Dude, this little rant just shows you don’t know anything about black metal or Gaahl. Please, don’t talk shit about anything you don’t know about.
What’re you gonna do, find their zombiefied internet corpses and bleed them into a cup or something scary like that?
Please note, that by resurrecting this thread, all you’ve accomplished is that now many other people, who would otherwise have passed this graveyard thread in blissful ignorance, now know that some freak named Gaahl in Norway goes around torturing people in his yard with a chalice.
I fail to see how exactly that manages to prevent people from “talking shit.”
Also, if people stopped talking about shit they don’t know, the Internet would come crashing down.
Which I guess would be a bad thing.
Well, it would free up my time for looks around looks out window looks under desk uh, something.
So this is how this website “fight ignorance”, with ignorant people who obviously try to reassure themselves, with some “facts” taken from the Internet.
it’s not a problem if I “revive” an old post. What is on the web stays and is still “alive”, and what I found tonight is just absurd.
I see that the ‘en vogue’ saying lately, is to whine “they take themselves too seriously in that band!”. I am sorry if you have been used to the fake theatrical bozos in the “Hollywood mainstream”. I am sorry if something you cannot understand overwhelms you so much, that you need to go to a forum, and seek validation in order to reassure yourself.
Art is like nature itself. You can encounter the “light side”, and the “dark side”, and for the sake of art itself, I am saying that if you just cannot take that “dark side”, well, just listen to something else of your choice, matching with your need to feel and enjoy. it’s ok, music is not a cult, it’s not a place where dogma should exist, and the individual express what is needed for him/her. I am not going to say, while reading biographies, that Beethoven was taking himself too seriously. Nor Diamanda Gala, nor Van Gogh.
it happens, and I don’t care if any user will doubt what I am going to say, that ‘Gaahl’ was belonging to my acquaintances. I am not here to defend the man, talking about his past and so on. But I decided to come here in order to say one thing: you will never know a person’s personality thanks to the Internet. This sounds like Captain Obvious just wrote that, but apparently I see that many people still cannot get the obvious.
“he offers nothing in its stead. Just sophomoric fist-shaking and moaning. He has no sophisticated philosophy to offer in place of the oppressive “Right-Hand Path” religions. He’s just a reactionary. Not a visionary. An adult adolescent, who really didn’t grasp the fact that Ozzy and Slayer and Alice Cooper were JOKING”
So 2 things here. When he started to make that music, there was no geek acting like cry babies, and complaining about it, speaking like blasé people because they saw too much things who obviously don’t belong to their world. the Internet wasn’t around.
Then, this is again hilarious that you insist, thinking you have a valid point. “I am telling you! They were JUST JOKING”. No one above cited were joking at all. Slayer had their occult time, but they were expressing something they felt. Alice Cooper had enough of crazy journeys to don’t speak about them, making a theatrical and symbolic art with all he survived ( and I feel that I need to add this: no, I am not speaking about Satanism, at all). And same about Ozzy. Go ask them if they were joking during the darkest moment of their life.
Beside the “big lines” en vogue lately, it doesn’t interest the people to know that Gaahl has an incredible intelligence, speaking with him could make many feel that they never open a single book (me the first). Very polite, has manners, and live according to what is true to him, without fear to be judged. So if it has to be defined as “he takes what he does too seriously”, well, be it then. I didn’t know that now everyone had to express something deep, and then fart loudly in order to show that “hey, don’t be afraid, I’m just like you…ya know…”. What he express is indeed a reation, led by a conviction. But I don’t see why he should OFFER something. And about the “adult adolescent” comment, well, this is Rock’n Roll buddy. Go say this to Lemmy, and then remember what he will tell you when you’ll whine that he doesn’t offer you anything else than music.
But this said, I still wouldn’t walk miles in the mountains to his house, far from everything, knock at his door and mess with him. Disrespecting someone you don’t have common points with is stupid, the world is big, find your “pack”. I’m not going to meet a gang of Yakuza saying how much they suck to act like that :smack: . Sometimes, it is good to meet someone in the real life, and many times it is different than what is behind the imagery, and over everything else, this Internet.
A double zombie, revived in 2011, only to rise again in 2013.
hehe, his real name is Kristian. That’s so cute!
Maybe there is something to this Death Metal after all…
To be honest, I have my doubts about whether or not Gaahl’s homosexual admissions are genuine. Within the genre of National Socialist Black Metal, nothing is more heinous than being gay – it’s right up there with being black, or Jewish. So this could all be a ploy by Gaahl to demonstrate how eeeeevil he really is…you know, as a marketing stunt to set himself apart from the crowd.
As for Varg Vikernes…well, let’s just say that I can put up with the murders, the church burnings, even the neo-Nazism bullshit. However, there’s no excuse for the horrible synthesizer music he recorded while in prison – that stuff was a crime against nature!!!
So, excited about starting high school in the fall?
Black metal. More Satan. More high notes. More øs.
Homophobia seemed to be a thing in the scene, at least at one time. Off the top of my head, Faust went to jail for killing a gay man. And just to be certain: anti-gay or racist lyrics and actions are not typical or a hallmark.
They also burn down those stave churches. A pity, because no matter how much you think you’re a Satanist, those things are very old and very pretty.
There is the documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. Black metal is only a small part of it, but people felt the director misrepresented the scene, so he made a mini sequel just covering black metal (2nd DVD disc). In one of those, he interviews Gaahl. He gets one word answers in response, it’s kind of funny.
