You're home in very comfy clothes. Do you change before going to the stores?

I chose “Let me explain - it depends,” but I like the answer “Usually I’ll change - depends on my mood,” because it’s so close to the answer I wanted to select: “Usually I’ll change - depends on my destination.”

If the store I’m headed to is a hardware store, parts store, home improvement store, or anything of that ilk; then I won’t bother changing. Otherwise I’d probably ‘freshen up a bit’.

Interesting the number of posters who express an aversion the wearing sweats to the store. If they’re clean, and the right size for the wearer, what’s the big deal?

Let me explain…

If I am in my usual “very comfy clothes for sitting around” then I am in my pajamas. I will not go to the store in my pajamas - I am not a cute teenage girl.

If I am in my “very comfy clothes for doing housework” then I am in shorts and a tank. If I have to run to the store I will probably throw on a sweatshirt and go as-is. If it’s under 40 degrees I would put on long pants. But underneath I am still all Very Comfy Clothes.

That’s definitely one of the points of an abaya, yes. They cover you well enough you can’t make out any curves, or clothes underneath. Some women have let on they go out in just a bra and knickers, or pjs, or whatever they feel most comfortable in. I can’t blame them, I tried a girlfriend’s one on - on a dirty weekend in Bahrain - and it was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever worn (and the only women’s clothing, that’s not my bag).

My “comfy clothes” are what I wear everyday. Probably helps explain the number of times people ask me if they can speak with the owner. Works for me, though; I don’t see cold-callers. “Sure, I’ll go get him.”

Depends on whether I’m just going to the post office, or somewhere fancy like Wal-Mart.

I don’t wear sweats or pajamas. Never found either comfortable at any point in my life. If I’m dressed, I’m dressed. For the most part. Biggest consideration is whether to shower and/or wear shoes.

I don’t get the idea of clothes that aren’t fit to go outside in. What are these “comfy” clothes people keep referring to that aren’t fit for public use? I don’t own any non-comfy clothes, and nobody here is talking about routinely going out in top hat & tails. So what *are *they talking about? Color me mystified.

I get up, get clean, put on clothes & go about my day, in or out. They’re nice enough for public, and appropriate to the climate. Beyond that, job clothes are for the job, gym clothes are for the gym, and beach clothes are for the beach.

I have some slop about clothes with holes in them that I would never wear out for any reason, but if if I’m just dressed in yoga pants or sweat pants and a tee shirt, I’ll wear that out if I’m just running out to pick up one or two items. I’ll usually change to jeans at least for a longer trip, just so I’ll have pockets.

Assuming that I had some existing reason to be in attendance at a shopping precinct I would be dressed in a manner suitable for the activity. Jeeves would certainly have laid out an appropriate outfit in the morning.

If the urge to shop was only due to an urgent or whimsical urge to acquire something, possibly a comestible product, well we can leave that aspect of living to the servants surely?

It depends on the condition of my “comfy” clothes and what stores I will be going to.

My bumming-around-the-house clothes are suitable for going out in public. Comfy T-shirt in good shape with no holes or rips and jeans shorts (hemmed, not cut-offs). So no, I don’t bother to change before I go out.

I’m a swimming teacher and work 6 days a week, I am always in a swim suit. It’s the end of summer here (Australia) so after work I put a towel around me and head home to shower and change, I have no problem popping into subway or 7-Eleven (un)dressed like that. If I have to go to the super market on my way home from work I will put on a track suit and get my things with my hair still wet. If I am going “proper shopping” I will probably wear jeans and a top. I have too many things that are more important to me that caring what a fellow shopper thinks of my attire.

I’ve decided the one and only place it’s okay to go out in public in your PJs is, the donut shop. As long as it’s before 7am.

PJs or sweats, never, but I have been known to go to Home Depot in raggedy, dirty clothes if I’m in the middle of some project and I need to run there for a part or something.

I figure that’s allowed.
mmm

My especially comfy garb around the house is pjs in the winter and underwear in the summer, so no, I don’t go out in that. The next step up is loose slacks/shorts and a t-shirt, and yes, I go shopping like that all the time.

For me, “comfortable clothes” are sweats or pajamas, while “regular” clothes are jeans and sweaters or t-shirts. So it’s all relative, but… yes, I will put on jeans instead of sweatpants before I leave home.

I tend to wear jeans and a t-shirt at home… that’s as casual as I get if I’m not actually in bed. So yeah, I’d happily go to the store in my comfortable clothes.

Hell, no. I have no interest in looking good in clothes. If it’s okay for the house, it’s okay for outside. I’m wearing black sweatpants, Tshirt and sweatshirt right now.

Always. I’m a semi-nudist when at home, so I have to put on some clothes to leave the house.

And I try to be presentable (even if just running to the corner store for dog food or whatever) because I guarantee you that I will run into somebody that knows me.
