Your Scars

Well, saucy, this is an interesting topic. Where do I start???

Several mystery ones on the top of my head
a nasty one at the very edge of my left eye, caused by a sharp corner on a counter top, acquired while spinning around on a bar stool at a restaurant when 3, really freaked my Mom out, lots and lots of blood.
a tiny one on my bottom lip, from my teeth going through my lip as a kid once when I fell
a horseshoe shaped scar on the inside of my upper lip, a present from a terrified horse, while helping out the Vet after school during a bad electrical storm ('72)
a small one under my chin, don’t remember what from
several small ones on both arms and my back, from removal of suspicious freckles and moles, checking for skin cancer ('79-'99)
the scars from the botched breast reduction I’d rather not talk about in much detail.('77, just out of high school) sigh.
two 2" scars on the left side of my abdomen from a fall into a stick village when 6yrs old
I have a few gazillion stretch marks from pregnancies, on my tummy, my arms, and legs
4 gallbladder scars, 1 on top of my bellybutton, and the other 3 on the right side of my abdomen ('97)
an appendectomy scar on my lower right side('80)
2 c-sections, basically 1 scar, bikini type('82,'85)
1 large scar that goes from my spine on the left side around to almost my bellybutton(last kidney surgery)and 3 drainage holes on my back (Oct '85)(also missing my left lowest rib too)
2 other scars, about 1" diameter, on lower left side of my back from other 2 attempts to get the kidney stones (Oct '85)
a small laparoscopy scar about mid abdomen
scar on left ring finger where my little brother came up behind and scared the bejeebers out of me while I was whittling a stick, almost lost the top of my finger('70)
a scar from 2nd to 3rd knuckle on right middle finger from removal of a cyst ('86)
scar approx 2.5" long on palm of right hand
from trigger finger release of pointer and middle fingers (Aug '99)
various assorted scars on both hands, who knows?
various assorted scars on both knees and legs, TNTM
8" scar on right knee from 1st surgery ('79)
1" scar on front of right knee from 2nd surgery to remove the screw ('84)
2 small scars one on either side of my right foot just above my heel from arthroscopic plantar fascia release surgery(for heel spur)('98)
scar approx 1.75" on bottom of left foot between heel and arch, plantar fascia release (heel spur)(Nov '99)
several small scars on my feet from general klutziness and a hatred of wearing shoes

That’s all I can think of for now. Probably more I’m forgetting.

My guardian angel really works a lot of overtime!!!

That’s my name, not a description. I am neither purple nor a bear. Okay, so I’m purple.<a true Wally original!>

Let’s see, I have. . .

  • Small scar on bottom of right foot, where I stepped on a rusty nail. I had a lot of encounters with rusty nails, since I grew up on a farm (if I had a nickname, it would be The Human Tetanus Shot). This was the nastiest. It went completely through the sole of my sneaker, and if I hadn’t realized something was wrong it would have cheerfully done the same for my foot.

  • A bunch of small scars on my left leg and ankle where I tangled (literally) with some barbed wire. It was rusty, of course (hey, doc, why don’t you just give me the whole friggin’ box of syringes and I’ll give myself the @#$% shots from now on).

  • A small but nasty scar on right knee from a crashing fall onto a Transformer toy (Megatron, if I remember correctly). This one actually exposed part of my kneecap. It also marked my sudden loss of interest in the whole Transformer business.

  • Scar on top and bottom of left index finger, just above the nail. Kids, no matter how cool it looks, you shouldn’t throw a piece of paper into the air and play “Edward Scissorhands cuts the living shit out of this piece of paper in midair.” Not unless you like bleeding.

  • Scars from wisdom teeth removals in my mouth. I had wisdom teeth from hell and they were impacted somewhere in the area of my sinuses and my earlobes. It probably didn’t help that I removed the stitches myself (this is never a good idea).

And that’s it for me. My aunt Paige, on the other hand, is a walking scar. She put her left arm through a window twice, set her pants on fire with gasoline, had major surgery on several occasions and got bit by a rottweiler. And that’s just what I can remember off the top of my head. . .

You need Degas to make De Van Gogh.

Scaramouch fandango.

A long (sternum to pubis - skirts the belly button) reminder of rupturing my liver on a bike handlebar. As a compliment to that there’s a 1" blob about 1" above the first rivet to the right on a pair of Wrangler jeans that was the liver drainage tube.

A tiny spot of scar from a 3rd degree burn in the small of my back. Right bicep and right elbow have small (3/4") scars (coarse stitching) from some quick and dirty transfusions.

Appendix scar runs from above the belt line at about the first belt loop on the same jeans referenced above down to the fold between leg and groin.

Hands and knees sport a variety of small mementos of childhood confrontations with cold, hard physical reality. Pockmark on my right cheek from a cyst burn-off. Left ankle bears a small scar similar to the transfusion scars that was the result of a heart catheter. The scars you get from double hernia and hydrocele operations about where you’d expect those scars to be.

Eyebrow scar from a bad night in the bars. And a small spot on my back that was a souvenier of a pleurisy driven lung drainage.

Did you really want to know all that?

I have a three and a half inch scar across the front of my head about an inch above my hairline.

It’s from running my 1977 Dodge Dart head-on into a wall at 35 mph. I wasn’t injured except for the split scalp, but I looked like had walked out of a Roger Corman movie.

The only one I have that’s really visible is on my right ring-finger knuckle, from when I cut myself badly with a knife I received last Christmas. (Yes, I cut myself on Christmas. I was trying to remove the wrapping.) For some reason, right now, it’s mauve.

Hmmmm,

  1. Disfigured toes on left foot from having 60lb speakers dropped on them, crushing the toes and requiring stitches.

  2. Small scar on right cheek from when I learned the important lesson, when trying to teach oneself how to knife fight, don’t use real knives.

  3. Curved scar over eye, masked by eyebrow, from having bedsprings fall on me while playing trampoline on them.

  4. Left middle finger, the closing car door is not your friend.

Hmmmm…Lessee…

HEAD:
Scar buried in right eyebrow from a nail, 3 yoa.
a 2 incher just inside hairline above left eye, from running into a TER block on the aircraft I was helping to recover.

HANDS/ARMS:
Both hands, scars too numerous to mention, from turning wrenches for many years; a couple in the process of healing from last weekend. Left arm, small circular scar, nickle sized, from mole removal. It wouldn’t be that big, but they removed the sutures too early. Right arm, upper. Burn mark from rototiller manifold.

Various mole removal scars on back.

Left upper thigh; Gouge scar from startled cat launching himself off my lap.

Knees: too many to mention, the result of general childhood klutziness.

Surgical scar in ahem delicate location.

That’s about it.

Patron Saint of All Things Hot and Firey …

I’ve performed a complete diagnosis of your car. It’s broken.

  • A Wally original!

Whoops, I forgot one. Not that I show it in public, and certainly not to YOU folks, but it’s there nevertheless: My vasectomy scar.

My hands have been through a shitload of business. Since I’m a rightie, the left hand has borne the brunt of it:

-scar on left thumb from whittling accident (the blood was all sticky and ropy, kinda cool)
-scars on back of hand from getting slammed in a door
-cool triangular scar on back of left pinky from gouging it on a bedpost
-Tip of right ring finger, slicing little bits of onion on a circular slicer with my bare hands. Very stupid.

Left and right inguinal hernia scars - left side is very sensitive, too… Mrs O loves tickling it

Nothing else that I can think of at present!

All I wanna do is to thank you, even though I don’t know who you are…

I’ll start at the top:

Small scar on my forehead from the corner of the coffee table.

Small scar on the inside of my lip from a childhood mishap.

Three inch scar on my right forearm from when I got my arm caught on the top of a chain link fence. It was not pretty.

A one in scar on my right forefinger where a elementary school classmate stabbed me with a pencil.

Two small scars on my right paly from when I fell off my bike while holding a pop bottle (back when they were glass).

A seven inch appendectomy scar (there’s absolutely no reason it should be that big – they let a resident cut me – I’m not terribly happy about that).

Three small dot scars on my left knee from arthroscopic surgery.

My entire right shin is one solid patch of scar tissue. I used to live in Guam where the soil has a high coral content and is quite abrasive. I slid into home plate wearing shorts. Big mistake. I had a scab for six months. I scraped off about 8 or 10 square inches.

Other assorted scars all over the body.

After skimming this thread I have come to a conclusion:

People with small children should not skim this thread.

Honestly, people. All I have is two chicken pox scars and an episiotomy (look it up.)

Oh, and that place where the cheese grater always gets me.

I won’t bore anyone by listing the plethora of scars I have–let me just say this: I was/still am incredibly clumsy and as a result made approximately 2 trips to the emergency room a month from the time I was about 6. I was there so often that eventually they called social services and tried to take me away from my parents because they thought I was being abused! One time when I was about 15, they took me into this little seperate room with a very kind lady and she kept saying to me, “It’s o.k. to tell me what REALLY happened…you’re not going to get into trouble…” and I kept telling her, “Lady, I really DID trip over my shoelace and crack my skull open. I’m really just that clumsy!”

I have since cut back the e/r visits to about once or twice a year. But that’s mostly because I know A LOT of first aid by now.
You might have guessed that I’m a riot at parties.

Almost every scar I have, I deserved.

Faint scar on back of left hand - This happened when I was 17 years old. Me and a few friends had stashed a case of Miller beer in the ditch that ran behind my friend’s horse pasture. We parked Mike’s old VW bug there and were sitting around smoking a doob when Traci’s parents pulled up to the barn (they weren’t supposed to be home for hours). The car was still running because we were listening to the stereo.

Jeff grabs the beer, runs to the trunk of the car and throws it in just as the rest of us haul ass to get inside so we can book.

Problem was that Mike’s old VW had the trunk in the front and the engine in the back. Glass and beer flew everywhere. Not only did we all get cut, we got our asses verbally beaten.

Scar on right foot - I kicked a diving board as I came down.

Scar below inside right ankle - I was horsing around doing soccer kicks in my bedroom when I accidentally kicked the corner of a stop sign I had stolen.

Small scars on hand - Me and my sister were dukin it out like we usually did (I was 17 and she was 15) when she got away from me, ran out the back door, in the front, locking me out. Then the little jerk smashed her face onto the big side window and flipped me off. Before I knew it, I punched her in the nose, through the glass. She ducked just in time but I cut my hand and had to pay for a new window AND got grounded from my car.

Small, round scar behind left knee - When I was 15 years old, I got hit by a car.

I had been grounded from my bike, forbidden to hang out with my best friend, and grounded to the house. The reason why is a whole other story.

I thought I was being sly when me and this best friend took off after school (still grounded), on my sister’s bike (mine was locked up), wearing my brother’s shirt (that I wasn’t supposed to be wearing), rode up to see some boys that I wasn’t supposed to hang out with (their mom worked for my dad so he heard all the rotten things they put her through).

We were dinkin off when I realized that I had 5 minutes to get home before my parents. We hauled ass trying to get home and I completely forgot to watch for cars and got hit. It bent my sister’s bike in half.

Damn good thing my parent’s were worried shitless when the cops called them to the accident scene. I didn’t get into big trouble until a week later and even then, they had cooled off quite a bit.

Scar on left thigh - Cut it while climbing a fence to sneak into the drive-in movie theater.

Okay…here goes:
1/2in. scar running off the end of right eyebrow. 4 or 5 yrs old (My sister and I were holding hands and spinning in circles in the living room, unfortunately she didn’t hear me announce I was letting go to get more popcorn and I was helplessly flung into the edge of our brick fireplace. unknown number of stitches…my sister thought the popcorn coming out of my mouth after the incident was me losing my marbles  [she was only 2 years older than me])

small gouge below left eye along with skin discolorations on entire cheek as a result of not eating anything and then standing around for hours in the sun (the pavement was nice enough to catch my face, and while my sunglasses left the gouge mark in my cheek, thankfully they didn’t shatter and gouge my eye–in other words I passed out and did nothing to stop my face plant into the cement :frowning: )

small C-shaped scar on the inside of the knuckle of the middle finger of my left hand. One should know where the end of the scissors being used by the right hand are going to close. The bleeding was made even more lovely by the fact our campus safety officers made me walk to their office instead of them coming to my room to clean it.

Both thumbprints are marred, one by the removal of a wart, other is an unknown burn scar.

I am sure I have numerous more on my scalp, as the bulk of my life has been spent receiving head traumas as a result of clutziness. :o

I have stretchmarks all over my love handles, sides of my chest, and the inward parts of my upper leg from the time where I was overweight. The marks are so big, they look like knife wounds.

I have many small scars on my right arm, from letting my cat chewing on my arm for 30 minutes straight.

like I said before, my hand is scarred from rosethorns, one on my arm from slipping down some stairs holding a pair of skis, a small scar on my calf from a burning woodchip (that one defaintly hurt the most), and a little ptch of scars on the back of each ankle due to bad shaving

on elbow - slid on pavement…running for snack time, one person fell, took down another, who shoved me…just like dominoes.

on feet - scrapped on bottom of pool in florida…looks like vampire bites in movies, two little round marks on each foot…stucco pool floors, interesting idea florida.

on back of hand but where hand meets arm - faint scar…can only see if turned a certain way…grandma’s curling iron was just so fascinating i thought pulling on the cord would be a hoot.

many others…new ones every hour…i’m a clutz and proud of it.

My list is not so impressive as some of y’alls:
Big ol’ burn scar on my left arm.
Curved scar on my right hand from a glass that burst while I was washing it.
Knee surgery scars; just an arthroscopy, so nothing too dramatic.
Various cat-inflicted injuries, including a deep one on my left arm from an encounter with two unleashed Schnauzers while I was carrying Enid The Grouch Cat. I discovered that I am capable of holding onto 15 pounds of screaming, struggling, utterly panicked cat, which is something, I guess.
And a right thumb that, while not scarred,
neither bends nor straightens completely after being jammed in a car door.

Catrandom

-Huge burn scar on my upper left arm from spilling coffee on myself when I was 18 months old. Considered getting plastic surgery for a while, but I’ve gotten kinda used to it, and I never wear tank tops anyway.

-Small oval scar on my left knee from getting a wart frozen off. Yippee.

-Large oval scar on my right knee from tripping over my own feet in new sandals. This one also has some nie nices from the gravel pavement on it. Yippee.

-two small matching scars on my feet from where my new sandals didn’t fit right and rubbed off the skin.

And neuro said this one best, so I’ll quote her:
