SALSA, you say? Try heating some shrimp in a whole jar of salsa and serve over rice. Saute some chopped onion, celery, and garlic in EVOO first to make it extra tasty!
Sounds good. I might try it with couscous, too. Or grits.
Since we are on a salsa detour, this is where I was headed, but not where I landed: Salsa Couscous Chicken Recipe - Pillsbury.com
It’s quite good and easy.
“too much chopped bacon”? These words in this sequence fail to convey any meaning I can follow.
Salsa mixed with ground beef makes a decent meatloaf.
That’s brilliant. Maybe some breadcrumbs as well to get the texture right? I’m gonna make that with my son next time he visits; I bet he’d make that.
I’m still one of the few people that remebers cooked chocolate pudding … in the smmer wed eat it cold as normal in the winter wed eat it hot , and grandma would eat hers with a piece of cheddar dunked in …
I use a flame gun to make toast. It gives a nice browned crust in seconds, and in a thick slice of bread happens so quickly that barely any water evaporates and the inside is still moist and chewy.
In Anthony Bourdain’s cookbook, in the intro to his Caesar salad recipe, he has a whole paragraph about how chicken does not belong on a Caesar. Tonight I made a Caesar salad following his recipe, except I put chicken on it anyway. I’m a little worried he’s going to haunt me now.
I make my own McRibs at home by buying the Banquet “Family Sized” BBQ rib TV dinners for $3 (you get five patties), some cheap hoagie rolls, pre-sliced dill pickles, and some onions. To me and the people I serve it too it’s undistinguishable from an actual McRib. And since I love the McRib I’ll make it about once a month.
That. Sounds amazing. Liking McRibs is probably my deepest darkest secret.
My husband loves the McRib, and he has a lot of trouble finding “participating locations” during McRib season in this area. Once he’s awake enough, I’ll ask him if he wants to try this.
Yeah, a lot of people do that faux McRib with On-Cor rib patties, as well. Just whatever BBQ rib thingie you can find at your local grocer. Nothing shameful about it – it’s not like the McRib is something to be proud of to begin with.
I never found the right bread when I tried this. Any particular recommendations?
I really want to try this, but we can’t eat five patties at once. Most frozen foods IME come as a frozen blob of food. Can they be separated while still frozen?
You can but then you lose out on the sauce since the bbq sauce is frozen as well and it’s hard to separate. If you don’t mind it being less saucy yes you can separate them. Banquet does make a single patty “Backyard BBQ” meal with mashed potatoes and corn for about $1 to $1.50 if you don’t want to waste anything. You basically pay $1 to $2 more if you decide to buy the individual TV dinner patties rather than the Family Sized.
He and Michael Ruhlman had/have an (IMO) irrational hateration for chicken on Caesar salads. I don’t understand it a bit. Especially when he (Bourdain, that is) tells you to serve his bodega sandwiches with shitty coffee (though tongue in cheek of course to replicate the NYC bodega experience). No one loves shitty coffee; the chicken Caesar is popular for a reason, dammit!
We have Caesar Salads for dinner probably twice a month, always topped with chicken, always with anchovies on mine.
A caesar topped with grilled chicken thrown into a hummus-spread wrap is one of the most amazing summertime “not-so-heavy” foods in existence.
Capers, 'chovies, bacon, croutons, black olives, some jalapeno slices/banana pepper rings… Oh man, there goes my stomach!
Time to go thaw some chicken breasts!
I’ve been bingeing BBC cop shows. “Sausage rolls” keep getting mentioned as something that is et for “tea.” I looked up a recipe. Pastry dough wrapped around sausage. I’m on my third batch.
