SoCal Dopefest in September
Man, it's been awhile, hasn't it?
It's summer, we're all busy (hopefully), but we can make this happen! At some point. And all you Ventura County people should stop hiding and come. Don't make me hunt you down. |

How south is south? I'd bet many bowls of posole that anyone further south than me <in Cali> is in Mexico.

I got a bit jaded by the process last time i tried to come to one of these. It seemed to me that a few SoCal Dopefest regulars ended up making the decision about the date, even though there were, in the initial voting, more replies for a different date. It felt like a few people were more keen to see each other than to have as many people as possible attend. That's fine; it's understandable that people who know one another would want to get together again. But i decided that i couldn't be bothered weighing in if a few regulars were just going to make the decision on their own anyway. |

Okay, how about Saturday the 3rd, at Islands in Glendale?
Not that I think anyone will go for that exactly, but now we have something to work from. And I flove Islands, especially now that they have unlimited fries. |

No problem with the 3rd (so far, but that could change for me)
No problem with Glendale. The only issue is Islands. All the Islands I have been to have been set up with booths seating 4-6 people. This is not ideal for a dopefest. So unless we take over the bar area we might want to consider a different restaurant. If you want polynesian how about Damon's? A Glendale institution. A bit upscale compared to Islands. If you want to go a bit further east how about Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Pasadena?

What I meant to say is that it would be too hard to arrange dates around my schedule since I have many last-minute things that crop up unexpectedly. I wouldn't want people to choose a date to accommodate me and then I would have to cancel the day before anyway. Right now I would be available for Saturday 3 September Restaurant: Damon's Steak House Location: Google Maps What time? |

Good question. Is this a lunch or a dinner? Personally, I'd prefer a lunch, so people won't have to rush off afterwards. Some or all of us could cruise the Americana!

I like the idea of Glendale, but am not sure about how I can get there since I don't drive and mostly use public transportation. 9/3 sounds OK, though, unless my folks arrange some unavoidable family event, as they seem to every time I want to go out lately.

Short notice, but I'll throw this out there:
Would anybody be interested in meeting in Frazier Park next weekend (the 20th or 21st)? There's a RenFaire that desperately needs customers. It's a great location, entry is cheap, we can camp in front of the ale booth, and the band alone is worth the fee. |

No can do.
Too much already on my plate this weekend. Anyway Fraiser Park is about 20 minutes by telephone ( or a three day ride on a good horse) from most of of So Cal. :-)

Sorry, I couldn't go all the way to Frazier Park this week-end either. I've never even heard of it! Is Frazier Park a nice place to visit in and of itself?

If it's a restaurant-type meeting, we discuss weighty matters of vital importance, gossip about other SDMB members, and do general party chitchat.
To find the other Dopers, you look for someone you recognize, or if it's your first time, you look for a large group or ask the hostess for the Cecil Adams party (or whatever name was put on the reservation). If all else fail, you wander around asking people if they've ever tried placenta stew. The people that will answer you without vomiting are the SDMB group. |

Just look for the hippest group in the room.

So what about all the rest of the So Cal dopers? A bunch of the regulars have not made an appearance in this thread.
Or is this going to be a very small dopefest?

I am fairly flexible, and not about to argue with the Roscoe's suggestion (I didn't bring it up first, for once).
Generally speaking, weekend early afternoons work best for me. |

I am notoriously bad at getting out of Ventura County on the weekends (or during the week, for that matter) but if there is ever a get together a little closer by, I'll be happy to come. I haven't been to a Dopefest in a long time, and certainly never one on the west coast!

Glendale is all that far from Ventura, particularly when you compare it to the locations in Orange County.
Come on down, and meet with us. |

I did drive to Glendale from Simi just to get a banker's lamp, so I guess I can't argue with you there. Let me see what my schedule looks like; for now I'll be a tentative yes.

I am indeed. I will definitely bear that in mind (I get lost anytime I try to venture south of the 101), but I just realized that the 3rd is Labor Day weekend, so I wouldn't be able to make that date. I'll keep an eye here though, I should be able to make another weekend.

If you do, I'll definitely be down, would be cool to get to know my "new" Dope-neighbors... after two years on the west coast!
