1st Annual SDMB Summer Book Exchange!!

Yes it is, I said ten because I wasn’t counting myself.

I just checked the e-mail and I don’t see any e-mails from you guys, and I went off of that when I made the list. But no worries…just send it to sdmbbookexchange@gmail.com and you’ll be there!

Got your stuff Arrogance

I’m into this.

I tend toward really serious literary fiction, but I’m open to being surprised, as long as it’s really well-written. I care more about smarts and emotion than about plot.

OK, I’m in too! I hope I’m in time for this.

I live in the Netherlands, but I have huge amounts of books in English.

This thread is a great idea!

Missed the edit window! My favorite type of books relate to military history (of the “spy stories” type if possible), humor, science divulgation, sci-fi & fantasy… Well, I am rather eclectic!

I’m in! But I may have trouble sending the book until the end of the week, I’m on holiday til then. Is that OK?

I love history books, and entertaining nonfiction. I’m devouring regency and victorian biographies at the moment, but anything history will usually be good. Or just nonfiction with an interesting spin, although I prefer books that are focussed on people and places rather than movements or parties.

I also love fantasy and SF, and I’d love it if you would share a favorite author with me. Some good YA would also be appreciated (I devoured Hunger Games).

Or whatever you have that’s funny or insightful. Really, I’m not picky.

Man oh man the responses are just pouring in! I love it!

I’m so excited my little experiment is working!

Mahaloth!!! Grrlbrarian!! I’m still missing your info…mail me!

Done.

If possible, might be easier if you’d try to arrange it so that us EU Dopers get each other as exchange partners as much as possible, for lower postal expenses and less potential hassle with customs. I have tons of extra stamps I get from work so I don’t really mind paying extra for longer distance mailing, but not everybody is that lucky.

I sent my info.

Any news?

Sorry sorry everyone!

Between my mom visiting me this weekend and a crazy day at work yesterday I’m running behind…I will have it done by this afternoon!

I am done!

I picked names out of a hat (well Cherry Pepsi container and Wal-Mart Bag…) and got everyone paired up. I have sent the e-mails out as well and now we are ready to go!

I swear to you all that I picked names blindly and randomly (for the most part) and I still had two sets of dopers sending their books to each other…crazy huh?

If anything is wrong, doesn’t work out, or if you didn’t get an e-mail from me you can either post it here or e-mail the address and I’ll fix it ASAP.

Happy shopping everyone!

Yay! Looks like my person will be good if I just cherry-pick out a couple of things from the “take to the used book store to sell back” pile.

Hope to mail sometime this week, but I’m not going to overpromise.

I got my person! I think I know what I’ll send too, but I won’t promise anything til Friday at the earliest - I’m literally a 2 hour journey away from the nearest post office right now.

A book is on the way to my person!

Edited to add: I have an Amazon wishlist under my real name that I designated a few books with SDMB in the comments in case my person has any trouble.

I have my email as well. I will send off my book soon.

Anybody else copy & pasting the address they got into Google Earth to see where the book will be going to?

I got the email and will review the thread to see what my poster wants/needs/likes. And I could throw in a couple other surprises as well.

I sent a book already as well, with no less than 16 Christmas stamps (because I get those from work for free every year) - the post office clerk was impressed. No idea how long it’ll take for the book to hop over the Pond, though.
