The Raiders are shopping Darren McFadden. I was really high on him coming out of college, and I think Cable and Davis are complete morons, so I’d be sorely tempted to take a shot at getting him cheap.
I just thought you’d like some more speculation and rumor.
I hear from one place Bryan Bulaga might fall to the 49ers at 13. Then, at another place, they say the 49ers have visited Dez Bryant three times in their draft scouting (combine, pro-day, and HQ visit), and would pick him (or anyone else) based on ability, not need.
He’d be an excellent fit for the Packers considering their need for athleticism and explosiveness at RB. He’d be an even better fit in Chicago. Jerry Angelo should send Al Davis a bag of chips and a lottery ticket and see if the guy can come be a toy for Martz.
Hey, if they deal McFadden, then maybe they will take Spiller at #8. Tim Kawakami says they’re eying LB McClain, which would be a shocker: McClain’s damn good!
If you completely disregard positional scarcity, marginal value and team needs, where would you rank Sam Bradford on your Big Board of prospects? Who’s your #1?
I wonder what would happen if the Raiders offered their 1st round pick, maybe another pick and JaMarcus Russell for Big Ben. Most people seem to think that a 1st rounder isn’t enough by itself to trade Big Ben even though they probably really want to move him. I’m not sure many teams would give 2 1st rounders for him ala the Jay Cutler deal considering the 6 game suspension, giant contract and off field issues. A few analysts are saying that Russell’s biggest problem is coaching and that if he gets a second chance with a better organization he might still have a chance. This last part is the most suspect, but you have to wonder if the Steelers might give it a shot. They could go with Dixon this year to see what he’s got and see what happens and try and coach up Russell.
Maybe the Raiders ship off their 1st rounder, Asomugha and Russell…though that’s a lot of salary for the Steelers to get back. Hmm…
I have Bradford at #5. People really think he’s the real deal, although he will have to transition from a college spread offense.
I have Suh as #1 and Eric Berry as #2, Gerald McCoy at #3.
I have a spreadsheet with rankings of about 100 prospects at 15 different big boards. There is remarkable agreement about the top 4. Almost everybody has Suh at #1, but the standard deviation of the next three are all just over one, although Okung has dropped recently. After that, it’s every board for itself. Bradford is listed anywhere from 2 to 31, and a few prognosticators have Clausen rated higher, including Mel Kiper, Jr.
In the Mock Draft I had them taking back-to-back OTs and then shipping their 3rd rounder for Jason Campbell. I think they’d make a giant leap if they did this, I might favor them over the Dolphins in the division even.
Incidentally, I’m really bummed out that I have to work tonight and won’t be able to thread-chat during the 1st round. Gah! This new 3 day draft sucks!
My wife’s pet peeve is people watching the TV and being on the computer at the same time. Will there be a live stream of ESPN’s coverage, or a feed of the NFL Network at least (a feed that’s not idiots talking when they should be showing the [del]game[/del] draft)?
NFL Network will be streaming it live online. There will sadly be a lot of idiots talking and they’ll assuredly spend 2/3rds of the time talking about Favre, Roethlisberger, McNabb, LT, Haynesworth, Marshall and T.O. and maybe 1/3rd talking about actual rookies.
Is it going to be the same feed as their actual tv network, or some special online-only feed like they do for Thursday night games? I actually think their coverage is pretty decent - better than ESPN anyway.
Because of the money paid at the top of the draft, to me you really have to go low-risk with your top-10 picks. Moreover, QBs especially have the issue of fan expectations to deal with, and the pressure to perform immediately. Fionally, drafting a bust QB has long-term consequences much greater than any other position.
All of the QBs in this draft have significant enough marks against them that I wouldn’t take any of them before pick #15 at the absolute lowest, and then only if I had a good QB situation where they could sit for a couple of years. (Not that I’m saying they all suck. I think all of them could be quality starters IF they get in the right situation).
I don’t have a huge list of guys I have strong feelings about, except to say that:
Jason Pierre-Paul will have about as many sacks in his NFL career as he had in his one USF season. George Selvie will have a better NFL career.
I’m a little shocked that I’m saying this, but I think I really like Tebow as a QB. The way he has turned his zealous personality to improving his play makes me think he’ll never give up, never get lazy, and never accept defeat. This is the attitude I see in a lot of smaller guys who are determined to make it, but Tebow is freaking huge.
In the unlikely event the 49ers draft him, I’ll be walking around the next three days with my chin scraping the floor and nursing a bruised tailbone from falling out of my chair, but I’ll also be rather excited about it, too. (It’d certainly make the country take notice of my team.)
I don’t know where Tebow is getting drafted - I think 20 to 40th is most likely - but I predict that whenever his name is called, I’ll think of the “Shut the fuck up” story and start laughing to myself.
Speaking of which. Here is a big board of instant sound effects. You can use them for when certain teams are up, or just picked, such as “Yackety Sak” when the Raiders are on the clock, or “Bazinga” when the Patriots make their selection.
“Sad Tuba” or “Ha Ha” when another team makes a stupid pick. “Noooooooo!” when your own team makes a stupid pick. “It’s a Trap” when a dangerously intriguing player is available to a desperate team.
And, of course, the Final Fantasy victory music (bottom right hand corner) when your team makes the pick you want.
My wife will be out at dinner with her mom during much of the 1st Round, so I’ll be online and watching the TV. Shhhhhhhhhh! Don’t tell.
