Pie. Key lime or pecan tied for 1st place.
It’s not my favorite but I love peanut butter cookies. Crunchy, with bottoms that are almost burnt.
I also like pineapple upside down cake.
Creme brulee. Plain, without any fruit or flavors.
Something really nice in the contrast between the smooth custard and crunch sugar that is quite nice.
Fresh, exotic fruit with or without some sort of dip.
I don’t really like the kinds of dessert you can make at home without patisserie certification. I prefer classy desserts. All classy desserts have one thing in common: they are layered. Marzipan, fruit preserves, phyllo dough, whipped cream, custard, ganache, or cake may constitute the layers. The more layers you can see in a cross-section, the classier the dessert is.
As a baker it’s kind of strange that I can’t name a favorite dessert.
My favorite food is fresh bread, with butter. For a favorite meat I’d say fried chicken. Favorite breakfast is toast, bacon, and over easy eggs. Favorite snack is chips and salsa. For outside cooking it’s hotdogs over a fire.
Of course, for the above items there are many items in those categories wherein I like other choices almost as well. But I can’t name a favorite dessert.
If forced I’d probably have to name good quality ice cream. But then I’d start thinking “What about homemade baklava? Or devil’s food cake with fudge icing? Or…?”
