Your last meal of 2008

Cheese fondue
Chocolate pudding pie

Never ask a kid what they want. :smack:

I had pretty crowns installed on the 30th, with the happy result of being able to use my front teeth yesterday. Yay! My last 2008 meal was a shitty, but thoroughly enjoyed, fastfood cheeseburger, a slightly mealy (but surprisingly yummy) apple, and crunchy corn chips with sticky cheese dip. Perhaps my best meal of the year, and I say that entirely without sarcasm.

This morning, we had eggs benedict, and New Years Gooey Rolls.

I don’t know the proper name – Gram’s sweet bread “cinnamon rolls” with orange frosting, 50/50 OJ & cream in place of milk recipe, lots less cinnamon, with a shiny new penny tucked in the middle of the center roll.

Superstition is bad, but Yummy superstition can be, occasionably, tolerable.

Last of 2008: homemade cheeseburger.
First of 2009: cheeseburger. (We barbecued at work.)

I love cheeseburgers.

2008: I’m determined to go back to my old far more healthy ways 2009, but I wanted to make something I’ve made only once before, first.

Chicken fried steak.

So I had CFS (the most perfect of all foods that will give you a heart attack on a plate), gravy, mashed potatoes, GRAVY, and steamed mixed veggies.

I had to get up early for work, so ate left over mash and veggies for breakfast.

For the first meal 2009, we had freezer pizza and a well (if I may say) doctored up can of blackeyed peas.

Last meal of 2008: Went to a dinner party, had lobster and crab legs, knock-off Cheddar Bay Biscuits, lemon-horseradish new potatoes, spinach salad, and orange blondies for dessert. Drank Kaliber, since I’m still pregnant.

First meal of 2009: Scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast, with OJ.

Last meal of 2008: Spaghetti with veggie chili and cheese on top, French garlic bread, peppermint white cocoa, Peppermint Peeps.

First meal of 2009: Peppermint white cocoa, Peppermint Peeps.

We went out to ‘our restaurant’ and I had macaroni au gratin (I still get a chuckle out of that name) and pumpkin ravioli over spinach. I drank a hot toddy, and dessert was tiramisu mousse. I’m trying to remember my girlfriend’s order- there was definitely a green salad in there, with a glass of red wine, but I forget the main course. Back at my place around midnight, we drank hot chocolate and had some Danish butter cookies.

Peeps aren’t for eating, Peeps are only for armed combat.

Last meal of 2008: We celebrated Christmas with my husband’s family that evening so dinner was awesome. We had marinated pork chops with bourbon sauce, mashed potatoes (the kind with sour cream and cream cheese mixed in and cheese on top), corn, dinner rolls, and fruit soup, followed by a selection of Christmas cookies. I also had a glass of water and some port, and later some champagne.

First meal of 2009: Two open-faced Cheese Whiz and green olive sandwiches. (I know, it’s terrible, but I crave it.)

Last meal of 2008: Nuked a serving of a casserole I’d made from Christmas dinner leftovers. (Turkey shepherd’s pie: turkey, gravy, peas mixed together and topped with mashed potatoes, baked for about 45 minutes. Even better with a bottom layer of stuffing, but the stuffing sucked, so I didn’t use it.)

First meal of 2009: Bowl of raisin bran.

A piece of bagel with some cream cheese concoction at a party I wasn’t aware I was going to until that night.

A delmonico steak, a baked potato with butter and sour cream, and a good beer. Mmmmmm.

Last of 2008: Home made chicken and broccoli white pizza and an Arnold Palmer. ( I was DD on New Years)

First of 2009: Couple of Hostess powdered mini donuts and coffee.

Last of 2008: Lamb chop over mashed potatoes and topped with red cabbage at The Wine Bar of Saratoga, along with a flight of red wines.

First of 2009: Continental breakfast of crossants, juice, and tea at the Saratoga Downtowner Motel.

Last of 2008: Home made falafel on pita with raita (a mixture of chilis, cucumber, coriander and tomatoes in yogurt) on top then later, two tangerine & chocolate cookies and port.

First of 2009: Same as usual - 1 cup vanilla yogurt with sliced almonds on top, one tangerine and a cup of coffee.

NYE I had a roast beef sub with “everything” on it. I’d been wanting one of those for about a week, and that seemed as good a time as any.

As for the first thing I had yesterday, I don’t have the slightest idea. And no, I wasn’t drunk. I didn’t even drink NYE. But I did watch the pretty ball fall down in Times Square.

Last meal of 2008: I made split-pea soup in the crockpot using the last of the Christmas ham, so we had that for dinner with some fresh French bread. Yum!

Last snack: Chips & dip around 11:30 p.m. Sparkling cider at midnight.

Last meal of 2008: Papa a la huancaína, from an old family recipe.
First meal of 2009: Aside from the traditional 12 grapes at midnight, mote, a hominy-and-scrambled egg mix that is an Andean staple breakfast.

Both very Peruvian, my mom would be so proud.

Last meal of 2008: free-form nibblers from a tray of assorted cheeses and meats, washed down with copious amounts of good wine and finished with port, Stilton and walnuts.

First meal of 2009: Depends. Do you count the Bloody Mary for breakfast? If not, then it was the home-made jambalaya we had for dinner.

Last meal of 2008 was from Morton’s:
Broiled, bacon wrapped sea scallops
A porterhouse served more rare than medium
Lyonnaise potatoes and garlic green beans.
and Hot Chocolate Cake, all served with a 2004 Silver Oak Cabernet

First meal of 2009 was from Wildfire
Chopped Salad
Wood-fired chicken and St. Louis ribs combo with
an entire head of broccoli
Warm apple crostada (or whatever they call it)
Whilst enjoying a mojito

I love gift cards.
