Got the mail. Now to review the recipient’s post and see what to send.
Got the email today, now to figure out what to send…
Sent off the book today. Please don’t be offended, but it isn’t new. I wandered over to my bookshelves, consulted the list of likes for my person, and popped the novel that called to me right in a Priority Mail envelope. It should arrive Friday!
Me XD. Google Earth doesn’t know where I am though. Comes up 15 miles off the mark when I enter my own address.
(We’re at Lat. 44°27’6.83"N, Long. 91° 8’42.13"W if you’re looking)
I won’t be able to mail until the weekend, sorry to my recipient. The book(s) will be in good shape but may not be new.
goes take a new look

I kinda figured that would be the point, getting rid of a book that’s taking up space and making somebody happy in one go? Mine’s used as well, though in as good as new -condition basically. Unless it gets battered up on the way to its destination, of course.
Just went through the stack of stuff waiting to be taken to the used book store to be sold back, and found a couple of possibilities. These have been read but are in excellent shape.
Turns out I’m going to be in the neighborhood of a post office later today, so will be mailing sooner than I thought. I’ll put an “SDMB” above the return address so you know why some random unknown person is mailing you something.
I’m buying mine and sending mine tonight.
Also I totally handpicked my person because I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to buy…perks of hosting this thing hehe
Oh, and while we’re on the subject of mailing books: I’ve got a perfectly good oversized paperback of Laurie R. King’s The Beekeeper’s Apprentice going begging if anyone wants it. Only been read once, and I’d be happy to mail it to you. It’s in my Goodwill pile, and I figured if anyone here wants it, I’d rather send it to him / her. Just post if you’d like to claim it!
Decisions, decisions!
I ended up going to the used-book store and finding a couple from my list of favourites (I couldn’t send my own copies, now could I?).
So there’s more than one in the package, and it’s all up to USPS now.
Right after waking up from a hot-summer-afternoon nap, the UPS guy came by. “Huh,” I thought confusedly, looking at the return address of the package he dropped off, “Las Vegas? Who or what is in Las Vegas?”
Then I realized it was from Amazon.
Then I couldn’t remember if I had any pending orders with Amazon – nope, I don’t think so.
And they don’t ship to me from Las Vegas anyway.
So I opened it, to find For Want of a Nail: If Burgoyne Had Won at Saratoga.
“Huh,” I thought. “I’ve heard that’s good.”
Then I looked at the packing slip – it was from Hockey Monkey, who’d apparently seen it on my Amazon wish list with an “sdmb” on the memo line.
Thank you so much! I look forward to reading this, and will let you know what I think.
And whoever got Hockey Monkey – make sure you get him something good, he deserves it!
I hope you enjoy it! How awesome to wake up from a nap to get a goodie you weren’t expecting! (BTW, I’m a girl. :))
(Yeah, that’s what I thought – but the name of the person who placed the order looks decisively male.)
They came today, 4 books, I hit the jackpot! Thank you!
The first one I’m going to read is Erik Larson’s “Thunderstruck” about Marconi, I think it’s on my (private) Amazon wishlist.
Next up will be Tim Power’s “The Anubis Gates”, it looks really good.
Then I’ll read “Poisedon’s Steed”, the book about seahorses, I have a friend who I know will want to read it when I’m done.
It know I’m going to learn something new when I read Mark Changizi’s “Harnessed” about the evolution of language and music. (no, I’m not a creationist, I’m a Pastafarian)
and yes, I got your note. Thank you Twicks!
I haven’t mailed mine yet, but I will on Monday.
Boy, that was fast – I just mailed them the day before yesterday, and sent media mail [cheap]. I figured you’d get them next week sometime.
How cool that I sent something that was on your wish list, which I didn’t think to look at.
The Anubis Gate, BTW, was originally a Doper recommendation (from multiple people, I don’t recall who offhand).
Enjoy!
Oh yeah, that’s my husband. I use his card.
I’m just a couple of hours away, down the NJ Turnpike. I had the extra delight of my really cute mailman handing it to me personally since I was out mowing the lawn.
Mine’s going out Monday!
I would do it today but it’s Sunday for one, and I’m currently awaiting my first even tropical storm to hit…so I’m excited for that
Just sent mine now. You’re getting a good one!
Sorry for the delay, I will be mailing my book(s) to my recipient tomorrow, Tuesday. I had two copies of one book I wanted to send, and both were in poor condition(long story) so I sent away for a clean copy of the book.
I haven’t forgotten, honest!
And Sir T-Cups, the book sent to me should, in all likelihood, arrive, check your email.
