$1,000 Cookie Jar?

My Grandmother gave me a cookie jar that was a favorite of mine when I was a child. It was given to her in the early 60’s at which time it was old already.

A relative in the antiques business was visiting recently and told me my cookie jar was worth over a $1000. My first thought was “B.S.!”…but then today I was looking around on the internet and sure enough, it’s a $1000 cookie jar…currently holding oreo’s. It’s a rare Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar by Hull. Not all of Hull’s LRRH’s are worth that much, but this specific pattern is more rare.

I’d never sell it because I like it…but who would pay $1000 for a cookie jar.

You ever watch Antiques Roadshow on PBS? It’s amazing what people will cough up for dusty old crap.

Nice, make sure you keep it in a safe place

The joys of “antiques”
My entire family collects memorabilia-Dad does cookie jars, Mom does McCoy, etc.
There is a rush over picking something up at a flea market or garage sale only to find it’s worth many many dollars.
The best he has done though was a McCoy cookie jar picked up at a garage sale for $5.00 worth over $500.00.
I have picked up glassware for two bits at a church garage sale, only to find them at an antique store for $15.00 each.

yeah, the wife’s parent’s gave us two box fulls of old dinner ware. It’s the 1950’s Starburst pattern…at vintage shops they sale for about 25-150 per piece depending on which piece it is.

Always remember…someone may say it’s worth such and such…but it ain’t worth squat unless you can find someone willing to pay such and such.

My mother collected cookie jars for awhile. Just stuff she’d pick up at garage sales mostly. The most she ever paid for one was $20 bucks at a local antiques shop that she just had to have.

After a bit, she got bored with it. She ended up selling the whole collection to another collector for alot more than what she paid for them all. She probably got ripped off value wise (some of them were quite old), but she made a profit off of a hobby for the first time and was thrilled.
