Has anyone seen the Joan Rivers Geico commercial? She looks absolutely plastic. But the way she’s making fun of herself scares me. This once proud woman now has to resort to making money off of her botched facejobs. The part where she pokes herself in the face because she can’t feel it is very sad.
Then there’s the new Bud Light lime commercials. I’ve seen two of them. In one, a lime with legs does a very extended break dance routine “battling” against an accomplished breakdancer. The other one features the same lime-guy doing a skateboarding routine. I found both of them scary and weird.
Joan’s Geico gig is one of my favorites, behind only Bacharach’s I hope I never get hit in the rear again. Bwhaahaa… that one still makes me laugh.
Joan’s schtick has always been to point fingers and laugh at Holywood excesses and I admire the fact she can now do the same thing about herself. She nails the line, the feigned horror, everything.
To me, Robert Wagner pitching reverse mortgages is sadly pathetic. Joan’s just being a sport, proving she’s willing to take what she dishes out. I kinda like that.
No no, the new scary commercial is for Burger King where a robot King is bringing future man breakfast in bed and pissing coffee out of his finger, and then future woman says “he’s so good with his hands” so that we the audience are unavoidably implanted with the mental image of her being finger blasted by the robot King.
Not quite as disgusting as Pizza Hut’s Fudgems, but close.
What is with the DSL and ice cream Dating Game parody commercials running at the same freaking time? I don’t know whether to go on line or eat ice cream, so I do both?
I’m a big fan of the GEICO “celebrity” commercials, particularly the Charo and Little Richard ones. But I’m absolutely appalled by this one, albeit for a different reason.
All the other ones deal with your run-of-the-mill accidents and other unfortunate things that can happen to your car. Now, maybe I’m being a bit hyper-sensitive here,
but it seems just a tad inappropriate to crack a joke after someone has just said that his father was carjacked at knifepoint ! I think the ad agency pushed the envelope a little too far on this one.
How about the new Burger King commercial where an asshole REAR ENDS a couple who are taking an extra three seconds at the drive-in window to get extra ketchup?
This is supposed to make me want to patronize this place how?
Yep, I was going to mention this one myself. There are many commercials I hate, but few that actually piss me off. This ad is one of the latter. I fail to see how demonstrating the way your product apparently turns people into raving, selfish assholes could possibly be considered as a good selling point.
