ZOMBIE THREADSPOTTING: Bacon Salt

I mentioned that I did this back in post #358, but I forgot to post results. :smack:
Bacon and avocado, are there any two flavors that go better together?
It was great. Like eating a bacon & avocado burger sans the beef.

They certainly do mate.

20 ciggies cost around £4.50 unless you buy the cheap crap which is like smoking rolled up toilet paper, used rolled up toilet paper

On par with Canada, I might add.

Mine came last week and I’ve happily been applying it to near everything. While I’m partial to the Original, the little 'en prefers the Hickory. We both agree though that the best thing to put it on is your palm.

Er, for eating, right?

Family and I were discussing our new bounty and dreaming of tomorrow’s breakfast of eggs and bacon salt. One of my children whistfully remarked that it was too bad there wasn’t egg salt, so then we could only eat salt for breakfast. I think he’s on to something.

I don’t recall if anyone has yet reported on this, but Bacon Salt chili is truly a wonder. Mrs. HTB made a huge batch, so we will be enjoying the same for some time. She also shared some with her 85-year-old mother, thus turning on another generation to Bacon Salty goodness.

 Well, then, does 3 packs of Silk Cuts for a 3 pack of Bacon Salt sound like a fair trade?

That got a chuckle from me.
Has anyone seen Lot’s wife?

Oh Rapture! My Bacon Salt just arrived!

I test-tasted each flavor by shaking a bit on my palm; the pepper is a bit spicy by itself but I think it would do quite nicely with cooking. Then I went out on my porch, plucked a ripe tomato, and ate it with alternating shakes of each flavor. Definitely an improvement over plain salt. Now I’m thinking about how well it would go with scallops or shrimp, having recently seen a recipe for bacon-wrapped shrimp which cautioned about seeing that the bacon was properly crisped without overcooking the shrimp.

I ordered on Saturday, they were on my doorstep Monday. Not sure how this feat was achieved.

At the risk of bringing down the wrath of the heavens on my head…I wasn’t very impressed by Bacon Salt Original on (admittedly microwave) popcorn; it gave it a sort of smokey flavor, but I’d hardly describe it as “bacony.” Even the smell seems more “smoke” than “bacon.”

That said, it’s a very pleasant flavor. I’m thinking this will work better on moist foods, but haven’t had a chance to try it yet: I haven’t had a meal at home in a few days. I don’t like cornbread at the best of times, but mashed potatoes and vegetables seem obvious candidates.

The hickory flavor absolutely rocks! I thought the pepper flavor was sorta burnt tasting, and the original was kinda meh. The hickory smells like BACON! I tried it on some tomatoes as soon as I opened the box. My dad likes the original best. Hubby will taste test when he gets home.

I’ve sprinkled it on some chicken legs and wings, and they’re going on the grill in a few minutes.

Yay for bacon salt!

Bacon Salt arrived at my front door the day before yesterday. Tomorrow I am going to boggette’s house and taking steaks and bacon salt with me.

I anticipate much yummage.

I’ve already opened the bottles. The scent is wonderfully drool-inducing.

Day before yesterday and you haven’t tried it yet? Obviously not one of the faithful.

I have yet to receive mine.

StG

Received mine today. Opened the bottle and smelled it. It smells like bacon bits, not like bacon at all. What a disappointment. I can get bacon bits at the grocery.

But have you tasted it? (More importantly, have you tasted the Peppered or Hickory varieties?) It’s the taste that truly seperates Bacon Salt from the bits.

Okay, I finally opened this stupid thread. I’ve also ordered my bacon salt now (and gone to the kitchen for a salty snack). They apparently charge the same for shipping to Canada as shipping in the U.S., which basically made me decide to buy it!!! (We’ll see if UPS cod’s me at the door, though).

Eagerly anticipating bacon-flavoured everything. I love bacon, and rarely have it.

How DARE you! I’ve never been so insulted in all my life! You’re off my holiday card list!

Aww, you sure know how to work your way back into a guy’s heart.

Papa Tiger has been thoroughly converted to bacon salty goodness. He took one jar to work after the day he realized that there would be no point in getting a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch without bacon salt to put on it. And we’ve been sampling it on just about everything. It’s excellent on veggies, as has been pointed out, and it’s also wonderful on cheesy garlic bread. He’s now busy converting all his coworkers to the bacony goodness!

Sorry - I meant that in a Homer Simpson way - you know, a “I don’t want to be in your stupid club for jerks” kind of way. Hmm, that doesn’t sound any better.

Whew! Crisis averted.
