2012 - A New Year MMP

GT, I just got new glasses too! I like mine! The frames are kinda old fashioned, (think mid eighties) but they are also me. Where do you get yours?

Bub and I have just been hanging out most of the morning. He’s doing better today. He was very enthusiastic about his breakfast (a good sign) and appears to only just have a tinge of nausea here and there.

We tried taking a nap, but the texts kept coming in and then the mailman showed up with two big boxes of silverware  and all bets were off! I’ve already sorted through one box and am getting ready to go through the next one.

It is Friday! Whoohoo! I made it through 4 whole days of work! I am so proud of me!

I also lost 2 lbs this week - well since Tuesday - when I started Weightwatchers again. 18 more to go for my next mini-target of 20 off by my birthday.

Plans this weekend…reclaim the house from the mess that has taken over from before Christmas, buy a smoker with mr ems as he has plans for the pork butt and the turkey we have in the freezer, look for a new couch and dining table, go to the movies, grill steaks, make my super delish beef stew in the slow cooker on Sunday oh and make martinis tonight. Fun filled weekend right there!

Right back to my pivot tables in excel!

So much for the lack of stalking, Mooooooom. I was in line at Wally*World behind** FCDau**… :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s Firday, I’m not at work, so it’s time for my nap.

Guess who fell asleep and woke up VERY disoriented? It’s weird when your own house doesn’t look familiar.

Back from running about. FCD’s phone has web - all the nice lady did was pull the battery out and put it back in - kinda like the Samsung version of CTRL-ALT-DEL  Then we ran by WalMart and picked up some storage boxes I’d ordered, followed by a stop at BestBuy where I got a shiny new $20 dumb phone - exactly what I wanted! And it works good, so yay!

Then we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch and I was not impressed. I’m not a fan of wings, so I got a salad. It was OK, and I was given ranch instead of Bleu Cheese, which did not impress me. It’s a LOUD venue. I doubt I’ll go back willingly.

**BBBobbio **- did you speak to her?? “I’m watching you…”

Actually, I waved at her enthusiastically, then mumbled something about now being able to pick on you some more.

Yanno, for being a stalker, I ain’t doing so well if I run into the wrong person.

I think my hair is also bipolar. In the last several months I have gone from my natural brown to brown with highlights to bleach blonde and now I’m back to brown again. (All of the above is, of course, with purple.) At least I got my blonde phase over with quickly. It really, really didn’t suit me well at all.

Looking forward to a road trip tomorrow, not sure I’ll make it as far as ruble’s town, but one never knows… I’ll be sure to wave as I go by if I do.

I’ve finished setting up my new phone - very happy that there’s a ring tone that an actual ring! I hate songs used as rings - they irritate me, perhaps irrationally, but there you go. For $20, it’s lots nicer than the phone it replaces. Supposedly, it has web functions, but I don’t have a plan for that, so I need to figure out if I can disable it, just in case. As if it’ll ever come out of my purse… :stuck_out_tongue: At the very least, it’s nice to have a phone that has a decent battery!

Mom, my ringtone is Scotland the Brave on the bagpipes.

Swampy, tell your gouty co-worker to load up on naproxen sodium (aleve), it helps a little. And if he hasn’t seen his doctor yet, he should. Gout attacks can do permanent damage to the joints. I know this. Also, he could ask his doc about a drug named colchicine. I’ve never tried it but one of my cousins swears by it. (My whole family has gout.) It is indeed a very painful affliction, and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. (almost).

Skimmity-skim-skim.

I see OKRA mentioned. I must say I am not impressed by this slimy stuff.

My husband says it’s good down South and he also told me to tell **Swampy **that he’s the proud owner of Paula Deen’s Southern Cooking Bible and has cooked several recipes from it. Please, please, please don’t let him attempt okra.

I can no longer look at the Straight Dope at work. Probably because it contains the word “dope”.

My son left to head back across the state for school again. I talked to him just a little bit ago, and he was just outside of Pullman, WA. Pullman is where university is located.

Bumba he did leave at noon sayin’ he was goin’ to his doc for a steroid shot. I’m sure he takes some kind of medication for gout cause it’s an ogoin’ thing with him. At least he sees a doc.

Taters check out the recipe blog for grilled okra. I just know you’d like grilled okra. It’s wondrous crunchy goodness. My recipe for fried okra, also in the blog, is okra nirvanna! I can do anything Paula Deen can do. Better even. Take that Paula Deen! :stuck_out_tongue:

Home from the Epiphany partay. A good time was had by all. Many nummy munchies. A particularly nummy thing was spiced up saltine crackers. I shall pester the bringer for the recipe until it is mine. Very good and very spicy. Definitely lots of red pepper involved. Also cheese puff pastries with olives in the center. Oh My! OOOH and one that involved creamed cheese, sour cream, pimento, artichoke and onion. DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG! Folks at my church can put on a spread!

Now I shall go beddy bye. OYKW is already abed and probably snorin’ away. He was tahrd and so is da bear.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

I have no doubt you can outdo ol’ Paula Deen, Swampy. I however, am thrilled that my husband has taken an interest in cooking and even more thrilled that he’s cooking at least once or twice a week for me now.

A co-irker is back today. He has gout. It looks painful as no doubt it is painful.
[/QUOTE]

On the traditional one to ten pain scale, a gout attack is about a 17.

Fortunately, there are a couple specific meds for it that usually work nicely.

The last two pork roasts are in the slow cookers for pulled pork. I cooked two last night and was up before 4:00 am shredding the meat. I then put all that meat in the fridge.

Tomorrow, I’ll get up and shred all the meat I’ve cooked overnight, and will combine it with the last night’s meat. Just before we go, I’ll heat it up a little, put it in a big electric roaster pan, and cart that to our friends’ house. 24 pounds of meat. I don’t think we’ll run out.

They plan on serving pulled pork sandwiches, and will have assorted other party platters. I’ve got to remember to get some Sweet Baby Rays on the way over there, or sometime before we leave tomorrow.

I prepare my pulled pork more North Carolina style; with apple cider vinegar, dry mustard, ketchup, brown sugar, Worsty sauce, and various seasoning. I cheated this time and used a sweet smoky rub for the seasonings.

I also rubbed the meat with the rub seasonings and seared it before putting it in the slow cookers with onions.

I am tired. This is going to be a busy weekend. Friend’s 50th birthday party tomorrow, and Sunday we’re meeting my daughter and her boyfriend for dinner up north of us so we can celebrate my daughter’s birthday.

I need to poke my doctor’s office about some PT and/or massage. My neck muscles are seriously twisted tonight, and I think the ultram and flexeril are finally trying to get the upper hand, so to speak.

Got a fairly staggering non-bill from the hospital. They sent me a single page saying “this is not a bill” and that they’ve submitted charges of more that $56,000 to the insurance company  that’s just for being at the hospital for less than seven hours, and I haven’t gotten anything from the anaesthesiologist or the surgeon yet. Out of idle curiosity, I’ve asked the for a detailed statement just to see how it adds up to more than eight thou an hour.

Ketchup? That heretic sauce!

Got to go the the hockey game with my “just friend”:), Canes won. I have to work for a bit today, but I might get to see her again tonight.

I prepare my pulled pork by going to Sam’s club or GFS and buying it. Ok, sometimes I make it from scratch but those times are pretty rare. Everybody raves about it either way and for the price, buying is usually the way to go for me. And if I want to get extra fancy, they sell it without sauce at GFS so I can make up my own. But, yeah, I usually use Sweet Baby Rays, too.

Well, I’m up and ready to go on my road trip an hour before I need to leave the house. This is a good thing now. Although later I might regret it since I didn’t get to bed until late last night and didn’t get much sleep. And then there’s that whole no caffeine thing…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 Amurrkin out and foggy. Today’s high will be around 73. Not too bad!

Taters I lurve Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce. My other favorite is Cattleman’s. It comes in both tomato and mustard base. YUM! When I do pulled pork, I use <snerk> Boston Butts <snerk>, just a rub (Bad Tony’s <snerk> Butt Rub <snerk>) and hickory chips for the smoke. I then finish ‘em up in the oven or slow cooker. I don’t sauce up the meat whilst it is cookin’ cause some folks prefer just the plain meat while others love to slather on the sauce themselves I’ve found. Anywho, your pulled poke sounds teh num and I’m sure folks will line up for miles just to have at it.

We got spammed! YAY US!!!

Have fun on your road trip StickyBuns!

gotti yikes! Good for you for requestin’ a detailed bill. I’ll bet there’s stuff on there that can be disputed. Hope the healin’ continues to be good. How’s DH doin’ with his post op?

I need more caffiene and should consider brekkie. I’m thinkin’ ham ‘n cheese omelettes, grits and toast. That should awaken the snorin’ beast in the bed room.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Errg, I stayed up all night, but not 'cause I wanted to. I was going to go to Mal Mart but I sat down and fell asleep. I’m an old lady asleep on the couch!

Okra is good if you cook it right! Cook it wrong and you have slime. So if someone is serving slime they’re ghostbusters or don’t know what they’re doin’.

Like Thedadelle. She knew what she was doin’ when she cooked up a mess of okra for Mr. Gonzalez’s passin’. Who knew… well you know… The dish she brought was lovely. Green beans, okra and Velveeta with bacon and Ripples crumbles on top. The trick is to fry the okra first, she says and I do believe! Unlike Mr. Gonzalez it seems!

Dear og; why is this woman on my tv wearing a headband? Headbands are never a fashion Do. No! Never! Also; no white socks with black pants. It’s just not done. All you men look down and adjust. NOT THAT WAY!
