Just an example.
While not commenting on this specific news story, because the account is too minimal for me to form an opinion on, I will say this:
I just don’t understand people who insist on making a pejorative out of a neutral fact. Black. White. Tall. Male. Blue-eyed. Gay. Curly-haired. Fat. Skinny. It’s dumb. I say, if you must insult somebody, insult some bad quality that is a deliberate choice on their part, or a genuinely unpleasant character flaw. (Selfish. Boastful. Arrogant. Cruel.) Or stuff like bad taste in clothing, that’s fair too I guess. But really, doesn’t your average person have much better things to do than pick on people anyway? If you don’t, ur doing it rong.
Reminds me of the time my little boy came home from school and told me somebody called him a bastard. (I’m a single mother.) He asked me what it meant, and I said, “It’s somebody whose parents aren’t married.” He said, “Oh. What’s wrong with that?”
You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.
What’s wrong with that? The song IS about me.
Using the word “You” in a statement to someone and saying something negative is a no no for mental health. It makes people feel bad about themselves and can be psychologically damaging.
I do not hang around or listen to people who talk to me in such a manner. Actually I have walked away from such people in mid-sentence. They just stand there with their mouth hanging open. I have no respect for people who are out to destroy other people and I do not want to associate with them.
There are people who build and fix things. And there are people who wreck and destroy things.
I will talk all day with someone who uses the word “You” along with positive statements (a builder/fixer).
A co-worker once said “I’m so stupid.” I said “No, you’re not. You did a stupid thing, but that makes you human.”
Criticize the act. Do I do stupid things? You betcha. Am I stupid person? Absolutely not.
You’re so good in bed, you big stud!
Yes, that is the idea!
Makes me feel good to hear such comments.
Is it just me, or did the person in the link take that comment a little too seriously? It was supposed to be a joke. If you don’t like the joke, come up with a snappy comeback or something and share some laughter!
