You're getting over a bout of food poisoning .. What do you want to eat now?

No poll, open-ended. Just wondering what folks here would want as their first tentative foray back into the realm of solid food.

A bowl of Rice Krispies in milk.

Pea soup or mac and cheese. Soft and comforting.

Scrambled eggs and dry toast

That one is easy, for me. I suffered a very bad case of food poisoning that had me on the ropes for three full days. I was on the cusp of having someone take me to the hospital when it finally released its grip. I made my way to the fridge to see what might be possible, and there was a cantaloupe. A perfect cantaloupe. I’ve never tasted anything so ambrosial in my life before or since – must have had a lot of nutrients in it I was missing.

I ate the whole thing.

For me it’s more psychological than practical. IOW the only thing I don’t want to ever eat again is whatever it was that (I think) made me sick!

After picking up a nasty virus that had me spend a night explosively voiding everything in my system from both ends I got introduced to the BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast. Well first I got introduced to a lot of fluids to drink and two IV bags. Then I slept. Then I thought about eating something.

Grilled cheese sandwich

Chicken noodle soup

A giant salad smothered in buttermilk ranch dressing. Complete with lot of deli meats, cheeses, and shredded carrots. Oh, and don’t forget the croutons, gotta have the croutons.

An apple (Golden, Reineta, Fuji or Granny Smith - raw please*).

  • several of my relatives insist on compotes.

How timely. All day yesterday I had the runs.

***** TMI WARNING ****

I mean I was peeing out my ass all day long: every hour or so.

At about 8:00 at night I had a can of mushroom soup, which was very comforting but still didn’t alleviate any symptoms. Even this morning I was still, well, you know.

My usual go-to is boiled eggs and toast, but I really didn’t feel like that so I made a home-made slice of pizza with plenty of cheese and veggies. That went down well, and then I went golfing and hoped like hell I wouldn’t have an emergency on the course; I didn’t.

Chicken noodle, or other brothy type soups are also a go-to for me.

I seem to be OK now and have no idea what the hell caused that in the first place. The only other two times I’ve had it that bad was undoubtedly Norovirus where it was coming out both ends. This time it was just one.

You’re welcome.

Toast and vegemite.

Bread and bananas.

Me too and probably millions more.

Poached eggs on dry toast. Protein, carbs, easy on the tummy, always good for whatever ails you!

Mashed potatoes.

After the last time I ended up eating some crab by mistake I just nibbled something easy to digest. Bread or toast I think. It took a while to get all the poison out of my system and be interested in eating anything, I ate because I knew I need to.

Same thing when I went off of oxycodone for pain. I took a long time before eating anything because I was hungry I eat because I knew I need to.

Nothing. I usually have to force myself to eat after I’ve been sick for a while, which, fortunately, rarely happens. I end up not eating for waaaayyy too long, until I’m starving and would eat pretty much anything.

So, maybe the answer should be “anything.”

I’m with InterestingTwist. Chicken noodle soup.
