What is an MMP?

I think I need a edumacation. What the hell is an “MMP” thread?

I saw this thread (A Maine Vacation MMP …) in MPSIMS and, being a Mainer, I thought I’d post in it. But checking back, I can’t tell what the hell the thread is supposed to be about. It seems like message-board-cum-instant-messenger deal.

What am I missing?

From the SDMB Glossary:

So more like a message-board-cum-Live-Journal sort of thing, I guess.

Thanks.

If memory serves, the original writer of MMPs was Rue DeDay, one of our more delightful personalities ever. He’d talk about something different each week, people got quite used to just being able to come in and talk about whatever crossed their minds and then when Rue took a lengthy absence the tradition continued, this time with different posters contributing each week but with the same ‘chatful’ premise. It’s just mindless fun and it’s partly driven I suspect just out of missin’ ol’ Rue. He was a keeper.

Yes, it’s pretty much a stream of consciouness thread. We’re a warm, welcoming bunch of folks. We support each other through good and bad times; but mainly we just chat.

It’s kind of like heading down to your neighborhood tavern to chat with a regular group of buddies. The only difference being that we talk about food…A LOT…and share the recipes. That being said, we’ll talk about anything under the sun, and do!

A lot of people stop by to post things that aren’t quite enough to merit their own thread. There are quite a few regulars, but also a large number who only stop by occasionally. And, yes, we still miss Rue.

[spooky Maine accent]It’s a whole boatload of trouble. Best advised to keep away[/sMa]

I kid. It’s like a long conversation over coffee. With nicknames. Did I mention the nicknames??

And here I thought it was a thousand military police, (or two thousand police).

**Rue **used to be a stay-at-home dad, that’s when he used to do the MMP. He went back to work after the kids started school IIRC.

Actually, they just plain talk A LOT! I enjoy it when I can keep up, but the thread moves VERY quickly and it’s usually up to something like 5 pages before I even get to it. I haven’t been in much lately.

As in, never perhaps? :dubious:
