"24" Day 5 - Speculations about the clock

Sometime last year, there was a “24” thread where I mentioned that I could only remember one time (when Chappelle was executed) that the show went to a commercial break showing the clock but without hearing the normal sound associated with it – very sombering. A few of you were quick to point out other occasions when the show had done this, however.

So I figured I’d be curious to hear your speculations, serious or otherwise, about what event may occur this season to bring about another silent transition to commercial.

Does Edgar turn out to the real mole? Does Jack wake up to discovery he’s slept with Chloe? What are your thoughts?

I think it’ll be all silent when FLOTUS dies. Pres WussyFace will over-emote llike mad when that crazy bitch kicks off.

The sound was there, you just couldn’t hear it over millions of people clapping.

Perhaps when Kim tells Jack she is pregnant.
Definitely when Jack tells the boyfriend Kim is pregnant.

Wasn’t the clock also silent after George Mason heroically sacrificed his life in season 2 (or perhaps when he sadly left CTU for the last time, on his way home to die, but before he popped up again to sacrifice himself in Jack’s place)?

Someone mentioned that in the prior thread, which I haven’t linked to only because it’s a four-page thread where that was only a small part of the discussion.

Someone else said that clock was also silent after Jack’s wife was killed.

Seems like the silent clock isn’t used for anything short of death.
If Jack wakes up with Chloe the morning after, I think we’d hear harps and an angelic choir. And when Chloe woke up, she’d be relaxed for the first time in her life. Sex with Jack would probably be the only thing intense enough to take the edge off.

I’m trying to be very spoiler-friendly here for S5, so don’t correct any “mistakes” I may have made.

They reserve it for the things that would get under the audience’s skin the most- Teri dying, Palmer dying (which is what we all assumed with the handshake of doom), Jack having to personally execute someone he respected, after desperately trying to get out of it. I mean, if Michelle dying doesn’t get a silent clock, the First Lady dying sure as hell isn’t.

If Chloe, Kim, Tony, Michelle, or Jack go out dramatically, we’ll get a silent clock, or if Jack has to kill Lynn (or maybe Buchanan). Maybe Novak, too, despite what he did to Lynn Kresge.

SPOILERS, you big dummy!
I’m watching Season 2 for the first time on A&E, you worm!

Chloe wake up, hell. Jack is tough enough to chew his arm off.
