zapped by norton anti-virus...

why me?
i recently bought a new hand built computer (named elvis) am running xp. had it networked to my other computer a compaq 5000 running Me. today the network stopped working. i went to the compaq and it had an error message “navapw 32 has a problem in msvcrt.dll and will now close.” no programs would work.
the compaq was connected to elvis and elvis was connected to the internet. according to info on the error message it says norton, through it’s live update, caused the problem. it wants me to get into the registry to fix it.

question:
how the hell did it screw up the compaq when it had to go through elvis to do it? is the registry problem in elvis or the compaq (elvis is running fine)?
what will prevent this in the future?

i only have one monitor and plugging it in and out of two machines is driving me nuts. that is why i was running everything through elvis.
