It’s going to be a quiet dinner to celebrate my 26[sup]th[/sup] birthday. The only catch is, you either have to live in the area, or at least be able to get here by the 17[sup]th[/sup]. I know for sure that my brother will be there, and since I emailed my friends last night at about 1:30, I’m sure they’ll RSVP me in due time.
Details, you ask?
When: Tuesday, Sept. 17 @ 6:30-ish (Chinese time anywhere from 6:45 to 7; everyone’s late to everything, which is terrible, but that’s the way it is)
Where: Red Robin’s, Broadway/Oak location
Gifts and such not necessary; just the presence of people I love will be enough for me.
So if you want in, you’re more than welcome! Just RSVP in this thread, or via email/IM.
Disclaimer: “Chinese time” is in no way meant to be pejorative. It’s a joke that my friends and I have. And since we’re all Chinese, there’s nothing bigoted about it.
Happy Birthday. I won’t be near BC anytime soon but I thought that I would add that our term for “Chinese time” was J.S.T., or Jewish Standard Time, which also meant about 15 minutes late.
Patrick, I’ll have you know that you and my brother are the same age (though he’ll be 21 in November), and even he doesn’t make comments like that! Well… there is the recurring joke about how I’m older than the hills, but that’s another story entirely. So to that end…
gets her brother to chop him semi-viciously in the chest, then calls all their strong friends to administer retribution in the form of wrestling moves
If you see any strange flashing lights in the sky and if any of you are mysteriously abducted for a few hours and can’t remember what happened, that’ll be me.
It adds new meaning to the phrase “Many Happy Returns”.
We’re not traditional Chinese by any means… I’d say the majority of us are CBCs. (Canadian Born Chinese)
Oh my goodness! I thought you looked upon my brother… favorably… shall we say. At any rate, it’s not just HIS evil friends… they’re MY evil friends as well. So there.
So your birthday suit blinds people, does it? Hmm… I can think of a few good retorts to go with that, but won’t put them here.
Oh, and thanks for at least thinking about taking me up on my serious invitation, Scotti and rjk. (even though you don’t HAVE to… but I don’t throw these invites around like so much confetti) At least I won’t have to introduce you to our friends as, “This is… um, er… never got your name… ?”
Okay, with less than 48 hours to go, my brother has thrown a curveball into the plans. I was talking to him on MSN earlier, and he mentioned that he wouldn’t be able to make it till after 9, so he wanted me to see what I could about delaying everything by at least an hour. I told him I’d see what I could do, so have been busy emailing people and stuff.
He’d mentioned the UBC function he was playing at before, but thought he might be able to make it for the first part of the dinner. Turns out he can’t. So he wants to make everyone stick around till at least 9 or so. Knowing him, he wants to say hi to everyone and burn me in particular. (and our friend Nathan, but I won’t get into that)
So 7:30 is the new start time. It gives Scotti more time to cross the border, and probably gives everyone else (including rjk) a chance to have more time to get ready. If by chance people don’t get the email till later or whatever, I’ll be there at aound 6:45-ish, myself. (depending on transit) So don’t worry… I’ll be there. Maybe later than 6:30, but I will be there. So don’t get too fashed! :)O
By the way, I will definitely talk more than either Scotti or rjk have heard me. That is a promise. (hey, I’ve got friends to talk to, people to make fun of… might even make a speech!)
