2012 College Football Week 6

As an Irish fan, I was pretty worried going into last night. Miami had been putting up a ton of points and ND, to put it mildly, had not. Watching them put together consecutive TD drives with zero pass attempts was a thing of beauty. Golson was sharp when he did throw it and the defense showed up after looking a bit sluggish early on.

Can you guys tell me why they even bother with Rees?

Wish I could tell you. He started because Golson got in trouble (probably a curfew violation), and he’s an easy fill-in to run a 2-minute drill (see: Purdue) when Golson gets in trouble, simply because he has a lot of experience with Kelly. He’s one of the few guys that Kelly seems to have patience with, despite being prone to making really impressive lapses in judgment (see: Michigan 2011, off-campus housing 2012). And I think because of those mistakes, Rees knows that his role is permanently stuck in “emergency backup” mode while Golson gains experience - so there’s no drama.

Well, Rees hasn’t thrown a pick yet this year. The one thing you can say about him is he keeps his confidence, even if he has made a few mistakes. If you saw Golson in the Michigan game, his confidence was shot. He had the deer in headlights look. Glad to see he bounced back so well, though.

Assuming Kelly wants to keep the reshirt on Kiel, Rees is the next best alternative. Hendrix is still very raw and also prone to big mistakes. He’ll be a career 3rd stringer.

Well, I sure don’t appreciate ND getting my hopes up with that 3-and-out to start the game. And I literally jumped out of my chair when I saw Dorsett wide open on the first play bomb, and dropped to the ground with my head in my hands when he dropped it. The scene was similar 3 or 4 plays later. Saturday just wasn’t my night.
