1st Annual SDMB Summer Book Exchange!!

I’m in! I have a lot of new and some older books kicking around that I wouldn’t mind parting with, sci-fi, fantasy, and historicals mostly, and even if I haven’t got a copy I can likely rustle up any specific requests you might have.

I’ll jump for joy if sent any in-depth bios of Wilfred Owen, but barring that, “cozy mysteries” are always welcome. I also read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, and in most cases would prefer used SF/F books over new. Anything largely about dragons or other mythical critters (even unicorns) is a good choice.

I do have a growing list of popular fantasy writers whose work I don’t enjoy, mainly LOTR and its relatives (Robert Jordan, George R. R. Martin, Terry Goodkind, Anne McCaffrey, etc) and anything aimed at a young adult or teenage audience.

Ack! Missed the edit window to add that I can ship internationally. Where is my head today?

Do we take into consideration what others want, or just send a book we really like and see what they think? We should really use the thread to post our mini-reviews of what we got. It’d be cool.

You could probably do it either way, but I was envisioning it as taking into consideration what the other person wants. If they love historical fiction and list some books they like than you go and find a historical fiction book that they didn’t list and send it to them.

What’ll really be interesting is to see if someone says they like a genre, list some examples, and then gets a book they already have.

I’ve got books! But I can always use something new.

My big weakness is old cookbooks, maybe something from the 50s or 60s (or older), or (like Hockey Monkey) fund-raiser collections, preferably from somewhere other than Texas. Ethnic ones are good too. For that matter, bundles of clippings and hand-written or copied (purple ink, anyone?) shared recipes are fun.

Other than that, hard-boiled detectives (I have most of Hammett and Chandler, and have read most of Lawrence Block) or the “science-y type books” mentioned above. And then there’s British naval history and explorations. And lots of other stuff too.

I can ship anywhere there’s mail.

Ooo, rjk, even if we don’t get each other in the exchange let’s communicate. I adore old cookbooks, actually cookbooks of any kind. There’s one I can send you I’ll bet you don’t have but would love!

Oh, and I forgot to say: I’m happy to ship internationally as well. Oooh, books in the mail. Something to look forward to at last!

I’d be worried that I’d send a book someone already had. I got rid of most of my books, but have some that twickster would read --but what if she already read them?

And I sent Sir T-Cups a book for the Xmas exchange but I don’t even know if he liked it.

I’d probably have a panic attack before I bought anything or sent anything!

Oh, hell. I like mail. I’m in.

Request: Popular YA fiction to lend out to students (No HG or Twilight, please - but I have an AZ Wish List so you can get ideas). I’ll read them, too, and its really good, we can do Book Club in the Fall.

I LOVED your book!

Hell, half the reason I wanted to do this was because I’ve had good success with getting books from dopers…figured it would work all around

Took me this long to realize I haven’t put what I like on here:

I love murder mysteries. If it has a serial killer I’m in, if there’s blood and murder I’m in, if there is actual detecting and CSI: stuff, I’m in.

Favorite Authors: Boris Starling (my fave!) and his pseudonym Daniel Blake. There was a fun trilogy of books written by Anthony Zuiker (of CSI fame) that I liked too. But usually the more bloody and murder-y and serial killer-y the better.

I like fantasy, science fiction, and young adult books.

Sounds like fun. How should we list our books? Maybe use Librarything?

Just depends on how much of a gambler you are. If you want a specific book or if you have a list of books you want and want a doper to choose one from the list then go ahead and list that.

If you wanna be a bit more bold and just list a genre or two and maybe a favorite author and let your other doper use their best judgement then you can do that.

Up to you!

I realize it has been entirely too long since I’ve done an update so here is everyone I have so far:

Don’t forget me, grrlbrarian! I’m in too

I don’t count? :frowning:

Almost missed this thread - I’m in as well! I’m in Finland, so I’ll obviously ship internationally, and my books are in English so no worries there. Got mostly fantasy and scifi with some horror and military history mixed in, and I’m interested in more of the same, just of course something I haven’t read yet.
