - it was John Cassavetes’ mom! I always smile when they have the coming home party for Muriel, and at one point she asks/laments “Coca-Cola?” and probably repeats it again with more words….

-Minnie and Moskowitz – again, its Katherine Cassavetes who is funny. Especially how she degrades her son, Seymour Cassell.

One of my favorites is Lewis Black. I consider him an angry comedian.

There’s some free Lewis Black on prime, and I started to watch it. He had some funny stuff before so I was hopeful but…not so much on that one.

Sam Kinison of course. NSFW

Went right to Lewis Black also.

Bill Burr. His “No Reason to Hit a Woman” bit is savage and hilarious. And, obviously, NSFW

Chris Porter’s Ugly and Angry is a genius-level show IMO; here’s six minutes about stupid people.

Bill Burr is a great comedian. I love his Monday Morning Podcasts, too. His anger to me is more sincere, where with Lewis Black (saw him live, too) and Sam Kinison, it seems to be more of a schtick.

Just saw Bill Burr in The King of Staten Island. I never paid much attention to him before but he was pretty good in this role.

Bill Burr is the best current example. Burr makes his anger a fundamental part of his act, and he’s very self aware; he admits he reacts to things inappropriately because he has anger issues but weaves that in to the jokes. He also has an unparalleled ability to go past that and weave great stories. Now that he’s married and has kids, he’s actually much funnier, because it’s obvious he puts a lot of effort into being a better person and he works that into his act too.

I usually don’t like “Angry guy” comics because it’s normally just “Everyone is a stupid jerk and I’m calling them out.” Burr’s genius is that he calls people out but as often than not, he’s the asshole of the story, and he’s very aware of it and lets you in on that fact.

His story about the sign language gorilla is one of my favourite bits from any comedian, and involves some genuinely hysterical physical humor.

Yeah, Bill Burr is exactly where I was going to go with this one. Check him out.

If you’re okay with Louis CK, give that a shot. It’s more frustrated than angry, but it’s really good.

Yeah, he’s very goodI saw him live about 7 months ago, and besides already hearing a lot of his (leaked) set, he wasn’t great, and the audience was AWFUL… Too many drunks, and too many people shouting, as if he could hear them. I can’t stand an audience that tries to be the center of attention. I don’t know if you have seen all his specials, but I think his last two haven’t been up to par. Then again, I say this about many (Bill Burr, Doug Stanhope)… Speaking of Doug, I was going to mention Doug Stanhope, which is a mix of some anger, more frustration, and maybe a tad of bewilderment. But hanging out with him in person (after one show), he didn’t show any signs of anger, except for a second at the airport, when an employee told him he had to walk the entire route of this long (and empty) line with the nylon ropes (after he tried to duck under and cut) and said “You have to go back” and he just repeated the line in disgust and did the long walk, which was kinda funny.

Just the guy I was thinking of.

More Davis Mitchell

Dennis Miller in his heyday- "I dont want to get into a rant here…" and then goes into a rant.

Also, of course sometimes Last Week Tonite.

I like all the comedians mentioned in this thread. But my go to is Kinison. His anger isn’t schtick. He had his heart broken and he’s pissed off about it.

I think sometimes it’s part of his persona, but I believe he was completely angry when it came to women rants. He’d even do the female part using a high-pitch annoying voice just to show more contempt.

There’s a series of bits from Mahk, a character from the youtube channel Zebra Corner. They mostly make videos inserting Mahk into commercials. Their best know bits are from the ‘Real people, not actors’ commercials Chevy put out a few years ago, like this:
If "Real People" Commercials Were Real Life - CHEVY Invisible Trailer - YouTube (3mins, Potsch is the recurring focus group host)

The Daytona 500/IPad “What’s a computer” twofer is pretty good:
If Commercials were Real Life - Daytona 500/Apple iPad - YouTube (1:40)

George Carlin and his angry-routine that he developed over years was the best. He was actually a very chill and calm guy, but the routine/act was great.
