I could vote for many of these songs. I decided to be more selective however for 1996, one of the strongest years of the 1990’s.
I voted for Joan Osborne, Every but the Girl, Eric Clapton, Gin Blossoms, Celine Dion(hands down her best single), Hootie’s “Old Man and Me”(perhaps best Hootie song), Mariah Carey and Tracy Chapman. Only one Alanis song got my vote, and the choice for me was easy " Head Over Feet", which the underrated single from “Jagged Little Pill”. Her best song in my view.

Songs that could have gotten my vote but did not make the cut for regret or no regret were “Ironic” by Alanis, Collective Soul and Bodeans.

Time, Missing, The World I Know, and Give Me One Reason earn my votes.

I used to think You Learn was the worst song ever. I still believe it’s a horrible song, but now I think One of Us is even worse. One of Us therefore gets the dreaded dead-ass last designation in the world-famous** Ponch8 Music Rating System.**

Easy: Missing is one of the best songs of the 90s.

I wish I could have voted for Give Me One Reason because it’s an excellent song. In another year, I’d have picked it in a heartbeat. In 1996 however, it’s stuck between a clearly superior song (Missing) and a bunch of merely OK to frankly mediocre ones (all the others).
