I think I am addicted to carbs, or sugar or something. Back when I was rowing properly I would eat at least 2000 calories worth of pasta a day. I have been on a diet for two days, fruit and veg and brown rice etc, and I am having the weirdest cravings, today I bought cookies, and I don’t even particularly like cookies. I threw them away when I got home but now I want them again. Bah.
Dear newcrasher,
We officially hate you.
People are probably tired of me saying it, but try http://www.amazon.com/Potatoes-Seven-Step-Stabilize-Cravings-Recognize/dp/0684850141/sr=1-1/qid=1159834822/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-4071462-4793634?ie=UTF8&s=books it helped me with my cravings.
I ordered it. The cookies are calling out to me from the bin.
Yay all of us (even those that are just thinking about it)!!!
At least Mrs. Cake need not fear me - I don’t hve much of a sweet tooth most of the time. I’m more likely to get a craving for cheese or chicken. So chicken of exeter… beware.
I’m very interested in hearing more from Ceejaytee about being hypothyroid & what your dietician says. I have an appointment this month with an endocrinologist because I have an enlarged thyroid but fairly normal blood tests for TSH and PSH. I do have elevated levels of anti-thyroid antibodies, but don’t know yet what that will mean.
So, it’s Monday and already the meal plan has gone to crap. Today I had off for Yom Kippur so I went to lunch at Sonsie with ex-coworkers and decided I wouldn’t be on plan, because I really wanted the roast sweet potato pizza with spiced pecans. And it was gooood, but it topped off a weekend of not caring what I ate, so I feel like crap.
And why did I not care what I ate this weekend? Because a friend had a party Saturday night where I ate too little and drank too much (3 beers and 3 glasses of wine) so I was mildly hungover on Sunday. And what does hangover mean? Bacon! And ramen. And Doritos. Sigh. Will I never break all these habits I have leftover from my slim college days?
The only good thing about today is that when I decided to pig out late this afternoon it was on sushi.
I put a hold on Potatoes not Prozac at the library. They’ll let me know when it’s in and I’ll give it a looksee.
I feel sick as a dog!! I was away from Thursday night to Monday night and it seems I did nothing but eat. Now my stomach is churning, wind pains which are killing me (had to go to the chemist to get tablets) and just feel like crap. Serves me right for eating chocolate and pizza and fish and chips and all that sort of crap. I really can’t eat badly anymore - I eat so well during the rest of the time that my one blowout every few months are hurting more and more. Really, I need to be healthy all the time, I can’t bear feeling this ill! I did go to the gym this morning and sweated my butt off… I really enjoyed it and thank god I’m eating better again. No more bad stuff, it really is TOO bad!
Happy Post: Back down to 201. Yeah!!!
Now I have to keep it through the post season run and I want to ensure I am under 200 with a margin by Thanksgivings when I will put 5 back on.

Gotta love those anti-thyroid antibodies. I have them too. I’ve got Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which in turn has made me hypothyroid. The link has some info; your endocrinologist can tell you more. The thing about Hashimoto’s/hypothyroid is that it’s not fun, but it’s something that can be treated. Could be worse, I figure. If you are diagnosed, they’ll start you out on a dosage and you’ll have periodic checks to make sure it’s the right dose. Every once in a while my thyroid decides to sputter to life again and it messes everything up and I have to have monthly blood tests. Other people I know who are hypothyroid (most of my family, actually) can get away with only getting tested once or twice a year. Good luck with your appointment. I sincerely hope you get a good endocrinologist. They’re not as easy to find as one might think.
I’ve got Hashimoto’s as well. I recently had a radical med adjustment to my highest Synthroid dosage ever. My thyroid’s apparently taking some kind of vacation. I hope it’s having a good time.
The dietician at my endo’s office stressed exercise for the hypothyroid issue, rather than diet, to keep up my metabolism. 1 day of exercise (20 - 60 min) for every decade of your life, just to keep stable, and more to lose weight. 20 min was the absolute minimum time, 30 - 45 was recommended. For me, that’s 4 days just to keep stable, so I’m aiming for 5. (My husband asked what you do when you’re 80. Get up at midnight?)
A good endo is definitely important. I usually get tested 2 - 3 times a year. In fact, I go in on Friday.
What Exit? 201 = yay!
yellowval - thanks for the info. weirdly, my husband already has Hashimoto’s - was diagnosed a few years ago.
Ceejaytee - 80 year olds don’t always sleep that much anyway - so they have time to exercise!
I want points for virtue. I showed up for my noon Pilates class, no one else showed, and instead of saying, “Oh, what the hell, I guess I’ll just skip a workout today,” I hauled my butt over to the weight room and went through most of the Pilates routine on my own!
I think that should be worth at least an extra half pound on the scale, just for having made the effort, don’t you? (I weigh in tomorrow.)
Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow owieeeee!
I did cycling class today. First time. About 45 minutes, and I worked up a good sweat. However, the seat on that bike was very narrow and tres uncomfortable. How can I put this politely? I don’t think I can…
I feel sore and tender on the inside of my butt cheeks!!
I’m not sure I can do that again. I don’t think I have the butt to squeeze into bicycle shorts at this time. Any suggestions?
Mrs. Cake, don’t fret. We just got a giggle over seeing someone with that particular user name posting to a weight loss thread. We love irony here. In fact, given the chance, we’d eat it straight out of the bag.
Ivylass, you get used to it, trust me! The day after I took my first spinning class, my whole lower body hurt, including the ones in the spoiler tag. You don’t need special bike shorts, just keep doing it. It won’t hurt anymore after a few times.
I love spinning, and it’s a fantastic workout.

Frecka**, are you doing Weight Watchers? Because you do get extra points for exercising! If you’re going to meetings, I think they talk about that in the third week.
For anyone who’s interested, I’ve started an album of progress pictures at http://www.picturetrail.com/norinew
About damned time, Norine (EW).
I earned 6.5 activity points at the gym tonight. I’m stinky.
Wow! You are doing great! You look so healthy in your latest pic, and I know you must feel a lot better! You are an inspiration!!
I know, I know. I can smell you from here.
Indeed I do. Now, if I could just kick this damned kidney infection, I’d be feeling really great!
Yes, I’m very glad for the activity points (25.5 last week). But I want virtue points for things like drinking water and passing up all the wonderful hors d’oeuvres at a meeting/cocktail party last night!
NO VIRTUE POINTS! If there were, I’d have a frickin’ halo.
