Being a frequent fast food eater, I recently decided to try the Wendy’s Southwest Chicken Acocado Bacon salad. It’s pretty good, but since I’m not looking for an extended trial-and-error period, I’m looking for suggestions on which to try next. So please share, if you have any.
The only place I would get a fast food salad is Nando’s I think. They’re not just afterthoughts of condiments tossed into a container with some lettuce. Well, actually they are just combinations of sides put together, but all their sides are really good, and you can get their chicken and/or halloumi added to it. They’re only in Chicago, Baltimore, and DC in the US though.
Does stuff like Panera Bread count as “fast food”? Sorry, I don’t have any current contributions as I haven’t really eaten out since COVID as “convenience food” is the least convenient thing for me, but I used to eat a lot of salads from places like that or similar “soup/salad/sandwich” type spots and they were always better than anything I got from the mcDonalds/Wendy’s of the world.
Are you saying that only places like Wendy’s (McD’s, Burger King, etc.) are acceptable? Around these parts lots of supermarkets have pre-made salads. If you’re willing to pop in and grab one, it’s still pretty “fast.”
I used to go to a Tom Thumb (which might be a Randall’s or other in your area) and they had a steak salad with chipotle dressing that was really good. But if you want warm/hot protein, that wouldn’t be for you.
If they’re in your area Kneaders has a pretty good Southwest BBQ Chicken salad.
I like the “any sandwich as a salad” option at Subway. I frequently get the “Spicy Italian” on spinach, with shredded mozzarella, tomato, red onion, green pepper, black olives, vinegar, and oil. Yummy. (I’ve been avoiding bread, chips, rice, french fries, and other high-carb starchy stuff for several months. I’m down 20 pounds! Woohoo!)
I didn’t know that. Next time I have to go there, I’ll try that.
Wendy’s taco salad was my favorite. I don’t think they have it anymore.
They still do around here (north Jersey), as I plan on trying it next week.
While I did specify “fast food”, please share others by all means.
Huh. I had looked at the generic Wendy’s menu and didn’t see it, so I thought it had been phased out. Wendy’s is our favorite fast food when driving around the U.S., 1) because we like it and 2) there aren’t any in Switzerland, so if we are going to go to a chain, Wendy’s it is.
I haven’t had one in years but McDonald’s salads with grilled chicken were pretty good. The ones I had always were fresh and had crispy lettuce.
I agree, it was awesome. They still have it but it seems different now.
My experience as well. McDonald’s does a surprisingly decent salad. Whereas Burger King tosses leftover burger toppings into a bowl and calls it a salad.
I’m not a big fan of Chick-fil-A in general, but they have a Southwest salad that is pretty good.
I haven’t seen any salads at McDonald’s since covid started, so as a substitute I’ve been picking up prepared salads from Walmart. They have a good variety, and except for one that was obviously partially frozen, they’ve been fine. I’m partial to their walnut chicken one myself.
