I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it after the first few crashes.

Canada. It seems very similar to Australia in terms of attitude, or maybe even closer to my way of thinking than Oz is.
Next choice would be the US, in LA. I like warm, relatively flat landscapes, and I think I’d survive quite easily there.
Scotland. Up in the highlands.
Second choice (assuming some time to learn the languages): Switzerland. Near Lake Lucerne.
Third choice: Canada. Somewhere in the Rockies.
There are some other countries that interest me, but I wouldn’t commit without visiting them first.
Canada, probably somewhere in B.C.
Because I could still do all the outdoor sports I like to do and Canadians are good people. Going north or northwest out of Montana into Canada is like going to visit your cousins.
Whistlepig
I guess Canada—it’s like “America Lite™.” (Or supermarket-brand America)
Plus, I only speak english, I don’t like hot climates, and I don’t want to have to convert all my VHS tapes to PAL or DVD if my VCR dies.
That, and I’d like a) a remote wilderness area to escape to and b) at least the chance to be able to procure a firearm, if and when shit really starts going down. (Zombies rise up, Martians invade, I have a mental breakdown, whatever.)
Unless…do unrecognized micronations count?
Britain, been there done that and loved it.
Maybe Greece, a very very cool place.
Alas the real answer would probably be Oz, it is what Kiwis do.
I think that I’d pick Canada (I have a LOT of Canadian relatives), and I could live either in British Columbia or in Saskatchewan.
First choice would probably be Canada since I’m from there originally and all of my relatives outside my parents and siblings live there. Probably Windsor (my hometown) but maybe Toronto, I have lots of relatives in both cities.
Second choice would be China, since my wife is from there and all of her family lives there. Beijing, most likely. Big and lots for a foreigner to do, and only an hour by train to my wife’s home town of Tianjin.
The U.S., with Australia as backup.
I’d get Spanish nationality, and go live on the Canary Islands. Great place to live, judging by my 2 week holiday on Lanzarote. Lovely warm sun, without being oppressively hot. Occasional gentle rain to break the heat. Nice scenery. Good local wine. Great beaches. Low pollution - most of their power comes from wind farms or geothermic. And they mostly speak English, so I won’t have to bother learning a forreign language.
mhendo, you lucky person - how’d you manage that wonderful double citizenship combo?
I can’t imagine what it would take to have Canada kick me out, but I’ll play along … for me, there are 3 countries all neck-in-neck: USA, UK and Australia. Financially, I would be smarter to pick the US, given my job and how much better it pays in the land of the free. Not to mention my husband’s relatives and my immediate family live in Quebec, so they would at least be able to come and visit us relatively easily if they chose to. Being the sole income earner in our household, and having a son who should not be deprived of contact with his grandparents etc. , I would let these issues push me to the ‘smart’ choice.
On the other hand, I think I would enjoy living in the UK tremendously, and the EU membership would be worth a lot to me. Also, being able to take weekend trips to major cities in Europe and having so many wonderful destinations in easy reach for holidays- whoa!
Australia would be a terrific choice too, and my husband would probably try to push me to go there. Skip probably, I know he would - just like he moped for what seemed like months after our first visit there, wishing we could go live there …
Lets see, I have dual Canadian and UK citizenship, but I currently reside in the US so I would continue to stay here with my husband. I’m in the process of getting my greencard so I’m not a US citizen yet. If I got kicked out of here, I’d go to Australia. It seems a lot like where I live now, and my sister lives there and they speak English. Although with my UK citizenship, I think I could work in any EU country, so those would be other options.
Canada would be my first choice. I’d want to live in Toronto - I’ve heard so many good things about the city. Heck, I’m keen on moving there anyway, eventually. If they let me in.
Second choice would be an EU country. My head says the UK, because it would be easiest to settle down in - London is a marvellous city, and . My heart says Spain though, and specifically Barcelona.
A toss-up between Australia and Ireland, I think. I’ve got family in both places, and they’re both similar to NZ in a lot of ways, from what I’ve read.
Either that, or throw caution to the wind, and go live in Costa Rica. Language barrier, schmanguage barrier!
Australia (probably Tasmania) or New Zealand (South Island). Both times I’ve visitied, I’ve just gotten a general feeling of comfort/well-being. The people have been friendly, and there’s so much natural beauty within easy reach. There’s a lot of development going on, but strip malls and big box stores haven’t taken over…yet.
I need a clarification on the rules. I’d like to move to Sweden for a number of reasons, but my lovely toddler is a dual citizen. If she can’t come with me, I guess I’ll try Finland in a Swedish-speaking area. England might be good too. I have a friend who’s a police officer there, so he can save me from this problem in the future.
If language was not an issue and if they have my field of work, I think I’d like Iceland. It is mindblowingly beautiful. Plus I have a major girl-crush on Björk.
