2010 NFC North Discussion Thread

Hopefully Stafford rubs some dirt on it. Eli had the same injury during the Giants Superbowl season (second degree separated throwing shoulder) and didn’t miss a single start. It was comical watching ESPN backpedal from Chris Mortensen’s report that he’d miss a month.

I think the crappy management and player personnel decisions had more to do with the failures those places than Martz. Good thing the Bears don’t have that problem…um, wait.

So does the Ryan Grant loss clear the way for the better player? Who is now the #2 in CheeseLand? Is that guy any good?

Brandon Jackson. A second round pick a few years ago. He has always had potential, but never really wowed anyone in preseason/mop up duty. Before the injury, Jackson playec the 3rd down role and by most accounts is very good at pass protection and getting into the flat. He’s had a couple of nice runs in the preseason and last week, but we’re not sure how well he’ll adjust to being “the guy”. I think he’ll be servicable, but not as slashing as Grant. He’s a better pass catcher though, so I figure there will be more screens, throws in the flat, on first and second downs.

Behind Jackson is … gulp. John Kuhn, currently a FB, took snaps in preseason and last week, as a HB, and does OK. He hits the hole quickly and is good in short yardage situations, but has little to no ability to break off a huge run, make people miss, or put a move on anyone, which is what the HB in the Packers’ offense needs to do.

They signed Dimitri Nance off of the Falcons’ practice squad. Seems like he’s never lived up to his potential, but is a good downhill runner. He’s a rookie with no real NFL experience.

What happened to Ahman Green? Didn’t they have him back on their roster just last year? Did they cut him again already?

They cut him last year, he wasn’t in training camp. He’s back home now and was, last I heard, talking about joining a UFL team.

He’s old, slow, and would be worthless except for his experience in the Packers’ system. I don’t want him back, he won’t add anything much more than Kuhn. I’d rather have Tyrell Sutton or Kregg Lumpkin, who were on the Packers’ roster before cutdowns, but they were both scooped up by other teams (Panthers and Bucs).

I don’t think they re-signed him after last season.

He’s with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL at the moment. The UFL signed him after he lobbied on an Nebraska radio show to be picked up by the Omaha team (as Omaha is his hometown):

In other news, apparently the Vikings are making a move to obtain Vincent Jackson.

Also, the players association and the NFL have agreed to a settlement where VJ can play in the fifth game.

Interesting…

Here’s an interesting story about how the Packers failure to get Randy Moss might have been the reason Favre left, Adrew Brandt ex-Packers VP:

Just in time for the Jets game. One of my best friends is a Jets fan, and man would I love for us to beat them.

What? Favre a petulant prima donna? You don’t say…

He got tired of a bush league franchise not being willing to give him what he needed after he carried them on his back for 17 years.

He went 13-3 and into OT in the NFC Championship Game with the team they gave him, sans Randy Moss.

Obviously the team needed improving to put them over the top.

He did that by carrying them on his back like Superman.

You do realize how that NFC Championship game turned out, don’t you? Favre throwing 2 picks, including one on the second play of overtime, giving the Giants their game winning field goal? I would expect someone who has suffered the same problems with Favres’ performances in the NFC Championship game themselves just last year would have more sympathy. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, but back when he was with the Packers he was throwing those playoff games on purpose because he hated being a Packer so much. /actual conspiracy theory

Neither team would’ve been in the game without him, so that’s why we give him a pass. By your logic, maybe this year we should let him get us to the NFC championship game and then play …<lmao>…Tarvaris Jackson.

Oh, my…I almost said that with a straight face.

The fact is that the Packers had a plan in place that would be more than just accomplishment of short-term goals and Favre was thinking more short-term, for obvious reasons. These things in and of themselves are reasonable and perfectly legitimate reasons for a separation.

Well, Favre and the Vikes have the same short-term goal, so it’s a solid fit. What we’ll do next year at QB is anyone’s guess.
