Because I’m following you, short stuff.
I was barefoot, but my feet were cold (why were my feet cold when I have a space heater going? I don’t know), so I pulled on some socks.
They’re black slipper socks, with little orange rubber thingies on the soles that theoretically keep me from sliding. (As I danced around the house last night in them, doing all sorts of spins and stuff, I find them just to be an aid in ankle spraining. I don’t dance in them any more.) There’s a big gray puppy-shaped yarn thingie attached to the front of each sock. Scary.
If I leave the house, I’ll put on my clogs. Birkenstocks. Black leather. I’ve had them for a year; they were a replacement for my felt clogs that broke just a few weeks after I got them-- the buckle came loose from the fabric. The store where I bought them was very nice and very apologetic (“We’ve never had that happen before!”) and immediately replaced them for me…unfortunately, they were out of the felt, so I had to get leather.
There’s gum stuck to the sole, along with cotton stuck to the gum because I couldn’t get it off and having my shoe stick to the ground every few steps was annoying.
I think these might be the only shoes I own that are a medium width. My feet are rather wide (and long…I got the worst of both my parents for my feet) and hard to fit…but my clogs are quite comfortable. My favorites. Need to get some sandals…
A pair of black size 9 Gore-Tex Karrimor hiking boots - I live in them. I wear them to work, socially, everything (even occasionally when i’m actually hiking ).
In fact the only time i DON’T wear them is when i’m at the gym. Then i wear a pair of Nikes that i bought five years ago from a Market Stall for £20.
Size 38 blue felt mule slippers made by inblu, “amici per i piedi![sup]®[/sup]”
Velcro strap over the instep with a metal inblu button; Bluflex[sup]©[/sup] semi-rigid soles; red, yellow and green braid around the edges; raised edge at the back of the heel. They are currently covered covered with cat hair and have bird seed and paint chips stuck to the soles.
I bought these from a street (bridge?) vendor in Venice, Italy, a few years ago for US$8. I wish I had bought more.
Right now, I’m wearing these.
Yes, they are comfier than they look. Yes, they look better on me than alone. Yes, I can walk just fine. And yes, that is a four and a half inch rise, which makes me just over 6’3" in them.
I am wearing size 6 black house shoes or slippers (take your pick for the name)
They have faux fur sewn along the ridge. They are UGLY!
I am not a fan of shoes… but the wood floors are cold and I hate socks even more! These are easy to just slip off when I feel like it.
I’m wearing Dr Scholl’s Airbag Sandals, in brown nubuck. Very comfy, I keep buying pair after pair. I suppose I’ll get another pair to keep at work too.
Jesus H. Christ!
I’ll second that. Ye GADS!
Right now, I’m wearing my Timberland boots. Love them. Comfy, and they last long. And warm, which can be a plus over here.
My favourite pair of shoes in terms of style are my ankle-high suede brown Van Bommel brogues. Super. Expensive, too, so I only wear them when I know it’s not gonna rain.
Right now I’m only wearing plain white socks… but there is a pair of moccasin-style slippers sitting nearby.
Plain white socks, that I got for Christmas from my folks.
Nobody ever accused me of good taste.
Currently my two delicate feet are naked except for the sparse growth of whispy hair over the metatarsal region. They’re very cold. I keep alternating between placing one atop the other for warmth. Periodically I flex my toes, popping them. If anybody cares, my feet are malformed and I had to wear braces when I was young. However, my feet, while noticeably abnormal to at least some medical professionals, aren’t so bad that I’m considered “deformed” or anything. I even got into the military, and survived all right, although I was in quite a bit of pain during the big basic training road march. Of course, part of that pain was due in part to causes other than just my tarsals and metatarsals not fitting together quite right. When I took my boots off after that Long Walk, they were full of blood. Since, those bloody boots have served me well all over the United States, and also in Central America. Currently they (the boots, not my feet) are in my closet, about ten feet from where I now sit.
Normally I wear a pair of scuffy New Balance (I think) tennis shoes with the rubber (?) inserts bent up and the backs partially broken down because I can only be bothered to untie my shoes before and after wear about half the time. I’ve also got some slippers that are too small, some dress shoes that are too big, and some flip~flop shower shoes which are waaay too moldy.
Whatever do you want to know about our shoes for?
Mine are a pair of New Balance cross trainers that have long outlived their usefullness AS cross trainers. The right one is far more worn out than the left one. Why, you ask? Well, because last summer while I spent 15 weeks on crutches after breaking my left ankle, the left shoe sat in my closet while I continued to wear the right one almost every day.
oh, and I’m not wearing any socks. They’re all in the laundry right now. ('course all of my underwear is too…)
why not?
besides, isn’t there an old addage somewhere about you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes they wear?
p.s.
Coldie doesn’t wear clogs?!
[balky]
get out of the country!
[/balky]
I used to have a pair of clogs when I was a kid, and I spent a lot of time on the farm where my best friend grew up. Does that count?
White athletic socks with off-white toes and heels. Right sock has a small hole where the ball of my foot rests. Left sock has a very worn area about an inch wide an two inches long where the ball of my foot rests. The left sock is folded over slightly and pushed down about halfway. The right sock is pulled all the way up my calf and the top of the sock is folded down.
Oh the mundanity!
Nike cross-trainers. Mostly dark blue.
White tube socks.
Blue Adidas Superstars with reflective yellow stripes, and fat blue laces.
