when it was recorded, she danced to the music played at half the speed. After that, the video was sped up to 200%. Gives a really neat effect. (With the downside that the sync is sometimes a bit off)
Forget all this talk of Paul the opera-singer or little angelic Conny winning Britain’s got Talent, the clear favourite so far is
I think you’re right. There’ve been lots of successful singers/performers who were far more lacking in talent or technical skill than this fellow is. It’s hard to say sometimes why people are drawn to some particular artist.
My local comic shop doesn’t get the manga or the books, so I hope they do add some more.
The episodes weren’t originally shown in chronological order (by design, as far as I can tell). And the DVD order is off the chronological order by one. Have a chart.
Sure, if all he wants is a record career.
If he actually wants to sing opera (as in, with an opera company, on stage), he’ll need a lot more than a record contract and talent-show credentials.
By the way, from looking at the YouTube video, it looks like the television company promoted Paul Potts as a mobile phone salesman who happens to be able to sing opera. Even given his flawed performance (which most of us don’t pick up on, given our lack of exposure to opera), that would be remarkable if it were that simple. But from reading his Wikipedia entry, he’s got some training in Italy and has sung with amateur companies and even the Royal Philharmonic.
I thought she looked a little … unnatural. She’s … she’s a zombie!
Great! Maybe he’ll get that career after all.
Here’s an NPR interview with him.
Has anyone posted the a-capella version of Bitches Ain’t Shit (as arranged by Ben Folds)? (NSFW - language)
MC Hammer versus Michael Jackson
The winner is clear (IMHO), but it’s hard not to love both by the end of the video.
DOES ANYBODY HAVE AN ACTIVE LINK TO THE BABY LANDLORD/WILL FERRELL VIDEO FROM THE LAST YOUTUBE FAVORITES THREAD?
Here you go!

Thanks!
The entry’s been recently edited; it no longer mentions either training in Italy or the RPO.
At any rate, not to belabor the point, but that’s all fairly irrelevant. Even if true, training in Italy means, well, he took some lessons in Italy. No more, no less. Amateur opera is all well and good, but it’s a lot like community theater; I’ve sung with companies that are barely above “amateur” with some frankly astonishingly bad singers.
As for the Royal Philharmonic, if he has sung with them, it is most likely with a choral group in a choral work. He is certainly talented enough to be a professional chorister. I would bet quite a bit that he has never soloed with the RPO.
You’re more than welcome. When I searched, I found 3-4 that had been removed before I found the one that worked. Anyone know a reason why?

The entry still links to a bio of him as one of the featured players in Aida at the Bath Opera. This bio says much the same thing: “He has spent two summers touring Northern Italy training with one of the major opera schools, and has taken part in masterclasses with Vilma Vernocchi, Katia Ricciarelli and Luciano Pavarotti. He has also performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.”
But my point was merely that the television show seemed to present him as this ordinary guy who just happens to be able to sing in an operatic style, but that’s not at all the situation.
YouTube was invented for things like this: a collection of Saul Bass opening credit sequences.
IMHO that’s part of the point. If you do watch it in chronological order (which I did my first time through), the last ep is really, really boring. And ep 6 is pretty much the climax of the show–it should be shown at the end of the series, not halfway through.
It does now and he has just won the show!
