Your son has a mohawk, can we dye it?

Just got a phone call from my mother (with whom my youngest son is visiting for the day) - “Ian got a mohawk, is it ok if we dye it blue?” Now, it’s not like he’s vacationing with his grandparents, they live about 6 miles away, so it’s not going to grow back before he comes home.

She is my mother, so there’s probably a 60% chance that she’s just trying to get us wound up.

I did have to tell her “no” to the blue hair, the school is picky about such things (just in case she really did give him a mohawk)

Sounds like you’d have lots of entertaining stories on things your mom has done to wind you up. Care to share? Do you wind her up, too? Please update us when you find out whether your son *really *got a Mohawk.

Coolest grandparents ever!

I just freshened Michael’s mohawk Friday. Of course, he’s only 2. I give him a mohawk every few months as his mom (my daughter) is too lazy to maintain it in between times and sometimes his dad just shaves his head.

We’ve dyed it blue and purple. I don’t have any good pics right now. :frowning:

That’s funny, I just bought a tube of green dye for my youngest son. He told me when I took him in for a hair cut that ‘crazy hair day’ is sometimes this week. We’re going to have a good ol’ time with it.

I considered leaving it in until he goes back to his dad’s house, just for shits & grins. Of course, it may not be all that washable, so he could end up a slightly green-tinted boy anyway. Bwah!

Two years ago Charlie (6½ at the time) had a mohawk. We had both blue and red colored gel/paste to use for it to stick up. He looked awesome. Ever since, though, he’s been growing it out. Now it’s past his shoulders, shaggy…Kurt Cobain style. Kid knows what he wants to look like and I’m happy for him to go for it.

ok, MIL was pulling our chain. He just got his hair sprayed into a mohawk. Pics below.

Cool pics…but now I’m disappointed you didn’t say yes to blue.

That barely counts as spiking. You people obviously have very low mohawk standards.

WE didn’t do his mohawk. His Grandmother did and it isn’t colored because our school frowns at such stuff and he would’ve gotten sent home and I’d get a lecture from my boss about you know the rules! (yes I work in my kids’ school) My MIL isn’t a mohawk specialist, she just did it for fun. He can get one done right when he is 18 and is out of my house.

btw, I have a cold and I’m sick of it and I’m in a bad mood because my laptop won’t let me on the internet and it’s too early for me to be fully awake. I am sitting in my cold basement on my puter so I can get my daily dose of SD before work. Sorry

That’s not a mohawk mate, this is a mohawk.

Is that you, Bobo?

I wish! My mother let me have any kind of hairstyle I wanted, as long as it was above the collar and in no way unusual or capable of drawing any attention whatsoever.

I sent my son away on a mission trip last summer to New Orleans with shoulder length hair, and the night before they were due to head back I got a call asking if they could shave his head.
I guess the year before they did it to another kid and my son was up for it but the youth minister that went didn’t want to let the girls cut his hair without my permission because she knew I had just paid for his hair cut before they left.
He ended up with a mohawk, and it looked nice! He didn’t keep it up, but they are going back down there again this year so who knows what he will end up with.
I wish schools would slow down on some of that stuff. Kids could be doing worse things than dying their hair or piercing themselves.
It’s only a distraction for a few days until other students get used to it so what other excuses can there be? Unless of course you school is a private school with uniforms?

Where I come from, we call that a ‘fauxhawk.’

I had a 5 inch green mohawk in high scool, and then in community college I got a 4 inch blue one.

It’d be fun to do it again but work would seriously frown upon it and I’d probably have to shave it anyways.

These days all I can do to rebel hair wise is to grow a beard. So I did and now it’s 5 inches long nonstreched-out. It would be cool to dye it blue and then braid it.

Maybe when school is out he can get a mini-mohawk. I frequently call him “Captain BedHead”, so a shorter do might suit.

Mama don’t think so!
