2010 NFC North Discussion Thread

heh…heh…yeah…hang on to that. Look for the bears in the playoffs this year, but don’t hold your breath waiting for Cutler to choke.

I LOVE how ESPN obsesses on “The Packers have had two QB’s since 1993, and the Bears have had 20”

Fine, but since the merger FORTY YEARS ago, the Bears and the Packers are each 1-1 in Super Bowls.

The Bears last trip? 2006

The Packers? Oh dear…1997.

Now you need a team around him that can play within the rules.

Leave it to a Bears fan to suffer from premature celebration. I had no idea 3 consecutive victories was such a monumental achievement. Win the NFC North first. See if you can do that.

For your edification, Favre’s career TD/INT is better than Cutler’s, and it’s not even close. Cutler will not be allowed to play long enough to come close to breaking ANY of Favre’s records. Favre’s stats and record with the Vikings still make Cutler’s with the Bears cry in its furry pillow at night.

Your recent success is commendable, but you haven’t won jack yet.

Let me put it in terms a Bear’s fan should be able to understand: 3 straight wins to start the season is kinda like starting a bowling game with a Turkey, only less impressive.

Wow the Packers laid an egg last night. Countless penalties, not so great coaching, dropped interceptions, crappy special teams play, a complete abandonment of the running game, and an ill timed fumble made it a long night for us Packer fans. They shouldn’t be giving away games like that.

Oh man, how butthurt are you? What’s the matter, did Clay Matthews gouge your eyes this morning?

That fumble was forced. It was taken away, not given away. I’ve seen a lot of talk about how the “Packers beat themselves,” etc., but the Bears flat out beat them on several key plays. Hester’s TD return, Julius Peppers’ blocked FG, the stripped fumble on the sidelines – that was Bears making plays, not the Packers giving anything away. Even a lot of the holds and false starts were caused by Green Bay’s O-line being overwhelmed by the pass rush (especially Peppers, who terrorized their backfield all night).

Cutler was inept for much of the night, but he made enough plays to win, and the Bears beat the Packers on special teams and on defense. Credit should be given where it’s due.

The team I wanted to win last night won. A swing and a whiff from the SnarkMaster.

A bears fans calling all bears fans stupid?

Or just hate the packers?

unwashed brain is a Vikings fan.

Yep, since about 1989. I think the Packers are the best team in our division this year, so I rooted for the Bears to upset them.

I think this is a fair assessment of the game. I am a firm believer that the better team wins (like the Saints in the NFC Championship game). Going into Soldier Field and losing on a last seond field goal when the Bears did play particularly well and the Packers not so much is not a disaster by any stretch.

It’s not a disaster, of course. But the Packers beat themselves with the killer penalties, poor coaching decisions, and poor special teams play. Don’t get me wrong, the Bears played well, but the Packers lost that game by their own actions/inactions. The Packers put up 379 yards total offense on the Bears. They got 3 sacks, a fair number of hurries and hits on Cutler, and got one and should have had 4 interceptions. They held Forte to less than 3 ypc. It certainly wasn’t a dominating performace by any stretch, but they played well enough and should have won, but for their own stupid mistakes. Kudos to the Bears for winning the game, but the Packers have no one to blame but themselves.

And my god Clifton and Tauscher looked horrid again. It’s like watching them age right before my eyes.

The Lions plans have worked perfectly. They threw the first 3 games to lull the opposition into thinking they are really bad. Then ,when the time is right, they will strike. All hail the new bosses, the Detroit Lions.

They could beat the Packers next week. It’s not out of the question. Their record doesn’t show it (and they got jobbed in that Bears game), but these aren’t the same Lions as usual, especially on defense. Julius Peppers wreaked havoc on the Green Bay offensive line, and I don’t see any reason why the House of Spears can’t do the same thing. If Shaun Hill can establish a rhythm and Megatron and Jahvid Best have good games, the Lions could win. Everything would have to go right for the Lions, and I’m not predicting it, exactly, but I don’t think it’s out of the question. The Packers have some weaknesses there to exploit.

If the Kitties can really get up for the game and take it, I think that would be huge for their morale and could really lift them for this season and next. What better place to end their road losing streak than at Lambeau?

How exactly did Detroit get “jobbed” in the Bears game? That rule has been in effect since 2000, and it’s hurt the Bears (once against Detroit in 2004) as much as any team. Why is it suddenly some kind of tragedy when it HELPED the Bears?
Detroit was given a TD right before halftime that they didn’t earn. They were holding all day and seldom got called. How is that “jobbed”?

I blame the way the rule is written, not the call, but by all rights that was a touchdown catch by Calvin Johnson.

You’re a little defensive as a bears fan, by the way. Ease up. I wasn’t trying to trash the Bears, and I gave them credit for catually making significant plays last night.

I’m a Vikings fan, so we may not see eye to eye on much, but can we at least agree that we both hate the Packers?

I know you have to defend your team, but wow.

There you go DTC… you should forward that to Don Banks, and Mike Florio. It was a good win for the Bears last night. Any sensible Bears fan knows that the Pack have a better team than us on paper… but last night several elements got together and the game was won. It seems that the Bears being a surprise 3-0 have pissed some people and the predictions off…
