1st Annual SDMB Summer Book Exchange!!

Thanks, Septima, for the books! They arrived today!

I am going to enjoy them enormously, I am sure  THANKS!

Could people please specify which books they received? Some of us are getting a lot of vicarious pleasure out of this.

Thank you,** Jimmy Chitwood**, for the lovely books! I squealed with delight over Flann O’Brien. I’d read At Swim-Two-Birds a few years ago with enjoyment, but I hadn’t gotten round to throwing his other stuff in my TBR pile, so I was awfully glad to get The Third Policeman. Redemption Street by Reed Farrel Coleman looks very promising too! Muchas gracias, senor!

From Septima I received Terry Pratchett’s “Snuff” and a book about Norwegian WWII Resistance hero Gunnar Sønsterby. Excellent choices both!!

Squee! Happy you liked them. I was really unsure about Pratchett, since dopers usually have all his books in triplicate, but figured the newest one was worth a gamble. And if you didn’t have it, it’s a pretty safe bet for people who like sic-fi/fantasy.

I was reasonably sure “nr. 24” would be new to you, and it’s a good read. Closest I could get to “spy stories” without going for something generic you probably had already, if this is a special interest to you.

Glad you received it. I hope you like it.

I still have 6 peeps who haven’t checked in yet.

No huge hurry, just reminding you if you forgot to say your thanks’s

Nothing in my mailbox yet, but mail to here generally takes a while. No panic.

I guess I should be getting mine next week, maybe. Books don’t swim well.

Just got back from out of town, and WOW! Congodwarf really came through! Got two awesome books on forensics (one is FULL of pictures), and a book on the history of University of Connecticut ( I think that one will be my favorite!).

Thank you so much!

I’m so glad you like them!

You’re very welcome. That is awesome. I love Flann O’Brien so much. Hopefully it bodes well that you’ve already enjoyed At Swim-Two-Birds (and I think it does); it seems like I don’t meet many people who have read any of his stuff.

I’m a total deadbeat and haven’t reported this yet, but Grrlbrarian sent me Palace Walk, which I’ve almost finished before I’ve even acknowledged it. I’m not sure I’d ever even heard of it. The tone is incredible. And the first of a trilogy! It’s a gift that keeps on giving. Thank you.

Oh, wow. Just today, I told my spouse, “You know, I really need to read up on the history of the tsars, there is some good stuff there.”

And then the books from JoséB turned up, and what did I get? Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie. How perfect is that!? I adore royal biographies, thank you, thank you!

I also got* The greatest stories never told: 100 tales from history to astonish, bewilder and stupefy*, which is just the sort of think I love.

Off to read!

(You know, I suspected we had each other. Don’t know why, just did)

You guys are basically neighbors over there, I figured it was probably easiest for everyone if ya’ll just had each other

I didn’t expect that Septima would have me as a correspondent, but when I received her books, right after I had sent mine to her, I was like “whoa!” XD

I didn’t mention anything here before I knew that she had got my books safely because I didn’t want to spoil anything

BTW, JoseB, you have really pretty handwriting. I’m almost ashamed I showed you mine.

I finally, finally sent mine out last week. I took me foreeeever to decide what to send.

I still haven’t recieved anything yet! Oi!

Oh cool! I’ll have to make some post office stops this week then. This is especially fun because I just spend 80 bucks on books at BAM and now I have sooooo many books to read.

(kinda obvious I know you have me so…you know…not a huge surprise)

Just got the books TubaDiva sent me - they seem to have made the long journey in perfect shape. Great timing too, I was just about to finish the last book in my backlog and was wondering what to read next. Not to mention I was just reading about the D-Day earlier this summer and now I got “Is Paris Burning?” that will go in better detail about events the previous book only mentioned in passing. “King Solomon’s Mines” looks interesting as well. About time for me to read more travel books.

Thanks!

So yesterday I finally receive a package from feppytweed. AWESOME!

I open it up, and it contains a single large book, with a blank cover. MORE AWESOME! I’m thinking, “This is going to be the best piece of sci-fi I’ve never heard of!” But wait, then I check the spine, and the answer is even better than that…

Hold on to your pants, SDMB…

Wilfred Owen: A New Biography! I’m 40 pages in and riveted. MOST AWESOME and well worth the wait.

Hey T-Cups, did you get 'em yet?
