This thread brought to you, as in days of yore, by the 24 Club.
Made a slight change to the format of the link archives. Also, last week, I appear to have mis-stated the episode number in the subject of the thread. I think I’ve got it straight this time. As I’m not watching the show, I am at the mercy of TVGuide online to tell me the hours for the episode, so I hope that’s right, also.
This season is really great. On what other show would the US president be blown up by a drone in the middle of Wembley Stadium?
But how on earth did he not get a silent countdown? Frickin’ EDGAR got one back in season whatever-season-Edgar-was-on.
They’ve heavily foreshadowed the drone pilot taking over (possibly killing Margot), so we have 4 more hours of Jack and his Angels chasing drones, though I’m curious as to how the whole CIA turncoat factors into the overall plot.
POTUS is a dangerous job in the 24-verse.
David Palmer - assassinated by sniper (beginning season 5, after his term)
John Keeler - Air Force 1 shot down and Keeler critically injured, never returned, presumed dead
Charles Logan - resigned after pleading guilty to obstructing justice, attempted suicide (after his term), main antagonist for 3 seasons, presumably alive but brain-dead
Hal Gardner* - took over for Logan after Logan’s arrest, presumably lost re-election
Wayne Palmer - suspected cerebral hemmorage, coma, dies between seasons
Noah Daniels - took over for W. Palmer, pardoned Logan, presumably lost re-election
Allison Taylor - son commits suicide, sends daughter to prison and is divorced by husband, resigns in disgrace
James Heller - first sitting President to be killed on-screen (supposedly Fox would not allow that previously, which is why Keeler wasn’t outright killed), assassinated by drone strike
Even if someone handed me the presidency in the 24-verse, I would decline. It isn’t worth it.
*I’m guessing that the writer who named him is a Green Lantern fan (Hal Jordan / Guy Gardner)
Whoa! Didn’t Heller resign first, after arranging for his VP to take over? So technically, he was no longer a sitting president, just a private citizen.
I guess that makes it okay to have him blown up by terrorists…
That interpretation works for me. Maybe the Fox ban is still active. Either way, the Wembley groundskeepers will be quite busy tomorrow morning. Hope they stockpiled the sod.
Don’t forget the other random buildings and vehicles blown up on the streets of London. That explosion in Wembley seemed awfully big to me. Did they have explosives buried under the pitch?
I thought that when Jack Bauer and the president were helicoptering into Wembley, he should have looked over to the helicopter James Bond and the Queen flew in to kick off the 2012 Olympics James Bond and The Queen London 2012 Performance - YouTube
CTU spontaneouly burst into existence whenever you combine Jack, Chloe and a decent internet connection. And yeah, the show’s mantra for the many disasters is has long been “it could have been worse.” We’ll see them saying that about a zombie-infested dystopia eventually.
