Having been on the receiving end of Polycarp’s nastiness at least once, I don’t hold him up as some paragon of board virtues.
That said, Zhen’ka’s comments seem out of line. Not that I’m going to read the whole thread to double check.
Just curious, jsgoddess – anything you feel appropriate to bring back up? I don’t claim to be perfect – I insulted Sarahfeena nastily once for no reason other than I was under the weather and irritable. If we can sort it out to your satisfaction, I’d like that.
Mostly, I just like to see the Pit used to hash out conflicts instead of people going to the mods or making snippy asides, although I will say it’s also a nice diversion from the “my pen ran out of ink!!” tedium that’s been dominating it of late.
Not everybody is going to like your friends. And not everybody is going to like you. He thinks you and your friend are full of shit. Since you don’t know each other at all, neither of you knows for certain how full of shit the other is. Should he not have said anything because he doesn’t know either you or your pal? Or because, you know, everyone on the boards knows Polycarp doesn’t lie?
I suppose the last question was not so much directed at the OP as it was the subsequent love-fest.

I’m one of those that can’t stand Lib (after his behavior over at one of the splinter boards), but really, I can’t ever say that Polycarp has ever been anything other than friendly and honest here. He’s not perfect, as in, let’s not slobber all over the guy. But I’ve met him at least once, and he’s just as nice in person as he is here.
I don’t think you’d have to pay him to stick up for a friend.
Yep. Insult me all you want. But leave Poly the fuck out of it. He’s done more for me than I have for him, frankly, just by his example. I’m a pile of shit; but Poly’s a nugget of gold. And I’m not only grateful, but honored that he would vouch for me. That’s all I have to say about that.

If your distaste is based on something you could easily provide a citation for but choose not to, referencing that occurrence makes you look like a douche. If you don’t like Polycarp, just say so, but don’t bring up some imaginary slight from three years ago.

I don’t think Polycarp is a particularly great guy yet I still think the post cited in the OP was not reasonable. My interest in demonstrating why I don’t think Polycarp is a particularly great guy is pretty much nonexistent. Your weird hyperdefensiveness doesn’t make my interest stronger.
I can very much respect that. It’s just that I wasn’t aware of any real issues between us – we disagree on a few things, agree on a bunch more, and I didn’t think there was any problem. If you want it resolved, I’m willing – down to offering an apology for an offensive remark from years back, if that’s what it was. If you merely want to let it lie, that’s fine too.
I’m just curious what about hanging out with Liberal allows Polycarp to “vouch” for his father’s heritage? It puts me in the mind of that pre-Iraq invasion dialogue here where one poster said “It’s super secret, but I’ve seen the proof of Saddam’s danger” and then another poster vouched for him.Turned out to be all crap, of course. Anyone remember who that was?
