ZOMBIE THREADSPOTTING: Bacon Salt

This morning for breakfast, I used Bacon Salt to season a four-egg omelette containing pecorino, caramelized shallot, and prosciutto.

Tomorrow, I’m trying Eggs Benedict with Bacon Salt hollandaise.

The more I work with it, the more I like it. I’m getting a handle on the right ways to use it, what it’s good with, and how best to bring out its strengths. I’ve used a lot in the last few days, and I’m not tired of it yet; I keep finding new applications. That’s a good sign, I think.

I’m going to Alaska in a few weeks to fish salmon in the Copper River, and Bacon Salt will be in my luggage. My fishing companions, I expect, will be very appreciative.

So has anyone tried this on Wendy’s Bacinator burger?

If my count is correct from Wallet’s post, we are now up to 29 orders, with mine being the last.

I await with thoughts of fried eggs with pepper bacon salt chasing cottage cheese with hickory bacon salt.

I ordered it.

Mine makes 31.

Can’t wait to sprinkle some on the corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini that the neighbors keep bringing me.

This? Delicious.

Details:

Since I had to separate out the yolks for the hollandaise, I had egg whites, which I used to make a savory mock-angel-food-style bread cake thingie to replace the English muffin; Bacon Salt was incorporated with the flour. The eggs were cooked with a poaching cup in a steamer, sprinkled with Bacon Salt. This, plus spinach, caramelized shallots, tomato, and Bacon Salt hollandaise… amazing.

I finally got shipping notification!
::: goes and checks mailbox:::
Nope, not here yet.

So did I! 2-3 days and Jayjay and I will have salty bacony goodness here!

I guess you could count me in as a sale. I’m a sneaky, cheap bastard though. Based on this thread, I sent a link to my best friend, the Woman-Who-Will-Order-Anything. If she likes it, she’ll send me some in a care package.

So I am responsible for at least one sale, probably two, if she likes it. If she doesn’t like it, I’ll still get hers in a care package (I get lots of care packages from her - she’s working on some home-grown & canned deli pickles right now), so it’s still one sale at least.

I just wanted to say thank you for this link. When I clicked it and read about bacon ice cream, I was intrigued. Knowing I would be visiting Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, I actively looked for it. Happy to report I ate it, and did not go into cardiac arrest. Yum!

The Rykid discovered that putting Bacon Salt on multigrain bread is actually pretty good.

Yep just Bacon Salt and bread–nothing else.

He’s right, too.

Stuff is amazing.

This stuff better be good…

I just checked my email and it appears I have placed TWO orders for the bacon salt trifecta. The first time I placed the order, PayPal locked up so I proceeded to complete the order again.

Who does this? [austin powers]Honestly![/austin powers]

When are we going to see you on some televised super-chef show?

I appear to be easily swayed by peer pressure.

And bacon.

To be truthful, I was surprised it came out as good as it did. Mostly I tried it because I had the egg whites left over after separating the yolks, and I don’t like wasting food when I cook, so I looked at a couple of recipes for angel food cake and gave it a shot. And now we can add “make bread with it” to the list of applications for this magical mystical ingredient.

I am a simple man who seeks simple pleasures. I’m unable to replicate any of the wonderful things that Cervaise has put together because I’m barely able to boil water. However, I will say that I bought some cheese fries from my favorite burger establishment yesterday, along with a side of ranch dressing. And my brilliant wife suggested we put the bacon salt in with the ranch and proceed to dip. So…SO very good.

We have friends who have birthdays and such coming up. There is bacon salt in their future, whether they know it or not.

I am sorry to report that I have found one thing that bacon salt does not improve. I was having a relaxing breakfast of scrambled eggs (with Bacon Salt), some toast with peanut butter (and Bacon Salt - incredibly good, by the way), and some watermelon (with Bacon Salt - interesting), I decided to make a Bloody Mary with some of the Peppered Bacon Salt. Sadly, the result was simply not good.

I am willing to admit it may be my Bloody Mary recipe that is at fault. I was out of horseradish, and had to make do with Tobasco, Worcestershire Sauce, tomato juice, vodka, and Peppered Bacon Salt. Perhaps our resident Bacon Salt chef (that’s you, Cervaise) can fix my recipe? It seems like it should be good, but it really wasn’t. The bacon flavor just seemed out of place.

I feel like this needs saying again, because I don’t think anyone else has mentioned it: Bacon Salt and peanut butter toast is really, really good. And easy.

It isn’t a proper Bloody Mary without horseradish. Without it, the balance is all off. No wonder the BaconSalt didn’t work.

Bloody Mary
Vodka (Absolut Peppar is quite nice)
V8 juice
Worchestershire sauce
Crystal sauce
horseradish
fresh squeezed lime juice
freshly cracked pepper
BaconSalt

Proportions to fit the imbiber. No ingredient may be left out!

I’m off to America for a frenzy of not-available-in-Canada shopping and Bacon Salt is on my grocery list. The kind of stocking stuffer my family was born to.

Woo Hoo! Just received my Bacon Salt (three-pack!) I opened the original variety and threw it on some celery, just to check out the taste. Excellent! I’m going to add some to the baked beans and meatloaf I’m making for supper. I predict that I will be using it for every meal. I’m also looking forward to trying it in my next Bloody Mary. I enjoy putting a couple of drops of liquid smoke in, so I’m sure I’ll love the bacon salt!
