So here it goes. It’s really easy, so don’t worry about getting it wrong- you probably can’t.
Which is better, “Cheers” or it’s spin-off, “Frasier”?
Who’s your favorite character on each show?
And if you want, you can have a favorite episode.
Okay, IMHO, “Frasier” is the better show. On “Cheers,” my favorite character was Frasier. On “frasier,” my fave character is…um, well, Frasier. And my fave episode of “Cheers” was the Othello episode. My fave episodes of “Frasier” are probably the Whine Club one, and the one where Martin has to pretend to be gay.
So come one, come all, contribute to the poll!
Definitely Frasier.
I didn’t have a favourite character on Cheers really.
My favourite on Frasier is Niles.
No favourite episodes, either…I don’t watch them enough. But while I can take or leave Cheers, if I see Frasier when I’m channel-surfing, I’ll stop and watch it.
Favorite show, Frasier (though I love Cheers too). Favorite character on Cheers, Frasier, Woody, Coach. And, Cliffy. (No, really. He was just so pathetic.)
Favorite character on Frasier is, no doubt about it, Niles.
First vote for “Cheers” here. Favorite characters: Woody and (say it with me) NORM!
“Frasier” is OK in small doses, I suppose. The whole show just seems whiney to me. Maybe I’m watching the wrong episodes.

Another vote for Frasier. My favorite is Niles, followed by anybody but Eddie.
On Cheers, my favorite is Cliff. Just the look everyone gets on their faces the minute he opens his mouth… priceless.
Favorite show: Cheers
Fave Cheers char.: Frasier
Fave Frasier char.: Niles
Fave Cheers ep: Tough call, but probably one of the Cheers v Gary’s bar contests
Fave Frasier ep: The ep where the new station manager is gay and everyone knows except Frasier. Some of the funiest dialog on the show.
I enjoy both programs, although I’d have to say “Cheers” had a little more variety to it. Most episodes of “Frasier” seem to revolve around Frasier getting himself sanctimoniously embroiled in someone else’s affairs and then bumbling around in them. The characters on “Cheers” were from various backgrounds and invited a more diverse array of plotlines.
The dialogue in “Frasier” is superior though. And Peri Gilpin is a hottie.
Niles and Daphne’s courting was more entertaining to me than was Sam and Diane’s. And Frasier and Lilith still continue on in the current series, so we have the best in both worlds there.
Bebe Neuwith is a hottie too.
And I like Eddie…a bit overused in early episodes, but is featured a little more judiciously nowadays.
Of limited viewing, I’d say “Frasier” wins. Primarily because one of the first episodes I ever saw was a Christmas episode where he was trying desperately to hide all the Xmas trappings about the house on emergency notice (he was pretending to be jewish or somesuch because of wacky girl problems). About the point where his brother shows up, in full Jesus costume, was the hardest I’d laughed at any tv comedy for ages.
True and true. But so was Kirstie Alley, and Shelley Long was no slouch either, so by that criteria I think Cheers wins.
Cheers was better, because all the characters (at some level) actually understood how pathetic they were, and were comfortable with it. NORM rules.
Frasier is about bursting another pomposity bubble just about every week. Don’t Frasier or Niles ever learn?
“Frasier” is one of my all-time fave shows, so I gotta vote for it in this case. My favorite character is definately Niles, and my fave episode would have to be the one in which Marty has to pretend to be gay. Hilarious!
Of course, “Cheers” was also great, Frasier was my fave character on that one, and the episode where Lilith and Frasier first meet on the talk show was my favorite episode.
